I am originally from Scotland, I think the people of the UK always appreciated Roy's artistry even more than they did in America. The great voice is a given, but it is the great soul that keeps his music as fresh today as it was 60 years ago. I remember hearing him on Radio Luxembourg in the late 50's and early 60's and I knew he was different and special, even as a child. There was something deep and mysterious about his music, not unlike the great Scots folk song I grew up listening to and singing. Roy tapped into the deep subconscious mind and his music stayed with you. Much later after I moved to the States, I was out fishing in the Bayous of Louisiana. It was with my cousins Mark and Jim and their good friend Robert, a Cajun born and bred. I asked him where we were and he laughed and said " I'm not sure". He checked and said " Oh, we're fishing the Blue Bayou" so matter of factly, it took me a beat to reply...where the catfish play? We had a laugh. Then I broke into song and my rag tag group joined in...I'll never be blue my dreams come true, on Blue Bayou!

My wife and I saw Roy Aug 4th 1988 (3 months before he died) at Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati, OH. Believe it or not, he was opening for Ray Charles. We left when Roy was done. Thinking back on it, that was stupid, but Ray Charles was having a hissy-fit over the sound settings, so we escaped.

He so reminds me of my dad. He absolutely loved him. When dad sang, he sounded like him as well, bitter sweet for me 😮💨😮💨

This performance was taped at Rockefellers on Washington Avenue in Houston Texas....I know because I was there. He was having heart issues around that time, and had to rest in his bus between shows. Super guy....I really miss him.

My first encounter, that I know of, with this song was a cover by Linda Rohnstadt in mid to late 70s, Kasey Kasem. Later I found out it was Roy's song. Both very great reditions! But now it has a more special meaning to me as the wife and I spent a year in LA. Came home to the Idaho cold winters, COVID sent us home,, What's wrong with this boy? Now i long to go back to my Blue Bayou

This song has become Linda Ronstadt's signature song, so much so that I hadn't realized it was originally co written by Roy Orbison. Don't know why not, the chords are so quintessentially Roy I don't know how I could have missed it

To me this performance seems to be influenced by the Linda Ronstadt version. Roy Orbisons original version was quicker and lighter.
