I can't listen to Mid Air without crying. What a special man Paul Buchanan really is, and what a special band The Blue Nile are.

Paul Buchanan and Mark Hollis are the two musicians I admire most. They always put beauty and art above commercial gain.

I loved The Blue Nile's music from the very beginning of their success with 'A Walk Across The Rooftops' in 1985 when I was 17 years old. I'm going to be 50 in around 6 weeks and for the last few months I've barely listened to any other artists. Yesterday I bought their biography from Amazon and having watched a few short interviews with Paul Buchanan, I feel a deep sense of melancholy. He is such a genuinely lovely human being. I would love to meet him one day and tell him what his music has meant to me over my my lifetime. Thank you Paul for being exactly who you are: you are a precious gem of an artist and a man.

I passed Paul on Byres Road years ago. He saw me recognise him and must have seen the sheer awe and admiration in my expression. He gave me the warmest, kindest smile and probably thought this guy is definitely going to stop me and gush about the music. I didn't. For some reason I didn't. I'd never heard him speak at that point and had no idea what a genuine angel the man is. It's there in every song, of course, and it was there in his smile, but I second-guessed myself. I've had that conversation with Paul a thousand times since, in my head, pretty much every time I hear him sing. I tell him that his music has been a constant source of joy and inspiration in my life, the perfect soundtrack to everything I hold dear. I'm so grateful that a true artist has articulated the nuances of the heart and soul of a Glasgow boy.

I saw the Blue Nile in 1990 in Providence, RI. I was 19 or 20 and had been a huge fan since first hearing them at the age of 15. After the show, I found myself standing within a few feet of PJ Moore and I was so overwhelmed and shy I couldn't say hello. I regret that so much.

This man saved my life over and over and over He's like the angel and the prophet for me. I left my country Bangladesh and came to the USA New York City. Up to this day I still struggle. The only thing that keeps me going in life is Paul Buchanan and the Blue Nile 👊🤛✌️👍👏🙏❤️❤️❤️

I've been to Glasgow last year and sometimes I walked endlessly around town with no clear direction in mind, while listening to The Blue Nile. Since music is everything to me, this is one of my memories I cherish the most: so small, so perfect. Thank you Mr. Buchanan

It saddens me to think someone as talented as Paul Buchanan would ever feel washed up. My life would be much emptier were it not for the music of The Blue Nile and the individual work of its musicians. Paul is a gifted poet and I genuinely wish he would publish books because I can't help but think he has stacks of songs written down that will never be shared.

I don't think Paul has any idea of the impact The Blue Nile and he in particular have had on so many people around the world. I live in Australia and during the 1980s their 1st 2 albums were in every second college student's room. To think he believes he 'hasn't done anything worthwhile' or hasn't done enough is a terrible thought. If I had the chance of seeing and hearing him live in the UK I would sell my saddle, bridle, stupid pointless expensive dinner service and other materialistic nonsense to fly over there from here in a flash. Please play live again before I die Paul X.

I absolutey agree. I know the story behind them - told so many times - by so many sound engineers up and coming, but you still think - how on earth were they so far ahead of their own generation?

Reminds me a lot of Talk Talk's Mark Hollis. Both geniuses, both quietly spoken and gentle, and both behind some of the most precious and foreward-thinking records of the 80s and early 90s.

Quietly, thoughtful interview. I hope the three of them do bump into each other on that street corner. The parts of TBN are individually impressive, the sum of those parts change people…maybe for just a minute or an hour but the change is the thing; a force for good in a nasty world. Thank you.
