Is the Rottweiler the Right breed for you?

Wow you really picked pictures of them where they don't look intimidating at all lol. I've always thought they looked kinda scary and I've had an American Pitbull Terrier until recently (Heartworm) and just btw he was among the sweetest dogs I've had. I'll probably just end up with another pit.

Sorry for your loss. I think that both APBTs and Rottweilers have undeserved bad reputation. I guess the Rottweilers tend to be little bit more protective and territorial, but we have a Rottie in family and it is absolutely playful and affectionate dog.

@@Rocadog Thank you. I wouldn't discriminate against a dog period..but something about rotties just look intimidating along with German Shepherds. But I know how that goes..I heard for years how bad pit bulls were and I got one anyway and I don't regret it at all. So I believe you about Rotties being great dogs.

Cherry eye, Epilepsy, Hip dysplasia, and Panosteitis Are Problems in Rottweilers. My Rottweiler has Leg pain and I can’t get my boy out from laying down.

Sounds more like horrible breeding.. I dont know what country u are from, but i know people who buy rottweilers from serbia and some other places in eastern europe tends to get rottweilers and other breeds with alot of issues. Here in scandinavia that isnt a big problem and it shouldnt be. Hip dysplasia can be prevented to a certain degree, when the rottweiler is young(puppy), dont let it run up and down steep stairs etc. It means alot when it gets older.

We have a Female Rottweiler, that had Idiopathic Epilepsy When she was Young And That’s a Problem in Rottweilers.

If I needed a personal protection dog, the Rottie would be my choice. Sadly they have short lives.

We currently have 8 years old Rottweiler in family and he is still very active and kinda "puppy like", but yes, the lifespan is very short..
