Great piece of on-the-job modification Glynn. It is so satisfying, almost welcoming, when these situations arise and you have to switch into creative mode to remedy the problem. They panniers and brackets are a perfect fit both in terms of security and aesthetically. I'm not sure if you've done this already, but you could protect the pannier supports from scratches by fitting some rubber pieces behind the brass "toilet" fittings. BTW you have a lovely charm and presentation tone about you that makes your videos easy to listen too. Keep safe.

What an excellent result ! I agree with you about the importance of load-carrying on a bike. Having never seen the 350 Classic in the flesh I have always thought that any bags/panniers fitted on them stick out too far. I love your solution ! I had a '93 Bullet 500 and fitted fibreglass ("HD-esque!") panniers from Acrybre Mouldings (Weymouth?) and managed to fit them lower + further back than usual. Not only did this look much better but enabled me to keep them closer to the centreline of the bike. I wish Enfield explained why they made the metalwork around the rear shocks stick out so much compared to the original Bullets. It definitely causes problems for those of us who always fitted panniers/top boxes to our bikes.

Great stuff Glynn, I did similar with 15mm Munzen rings and screwed rod to stabilize/tie-down a cylinderical shaped chopper bag on a Sissy bar for a trip from London to Prague 2018 on my H-D. Glad you kept the solo seat it gives the bike it's character whilst showing off the rear mudguard, in my humble opinion when you tried the Bullet 2-up seat the bike lost something. I've bought lots of gear off of Motea (not for my RE yet) over the past couple of years and in general its usually good quality and a fairly fast delivery. Another enjoyable video sir.

Excellent idea using the brass fixing . And thinking outside the box with using toilet pipe brackets. That's actually made me think how my rear rack plate is fitted. When I first saw the finished bike I thought it’s the best looking classic I’ve ever seen, bar that horrible piece of scaffolding around the engine. In the beginning of this video I thought those bags will outshine the crash bar but in the end they look rather good. Far nicer than I expected! Admittedly I prefer the full length RE bags, but these messenger bags do give this bike a well rounded look, nicely done with the brass fittings!

I'm in the process of sorting out my day to day luggage, I want to keep the hard box on the right side and I want to fit a rhinowalk soft pannier on the left, I bought the L shaped pannier racks from Hitchcocks but they are not quite right so I'm thinking of selling and I think the pannier rails you have will do a better job. I have used metal "P Clips" in the past on fibreglass boxes. You can also get them covered with black plastic. Initially I obsessively checked them incase they started cracking but eventually my paranoia subsided. They never let me down + were checked only when I occasionally washed the bike.

Look loads better than the RE ones definitely look more robust looking and with waterproof inners look better on to, Much better fixing solution. surprised to see the classic seat still on 😳 look great on to, just one small thing I think I would have put something a little rigid in the bag then the bolts, something like the side of a 5lt windscreen wash canister just to take some of the strain off the material when loaded. …. Just my thought. …. Pete🇫🇷

Thanks Pete, they're just the right size for me, I don't need loads of room. Luckily they have a stiff plastic sheet in the back already and the canvas is folded around it internally so as long as the plastic is secure, the weight of the bag will hang on that. I've just been on the Amazon for some nice chunky washers to spread the force around the holes, there's always something else to get isn't there. Cheers, Glyn👍

Nice job Glyn! But not that easy to take off and put back on. Crash bars look great, and even better now as you say, balanced by the panniers. I bought on eBay a pair of "original" RE pannier frames and canvas (unwaxed) bags for my Classic 350 R, but I want a lockable pannier that can go on and come off easily. La Poderosa is a Spanish company that has nice gear, and they sell the German Klickfix clips separately, and these perhaps might work with your very nice Motea bags? They fit the Hitchcock rails, but not the RE frames grrr.

They've become really popular haven't they? They make the head small but as you say, they can make getting a good purchase on the bolt a bit difficult. I bought an allen drive set for my socket set about ten years ago. If I didn't have that I imagine it would be torture having to work with the little right angle keys, I think that's what causes the problems. They just don't feel 'nice' or rewarding to use do they?
