I remember back in the early 2000's, I was at the local boxing gym and I was sparring with another guy. All of the sudden my boxing coach yells at me, "WHY YOUR HANDS DOWN?!!" Prime Roy was amazing ! He was so fast and naturally talented plus the hard work he put in on top of that natural talent and speed made him the great boxer he was. The thing is for athletes primes don’t all last the same obviously and I remember back in the day it seemed like it happened so fast and I guess in a way it did with Roy losing and getting knocked out badly those first 2 times back to back. I’ve watched a lot of boxing and seen a lot of k.o’s over the years but it just hit me differently seeing a guy who seemed so super human get knocked out so brutally like that from 2 boxers who really weren’t even known as big punchers. I wish he would have retired a long time ago after winning some ceremonial fights he had over a decade ago now! But for some reason he still chooses to get in the ring and do these circus events. It’s finally hit me as simple as it is, that the dude is just doing what he wants to do in life! You only live once so you might as well do it how you want! Y’all must’ve forgot!

☎️ Beautifully put! I couldn't stand Roy Jones JR! But, the worse thing that could have happened to boxing was when he got knocked out twice in 2004 from moving up to Heavy Weight to fight Ruiz in 2003 then coming back down to light heavyweight and not being the same fighter ever again! 🥊I was sitting in front of the TV when Glen Johnson had him on the ropes beating him up! And I was happy but then the boxing fan in me who respects greatness started to kick in and I was saying something just isn't right with Roy and I was waiting for one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen to emerge! 🥊But shortly after that he got Knocked out badly. And to be honest that's when my whole perception of Roy changed and I said I may have just witnessed one of the greatest boxers ever who I didn't like career just end 😞 It made me realize how I took him for granted all of those years hating on him because I thought he was to arrogant. But, in all actually he should have been as arrogant as he was because he was one of the greatest fighters ever with probably the best boxing talent an God given skills ever in one fighter.🥊

Bruh both fighters are thicc, but damn pettis got extra thicc. For those that are from boxing and not ufc, he was a much smaller weight fighter in his prime, and he has just left or is still in it. This guy was new school 10 years ago. Showtime cage flying kicks was this guy. He was almost skin and bone in his ufc days. As an boomer casual lol, this is a shock to the system seeing pettis this bulky.

can definitely see the difference in the power of Jones to Pettis even for 54 still hits like a monster can hear the thud even when blocked. I actually don't know who wins first time watching it avoided any news or coverage about it till now, but Pettis has the stamina an endurance advantage an youth of course, but Pettis is throwing actual combos Jones just looking for that right hook, figure Jones is just there for the payday not win has nothing to prove.

The crazy part about it is people actually paying to see this shit 😄 Commentators even sound cringe trying to make it seem like some serious fight. They're 3 minute rounds of pure ridiculousness. I can understand there's money to made from their perspective, but man. I don't see how it's even worth it. This was absolutely terrible lol. The key for them is to just be there and get a check lol. I would not pay a damn dollar to see a 54 year old Roy light tap his way through 3 minutes rounds. They are basically sparring. Then here comes the "if Roy was younger" talk. No shit! We all know how great he was, but that phase is over and I pass on this shit lol.

I get what the commentator is saying 2:31 , but u dont do a legend dirty like that. U come at them as they come at you. No tactics to win. Let them go out on their shield. I get digging to the ribs on a 54 year old, but give him his respect, u already have youth etc on your side, u don't need to use tactics against an old man, give them their chance to show the world what made them greatest at what they do. Fight them on equal terms. ❤ treat others how u want to be treated, in fact' treat every altercation like ur sparring at a gym, match their level, never aggravate or up it, try and control it, it being the situation. Maybe u need to wear a few hooks from a young one to show them they aint made of glass. U know, school of hard knocks. Best way to learn, throw them in the deep, if they sink, they will make good trainers. If they swim, u got a champ in the making. Tysons best trainers were mediocre boxers. Those who cant do, teach. Because u couldn't do it, its actually ur secret life long quest, to make a fighter that u couldnt be. Ur glory is their glory which is ur glory. Cus dmato had floyd patterson, but mike made cus a household name. He perfected in what he had in floyd. Floyd had the skills, but lacked the body for heavyweights, as he was an actual cruiser weight like mike, but mike wasnt built lanky, he was built wide and short. Like a neanderthal, the best warrior human class in terms of strength speed and endurance, mike was the closest at the time to a living legend sunce bruce lee. Mike made boxing look like a martial art with style. His gazelle punches, the way he turned angles and shifted position, his head movement, dude was the bruce lee of boxing. Thats why ip man 4 the mivie was actually a nice homage. Donnie yen playing ip man, the first sifu of bruce lee, martial arts is good, but in a locked room, a boxer will win 8/10 times. As mike said everyone has a plan until punched in the face, and as mahority of eastern martial arts dont actually spar, they never get punched in the face, so are never actually conditiined when ish gets real in an actual event. They look sloppy, and revert to highschool haymaker boxing with zero skill. Its like they wasted 30 years sniffing their own farts or something😂

I'm looking at some of these comments. Mostly positive about Roy Jones Jr. still fighting at 54 yrs old and some comments saying it's a shame he's 54 and still trying to box. Well, first I give it up to both Jones Jr. and Pettis. Pettis even having the heart to even step in the ring being out of his league from MMA and fighting a super legend that knows boxing. My hat goes off to Pettis for that and he looked impressive for his first professional debut. Plus, Jones Jr. even considering to still box at 54. Most wouldn't be thinking of boxing anymore at 54. But, in my opinion; he still has the will to box and if he can still box; why not. Jones Jr. has to be in incredible shape at 54 and boxing 8/3 min rounds. Alot of people would be gassed after 1 round. And he still can throw those hands. Maybe not like he use to but in his prime. Especially all in the 90's nobody was touching him. Middleweight, Light heavyweight, Heavyweight. Champion in all those divisions. Plus, I remember for awhile he was the undisputed champion in middleweight with all the belts. My favorite boxer of all time. Legend would be an understatement.

Man if Roy got on a serious diet plan and cut off about 20 pounds he would gain almost all of his old speed back. Simple peripheral unneeded weight is the only thing slowing him down. It's much easier to store unnecessary weight in the arms and outer extremities as you get older or with poor diet. A strict diet would cut all of that off.
