The previous owner of this very car just found this video and showed me. I can guarantee this car is 100% original , never been resprayed or messed about with . It belonged to my father in law and came from Bournemouth. We looked after that car and it had everything done that needed doing ...oil changes, sevices and belts and head gasket. Those alloys were on the car when he bought it 20 yrs ago. No expense spared and garaged all the time. Nice to see it still going....

I had a grey one on an N plate, turbo. Best car I have ever owned. Efficient, light, fast enough. I did Torquay to Cardiff in 1hour 20 mins :) (and got paid 45pence per mile )

had a 216gti twin cam hatch. It was a 1991 J reg in white. Went like stink and was such a great car. Bought it in 1994 and had it for five years

I miss mine! Brilliant car. I had one as a 19 year old with the 1.8 VVC engine. Wicked machine. Never knew the centre bit came out though! Missed out on that

I had two head gaskets go on a N reg, and when I sold it I think it went again, still loved it though 😍

Yeah do the intake manifold mod and fit a modified head gasket, and these were Uber reliable. It was people not doing it right and using inferior parts that’s caused multiple failures. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

I see a lot of Honda inspiration in this car.

Yes Honda was a massive part of rover in this era. A lot of these had the Honda engine and mainly all Honda running gear.

The Tomcat had the T-Series bonnet. The normal hatch and 400 saloon only had that bonnet if fitted with a T-series.

Thanks for watching What was the purpose of that raised bit on the bonnet, just seams an odd place for It?

@@CarAddictGarageNE it’s to clear the cam pulleys on the T-series engines. I think they look cool.

Just found the channel. i always wanted a Tomcat. Back in they day, the 2nd car I had was a 216gsi (with multi mods, bodykit etc, It was also manual with the honda engine :p). Though at 6ft 5, my head was basically in the sunroof:p As for the later K sereis engines, yep the uprated gasket was almost the same price as the terrible plastic standard Gasket. I do not even know why rover used the plastic gaskets. I mean at a push I could understand the early days, but once the problem was common knowledge you would think rover would have changed them, but hey ho, It meant I got quite a few cheap 200/zr'sfrom the auctions with knackered gaskets and easy to replace.

Thanks for watching and commenting mate 👍🏼 Yes the tomcat are a rare car now, even back in the day weren’t all that common. I just can’t understand once the issues with the K Series/ head gasket was discovered, why rover or even BMW didn’t sit down and sort it out….. would have been nice if BMW had done a few tweaks with the K Series. Cracking engine I won’t have a bad work said about them….. have to say never liked them in the 75/ZT/Freelander should have never been put in those bigger cars.

Man the rear of this car is the most unique design ever. It looks so fucking sexy😍😍😍. I'm not a fan of the front, if it was boxy like an E36, then this car would have been one of the best looking cars ever for me.

@@CarAddictGarageNE my brother had a 414SLi. Only had a head gasket because he had to have spark plug hole helicoiled. That was only cos some twat cross threaded a spark plug and it blew out! Head gasket never went. He ended up scrapping it merely because he couldn’t sell it, but in all honesty I reckon it could’ve done another 100000. It was a good solid car.

Never have many issues with spark plugs these days…. But when someone comes in asking for glow plugs, I’m all of a sudden fully booked lol, hate doing them far more hassle that you can charge for. look after a K Series and they are fantastic engines, just seam to have the big head gasket joke stick forever now.
