Luckily, I have the official component that I also run through the retrotink 5x, and if these cables are anything similar, I can attest that these two items (the cables and the 5x) are GORGEOUS together. If I didn't already have the official cables, I think these would be what I'd get.
@RoXolid2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, if you have the official cables you don't need to change to these.
@RobertPendell27 күн бұрын
I know this is a couple of years late. If you are using a RetroTink 5x through an Elgato capture device (or anything else for that matter) and it drops during resolution changes then try pulling up the settings in RetroTink and go to HDMI options. Set V-Sync to Triple Buffer. It adds a small amount of lag but the benefit is that now you won't get that drop. I got the component cables being reviewed here specifically so I could run it into the RetroTink.

Just picked up a set on Amazon. Very happy with them for $60. I'm running them into my OSSC. I compared these to my friends O.E. Nintendo cables he's had since he was a kid, and they're pretty close. The Retro-bit cables seem just a touch darker? If I hadn't compared side by side I wouldn't have noticed. I don't have an Insurrection set to compare to.

I would've picked a set up, but by the time preorders started, I'd already put the GCHD on my Christmas wish list, and I ended up getting it, as well as HD Retrovision Wii component cables and the RetroTINK 5X. Too little, too late for me to get my hands on those cables (except maybe for research).

I don't have the originals to compare to, and you see the results for yourself in these videos. Videos. I will say I didn't see anything that I thought looked off or that was visually unappealing, but that doesn't mean that it may not be as accurate as the originals. As I say, I have no experience with the original OEM Nintendo cables, I've never owned them. I think these do a pretty good job

I'd love to see a follow up showing side by side for the cables going straight to the TV, through the 5x, and finally comparing it to the prism going into your TV. It's hard to compete against the 5x.
@RoXolid2 жыл бұрын
No good way to capture going straight into the TV, this is why I showed the 240P and 480P Footage from the RetroTink 5x, which basically recreates this. And stay tuned....

I know I’m a few months late here, but how does the component cables compare to the Retro HDMI adapter? Is one better than another? Also curious, I see people talking about the Retrotink all the time. What does the Retrotink do on top of the component cables? I know you talked about it a little in the video but I’m still slightly confused. I just want to be able to play my GameCube and Wii games on my 4k tv without them being too jaggy.
@RoXolid2 жыл бұрын
You can go from the component video cables into something like a retro tink 5x which will actually give you a cleaner picture and better overall looks. But you're looking at almost a $400 solution to do that. For most people the HDMI dongles are going to be good enough, and they're really quite good
@kendunn51312 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. It's very informative. Can these cables be updated similarly to the Prism HDMI dongle?
@RoXolid2 жыл бұрын
No, there's no update process for these. I don't think you'll need to update as there's no upscaling going on here.

Also to record gameplay I use the same set up for 130 USD but I want to get these cables to connect to my gamecube kiosk CRT TV input through component cables and then output through the crt TV AV output to a Retrotink 2x mini to stream/record while playing in component crt TV. Hello! So my eyes are crossed after all the research I've done. Here's is my question. I'm mainly trying to play all my old star wars GameCube games. I have a 1080p HD tv ( it has HDMI and component inputs in back). Do I go with a prism HDMI adapter? If I go with the prism component cables will I still need a retrotink to improve image quality? If so is a retrotink 5x necessary or will a 2x do? I mainly want to get the visual quality I remember having on GameCube. Plugging it into an HD TV with an analog converter has made the image choppy and muddy and a complete mess. Any help appreciated thanks!

Hello, I've recently been playing around with my Gamecube graphics on multiple different TVs. The thing that I found that helped the most, was getting a TV from Goodwill thats max output was 720p resolution. I went from playing Gamecube on a 1080p tv to my new 720p and the graphics looked way better on the lower resolution tv. I only payed 8$ for the 720p at Goodwill, they are very easy to find. Everyone wants 4k TVs nowadays, so these older resolution TVs are easy to find for cheap! Hope this helps you
