A friend of mine also wrote to The Blue Nile, and I received two postcards, one from Robert Bell and one from Paul Buchanan, with one wishing me a happy birthday, and the second just wishing me the best. They are treasured items.

For sure one of the best albums of the 80s and we all know 80s are the best decade in music ever...

I remember when "A Walk Across The Rooftops" was released and I have been a fan ever since. "Hats"believe it or not, took me a while to get into..but eventually it grew on me,and is now one of the best albums I have ever heard. The Blue Nile are a very acquired taste, and Buchanans voice is out there for the rest of the world to share, if people will take a few moments of their time to listen.

What a great sense of outlook. Rarely do I see a lyricists write with so much respect when you listen to them it has that true sense of intimacy. I don't mind that it takes 6 years for the band to produce an album, as long as it's good and worthwhile to listen. Truly unforgettable songs. Thanks for posting this interview...

I'm only just getting into the Blue Nile. Nice Interview. I would say 'Tinseltown in the Rain' is one of the all time greats, very groovy and dancey, yet captivates with the yearning lyrics and vocals. Mad stuff indeed )

Wow! So often when you love a band's music, then see an interview with them it destroys the magic. However his quiet modesty only makes me respect the beautiful records he crafts even more.

I once got two birthday cards from The Blue Nile back in the 80s, because (I think) a friend had written to them saying what a fan I was. One from Paul, and one from Robert. I still treasure them.

You're so, so right about Marty Whelan, he's a terrible interviewer. However, this interview was done by Mark Cagney, a real music fan and an obviuos fan. He does a fine job interviewing Paul.

@Thefaze100963 Interesting question. However, I'm a little curious as to why you're asking this question on a post for a Scottish person, from a Scottish band. (I know the interviewer is Irish, but I feel that he's rather inconsequential. I could be wrong.) I say, listen to more Scottish music! ;-D
