After a rocky PTB and an even rockier live release, DBD is in a really bad spot. It's a sad mixture of technical issues, exploits and lots of people ready to be hostile or quit the game immediately at the earliest sign of inconvenience. Let's hope the upcoming anniversary helps to mend our broken heart.

Back in F13, they had something called the salt mines. it was plain simple- if you disconnect, you gain salt points. the more you disconnect, the more salt points you gain per disconnect. and what was the penalty for having salt points? no ban, no timer, nothing like that. simply, youd get matched against people with the same amount of salt points as you, enough salt points landing you in the salt mines, where everyone dcs and nobody can play a full game. it seperated the people who actually wanted to play the game from those who didnt, it was beautiful. your salt points also decayed over time if you stopped disconnecting, with a buffer before they would begin decaying after you stop. it was perfect and i seriously think dbd would benefit from having salt mines, if you think its acceptable to disconnect so frequently then you can play with the other babies in the salt mines so the adults can play separately

I stopped playing DBD over a year ago. The game ended up being the one game that made me unreasonably mad. I hated how it made me act towards randoms or how people flamed me and my friends for simple mistakes or misunderstandings. Ive played many online games before but this one takes the cake for anger inducing moments. That on top of how stale it was overall for the gameplay loop. Otz youre the one thing thats kept me interested in the game because of youre positivity and genuine fun you have. Just dont burn yourself out brother!

Tbh it's just about one of the only things a single community member can do that will have any impact or notability whatsoever. BHVR can get away with anything at this point as they have a monopoly on asymmetrical horror as a whole. Nothing will fix this. BHVR can leave the game in a near unplayable state for a full week, leave paid characters disabled for months, and so on. But when I say BHVR, I don't blame the devs entirely, sometimes shit like this is due to outside influences like investors or owner companies demanding things. Seeing Otz leave would be an impact on the community, but ultimately it wouldn't impact the game itself. There'd just be a new most popular streamer and things would continue as is, while people miss Otz's DbD content. I just want to see Otz happy and not having to deal with the game being busted, infested with cheaters, or balance changes nobody asked for. DbD could be great but there's almost no pressure on the devs.

That unhooking themselves into bringing the killer to you when you waited for hatch as the game was pretty much a loss (2 teammates died 3rd one on hook) hit me personally. Happened to me the last time I played DbD which was before the update even happened, unhooked herself, brought the Legion straight to me and she got the hatch, saying in the end game that I was the reason we lost because I was on the other side of the map and let the others die, the Legion also backing them up despite seeing me and ignoring me because they lost the only chase they did with me I'm no God level, insane player, I'm like insanely average as you can get but I was the only who did a gen, and I did come over unhook, took a hit when I could while trying to pressure gens. I was also the only one of the match who won a chase, the players weren't the best which is fine, it was just 1 player who was spiteful and accusing me of being the reason we lost They were just so insanely spiteful, it's crazy. The community, especially on the survivors side are just so utterly petty (not to say Killers can't be), kind of sad and in glad I'm staying away from the game at the moment to save myself.

The most positive game experience I've had recently was my first time playing Billy yesterday. I'm a survivor main that decided to do my daily. Literally the first time loading Billy! I got a lobby with 3 shirtless David's and a Renato at higher prestige (knew I was gonna get rolled, but I wanted to try). It became very obvious I was a new Billy trying to use power. Instead of being toxic, the survivors actually waited on the last gen and let me target practice around loops and curves! I opened the door for them to leave when I thought they had helped me enough.. but the David's gave me the kill! All ggs and glnm in the chat after. Very wholesome

I was in a game where someone was an Ace named "Nod for Ass Smacks" or something like that. I was playing Nick so I spend 5 seconds meming with him, when suddenly 2 team mates disconnected aaaand it's a Skull Merchant. We look at her, she looks at the bot running away then us, then she starts nodding and I ended up double pipping that gaming. (Killer main normally, just hit gold I thanks to removing depips, not sure if I'll hit Iri 1 for the steam achievement or nah.) Most killers would've just killed us and we would've had to go next, but that person was cool at least.

I pretty much always play survivor because killer gives me too much anxiety, so I will always have a good base respect for killer players. The killers I have recently faced are out of this world, however. Nobody is playful or merciful, most that I encounter start to tunnel at 5 gens to get the first kill as quickly as possible, everybody is running the same 4 gen slowdown perks. They slug, they hit on hook, they proxy camp and all those shenanigans. It feels like I'm going against the same 12-year old kid every match I get. It's become so exhausting that I don't even wanna touch the game anymore right now.

I’ve noticed this trend at lower ranks since the Singularity DLC. People are treating this game less than a team game and more of a FFA. It’s only recently this trend is reaching higher ranks and bigger names in the community are finally realizing the issue with toxic players climbing the ranks because they take advantage of other survivors and killer’s indifference. Part of the issue is also because of SBMM matching up these bad survivors with actual good players.

Actually many other companies games (E.g Overwatch) has the exact same playerbase as the DBD playerbase. Stockholm Syndrome is a real one with this. Overwatch is genuinely not enjoyable anymore. And So is DBD but people insist that it is so much fun.

I had the weirdest game this week. I was in a duo SWF against the Unknown. At some point I see the rando Claud dropping her item in front of the killer and then getting downed, but didn't think much of it. Later in the match, my duo says Claud brought the killer to her and started pointing so the killer go my duo, who then started spectating. The Claud had Aftercare, and luckily I hadn't been healed or unhooked by her, so she couldn't see me, but she could see the rando Adam and took the killer to him too. Then it was just me, her and the killer. I started just hiding, with my duo guiding me on what she was doing. SHE STARTED LOOKING IN LOCKERS FOR ME! She went all over the map looking at the edges and entering lockers. Luckily my duo was spectating so I managed to stay hidden. Eventually even the killer got tired of her and made her work on the gens. She even looked for me before opening the gates. Thanks to my duo spectating and the killer being tired of Claud's bullshit, I managed to get away after she left. I've never seen an evil survivor go that far to work with the killer.

Came here for this comment. I don't see the reason streamers would black out a perk - if anyone is interested, it is the easiest thing in the world for them to look it up and use it. The only thing blacking out does is leave casual viewers very confused. Blacking out names is a different story; you definitely want to avoid sending trolls and harassment to people who just want to play the game (although leaving up names for exploiters/cheaters is fair game in my book).

I played a game where I just wanted to smack people, I didn't care if I 4k or 0k, just wanted to chase and smack. I even left a survivor hooked next to a 90% gen and went across the map to chase someone because I didn't care if it got done. Then at the end of the match they were calling me a baby killer, and if I needed tips on how to play the game, and why the scenario I mentioned above was not optimal. And when I do 4k like this, I get called a sweaty try hard, despite not even using my power. I like to win also every now and then just like anyone else, but people take it way to seriously. The projection that people put on other players is astonishing.

Last time they killswitched a killer, they lost player foot traffic. It was especially bad when they killswitched The Nurse for 3 weeks. And when they killswitched The Knight, he was unplayable for nearly 2 months. I get game development is difficult but how does fixing a bugged killer take over 3 weeks to 2 months to fix? Kill switching killers ensure that killer won’t be playable for a long while.

It's genuinely so sad to see the state of not just the game right now, but the players that play it. The worst part is there are so many good people out there actively avoiding maps/perks/skins that give them an edge for a good moral compass whilst others will literally abuse everything they can to get an edge no matter how scummy it is. I've noticed that on top of more people giving up early, the survivors I'm facing on average are just not as good as they used to be. It feels like nobody really learns how to run loops any more, they just run from pallet to pallet until they go down. Or they hide in a bush with Distortion, throwing the game for hatch. I'm no longer playing against people, I'm playing against their meta perks, basekit mechanics, and map RNG.

They've nerfed a ton of loops right after nerfing DH. A lot of survivor players were never turbo good just boosted just like how a lot of killers get screwed when they don't run slowdowns

I definitely see a lot of people whose MMR has been artificially inflated because they clearly use the same insane items/perks/map offerings every match. It happens on Killer too, we played against a poor 400h Nurse with an uber-meta build that lost super badly recently... The flaws of MMR I guess... 🙃🙃

This is very sad, this game had so much potential if the devs really cared about it. Used to love DBD but can't play it anymore without wanting to h0ok myself irl lol. I experience everything you talk about in this video a lot. Toxicity happens on both sides. Survivors betray their teammates or disconnect early, killers camp / tunnel / slug irrationally (like the game is already over but they're doing it to be vengeful). Camping, tunneling and slugging are not the same as a D.C. imo. Camping? Self unhook mechanic. Slugging? Unbreakable. Tunneling? @@ProWrestlingPsychology101 The self-unhook mechanic only works within a certain distance. I run unbreakable as a permanent part of my build but its useless if a killer picks up immediately. Even if you use sprint burst, borrowed time, decisive strike, it only prolongs the chase. If a killer really wants you out, they will stop at nothing. I've seen people take hits and have the killer ignore them just to tunnel one person out. Recently my first hook I got camped by a Knight. Stayed far enough away and put two guards down to make sure I wouldn't get rescued and kept coming back every couple of seconds. It wasn't even five minutes into the game. In fact they started chasing someone else and got a hit but just decided to come after me instead. I DC'd because I was going to die anyway. There's no point in staying in a game you know you're going to lose. Some survivors are dramatic but lets not forget that killers can be just as big of an AH as survivors can. Bigger even. If a killer is gonna play like an AH, there's nothing that will stop them, not even anti-tunnel perks. Because at that point they don't care about the game, they just want to kill you for their own satisfaction.

The amount of Survivor "teammates" that have purposefully gone out of their way to get others killed or otherwise selling out to the Killer has soured me on soloqueue permanently. It's not even Us vs. Them anymore, it's a complete FFA. I'd rescue, heal and finish the final generator with a teammate who proceeds to bodyblock the exit gate switch until I die. When I play Killer, I make sure to always punish the sandbaggers, but every single Killer I've faced while playing solo Survivor has taken advantage of it. I've started to just focus on my own fun. If I get sandbagged, camped or slugged I just give up immediately and stop playing for a while. My enjoyment has skyrocketed and I'm no longer burning out in repeat unfun games. I refuse to be their captive audience and if they get upset over me giving up then that's just a bonus. Who knew a game of cat and mouse gets boring if the mouse is already in a cage?

I partially blame the creators that made a whole identity out of "trololol the baby surv/killer" (you know who I'm talking about) for the toxic environment. At this point, BHVR needs to make DBD 2 so they can have a stable foundation to build on. They also need to give us an actual matchmaking system that doesn't encourage tunneling. Kills and escapes does not determine skill. We've gotten to a point where we've forgot we're supposed to be having fun.

I had a similar solo Q game yesterday against a legion, the other three survivors got downed pretty quick but I managed to get a single gen done as luckily the killer didn't happen to find me. we all died with 4 gens left, one of the survivors got super salty at me, calling me a rat, slurs, and other things solely because I didn't get hooked first. They also said they gave up because "I'm not playing that "slur" shit." The Legion didn't even have OP perks or anything, just played well. Said "gg go next" as what else can you do, but I agree the game has felt EXTRA toxic lately.

I had a trickster slug me on the ground and pretend to # me while I crawled away because I looped him for a long time. He watched me crawl all the way from one side of the map to the gates and then moried me half a second away from escape, he caught me because of NOED and trash talked me in the endgame chat. The match was an unbearable 45 minutes because he just throwed knives at people trying to open the gates which were pretty close together then then would return to me. Worst part is that he managed to get a 4k because people were trying to get me out instead of just leaving I'm also unimaginably tired of survivors just giving up on hook. I'm rank 1 iri as of today and I've never had to play swf before but it's becoming unbearable and necessary to even get work done past 3 gens, i've started befriending people who at least tried in game and play swf with them- I gotta ask if you'd be interested in q ing with me there seems to be a ton of people experiencing the same issue with teammates

I think the reason most ppl still play this game is because there’s no other game like it. At least that’s what it was for me. I love the idea for this game it’s so unique but since there is t really any other game to compare to it, I’d keep playing it. None of this is new. That’s how random survivor teammates act. This is a big part of why I keep commenting about how different of an experience we’re having at lower mmr. It’s awful down here partially because more often than not it’s a 3v1 instead of a 4v1, but also because a lot of us simply don’t have the skill to deal with camping and tunneling which will inevitably make the game a 3v1 even if no one kills themselves on first hook. For many months this game has been so hard to play. It’s so sad because I really love DbD.

I don't mind this as much. I'm at low MMR as well but I know my teammates aren't dying because they're toxic or the killers aren't tunneling because they want to ruin our fun, it's because they don't know how to play properly and that's their natural instinct to play. Survivors don't know where gens are (guilty myself when it's down to 2 gens) or they don't understand that looping exists. I tend to not get too upset because it's a skill thing and not a mentality thing.

It was not always a thing. At least not to degree it is now. Survivors giving up at the slightest inconvenience went into overdrive after the game became more killer sided in 6.1. Then it has gotten worse with every update that has buffed killers, nerfed maps, etc. I think a lot of people are just frustrated with the current balance of the game and don't want to deal with any inconvenience. The current game isn't really enjoyable for survivors unless you play in a SWF.

It didn't happen often, but there absolutely were situations now and then when a selfish survivor hooked first would kill themselves immediately on hook and ruin the game for everyone else, including the killer. All that changed is that people do it muuuch more often now.

One time I got unhooked in basement and when my feet touch the ground I literally couldn't move. Literally stuck in that spot until the killer came back to mercy kill me. It visually looked like rubber banding but I could only turn like 2 directions, and was just glued to one spot. Besides that though of course rubberbanding has been absolute hell for me, there's been a few instances where I would vault something and somehow wind up on the same side, and can't forget the one time me and my friend I was playing with both were unable to unhook our teammate on second and had to watch her perish. We probably looked like the biggest assholes in the world and I still feel so bad about it. Neither of us were getting the prompt :[ Edit: Oh yeah, not to mention, now I literally can't even play with my friends because they've disabled crossplay for switch til later in the week :')

In my eyes, the DBD community has devolved from trying to beat the killer to trying to torture everyone else in the server. I don't think I've ever seen a game with a fanbase that is so hellbent on destroying everyone else in the lobby above even trying to win. At some point, it feels like the goal from the game has gone from escaping to making sure nobody else has fun and I don't know why.

the lack of killswitching is such a huge problem for me. GoJ, Hawkins and *both* RPD versions should be killswitched. The infinite toolbox perk should have been killswitched. And yet here we are, only with one half of RPD being killswitched.

Your story from 4:00s in fit something that happened to me recently. Had a squad of players doing Background player, power struggle flip flop shenanigans and forcing me to down at pallets. At some point I downed all of them and had the person doing gens on hook. I debated just slugging for the 4 minutes since I got two out of their unbreakables and figured shits been annoying. Decided to have a good heart since it was my last game of the night, picked up, got stunned from a wiggle and they reset a bit. I STILL got 3 kills with the last leaving via hatch, and I was cordial cause it was dumb but kind of funny and the postgame chat was just the three of them being asses and acting like they won because one person got out from hatch. Like guys, I gave you a chance to play because I didn't want to end a stream on a 4 minute slugathon. Also had someone try the RPD east bug on me but they failed because Dredge can just tp away at worst and i think they effed it up a bit. but man this games been in a weird spot.

I started playing DBD in season 5 and played pretty much daily up to season 13, I reached a point where I burnt out and stopped playing, I just started playing again last month and although I’ve always seen toxic players, now there’s way more of them. I remember trying to get an archives mission where i had to open hatch with a key, and when I finally had the chance to do it, the killer grabbed my last teammate and let them go on purpose so they could take him to me, and they did, obviously the killer got us both after that. I understand when you’re feeling silly and you throw a pallet in front of your friend or body block them at the most chaotic moment just to be a little pest, I do that all the time with my friends and they do it to me as well, but when it comes to doing that stuff maliciously like that it takes a whole different meaning. Then again I’ve seen players behave like this ever since I started playing the game, so I truly can’t tell if it’s any worse now.

Apex has a similar problem, if players don’t like your landing spot they leave. If they get downed, they leave. If they didn’t get the kills they wanted they leave. I always quote that video title you made 3 years ago when I’m with friends, “You only lose when you give up”
