The violinist is Lucy Wilkins who, from that fantastic solo, is clearly a very talented musician. It is of course also a Roxy Music concert and therefore compulsory for Bryan Ferry to surround himself with attractive women!

Since my very first time, years ago, of seeing Lucy Wilkins play the violin solo, I cried. Stunning. My ex was/is a huge Roxy Music fan, but Lucy totally stole my heart. Every friggin time I rewatch this I'm stunned and inspired and taken to who knows where.

Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert , 1974 The States first taste of “ Out of The Blue” live and we watched and said, “ These guys are way ahead of their time”. This became and always will be my favorite Roxy Music tune. Dance Away rates up there for me due to the incredible bass line. Listen to the bass isolated. This uptempo version of Out of the Blue is good because she replicates the essence of the violin solo on the album.

Back on the 70s we saw ROXY MUSIC in NYC cause we live here. I went home and told my mother BRYAN FERRY wore a red leather suit. She said it had to be too hot, so I rationalized and let it go. He wore a red leather suit. The tunes were slower and longer with no violins but the impact.

First saw Roxy Music at the Dunstable Queensway Hall 1972. With only their 1st album in their catalogue and the Virginia plain single, They supported a band called "Stone the crows" (Maggie Bell Etc). The ONLY support band I gave ever seen to do 5 encores. ( An omen for things to come). Glad to see most of the original line up many years later in this concert including the multi talented Lucy Wilkins.

My favorite Roxy Music song.Does need Jobson for that electrical violin effect imho. She does a pretty good job and she is hot as well.This song,Avalon,More Than This,Both Ends Burning,Virginia Plain,Mother of Pearl, and Love is the Drug are the ones I like most, although their catalog is extensive and great in its own right.Great band.

+weaseldragon.........this is live. One only has to watch Lucy throughout the video.....she's perfect, watch her body movements in the solo for heaven's sake, she's totally rocking it out! Ferry would NEVER allow such a thing in any case, he is the consummate performer. None of these particular musicians ever had the need to mime. I grew up with Roxy Music's wonderful sound and as much as I love the original members, a little credit where credit's due, surely. This is sheer perfection!

I saw Roxy perform this live in 1974 at the Rainbow in Fisbury Park. Over the years I have seen many of my favourite bands reform and play their catalogue and have left a bit disappointed as a bit of the spark had gone. This version, over 30 years later is vastly superior, and especially Lucy's violin solo. Like vintage wine, Roxy just get better and better.

This is the very version the entire planet should be privy too. The original studio version ends with an electric violin solo as THIS version does with extreme flair. That's where this song explodes with a frenzy. An instant classic, but hard to distinguish from all the others. Enjoy!

There's an interesting version of this played live by 801 where Manzanera plays a guitar solo in place of the violin. It doesn't have the soaring quality of the violin but it's pretty cool nonetheless. Check it out.
@LIZZIE-lizzie3 жыл бұрын
@ standingwave73 801 LIVE IS A STELLAR ALBUM, with a young SIMON PHILIPS, ENO, RAY MANZAREK. Although I listened to it endlessly, it was never given the public acclaim it deserved. The album cover has since been changed, but 801 LIVE remains one of those GOT TO HAVE albums. Even though it's YEARS LATER, 801 LIVE remains relatively unknown to the public. ENO has waltzed into the careers of countless artists, enhancing their careers and seamlessly waltzed out of those careers with future collaborations kept silent - if indeed there were future collaborations. He added much to the music of ROXY MUSIC including into their music the use of synthesizers, which was brand new in 1972. Personally, I prefer hearing these tunes from their beginnings. They were slower - when listening to these later performances the music sounds like it's being pushed or hurried. Totally unlike the original tracks and the original band members that performed them. Shoot, the cover to COUNTRY LIFE, was banned in the USA. So, you bought the banned cover version cause there was no choice. But one Christmas my younger brother got me the album with the original cover. I remember being so happy! One of the top three best presents, ever!

Ian Clark Their Live at the Apollo DVD from which this clip is taken is great from start to finish. This was about 15 years ago and Ferry has lost some range and resonance to his voice since then. This show was part of a reunion tour and their performance was on point!
@Sydwal15239 жыл бұрын
Brilliant - the whole DVD is excellent actually. And the dweeb down below who reckons Lucy Wilkins was miming the violin solo to Eddie Jobson's original needs to listen to it again. Utter nonsense. Saw them back in 1980 but this show over 20 years later saw them returning to their roots, which of course the true fans always wanted.

+heather lubman no way! you never saw them in the 1970's. He had this same style suit on, in red. I remember being home and telling my mom, he had this red leather suit on! LOLOL Gary Tibbs was the bass player. This tune was fuller and rounder, that really completed the sound + much longer play time. Eno did the violin, on the synthesizer. One "famous" show at the Bottom Line, NYC, Jeri Hall came out in a leopard suit, swinging the tail, legs up to her neck! She just walked on and walked off, but Ferry couldn't take his eyes off her. The Bottom Line is a small venue with tables, stage close to the floor.....I should say, "was.". XD Ferrys' tunes will always be classics! The violin solo is note to note, and sound for Enos' synthesized play.

Yes, the violinist is good, but listen to the 1974 version of the song, and you'll find that she replays nearly note for note Eddie Jobson's original solo. It could be argued that the solo--as played originally--is an integral part of the song... It makes me curious who actually decided how it should be played--her, or the band?
