Just recently started watching your channel. Late subscriber.😊 The issue encountered during the fitting of the camshaft. You found that the crank,hadn’t been locked up. (Sorry am no mechanic) thus it was a cog or two,out. Steven lent the camshaft tools to Glyn Owen, for his project Classic 350. Glyn found that the crank locking tool would not fit, in to lock the crank. He had to work on the tool, to make it fit. So when Steven has bike in at dealer to get cam fitted. Surely they would have found this out then, and should have gotten in touch with Steven, to say, that the crank tool, doesn’t fit into slot to lock the crank, in place. You can go back and watch Glyn’s video, of him doing this.😊 Just putting 2 and 2 together. Best regards….. Wee Mark.😊

@weemark67 Thanks for the sub! Yes, I am subbed to Glyn's channel. The problem was, as I said in the video, the the engine side casing had never been removed. So, the crank locking tool had never been used on this engine!

Great video thanks. My 350 Classic is standard. Only difference is my mate’s has Hitchcock’s performance cam. Both v similar mileage and we’re roughly same weight. Both in 5th gear at 50 mph up a gradual incline, my mate 20yds behind me. Turned throttle to the stop simultaneously and he gradually pulled past me and away. Tried it several times with exactly same result. Apparently the benefit of the cam is at circa 4,000 rpm and above. So I can only conclude that the cam does indeed seem to improve power delivery in certain circumstances. Thanks again for your video👍🏍

That was a fun video! 👍 You’ll have to start rolling credits soon with all the cast members, Volcanic Brown, Doppelgänger, Kitty, Mod Bike, Stock Bike, cameo by Honda. 😂 For me, the modifications didn’t produce enough performance gains for the time & effort. Plus, I really like the red & chrome.

This was a lot of fun - a very engaging video. My wife and daughter especially love Pussycat from this and your other videos. I have some thoughts about the performance modifications. I think that most people who perform these modifications really just like to mess around with their bikes. I have to applaud that, since there seems to be a general apathy towards mechanical things these days. I own a Classic 350 that I love to mess around with, as well, but not with engine modifications because the performance as stock is completely correct. Still, I ponder buying a Hunter 350 and modifying it in such a manner as your Halcyon Green. That would seem to be completely appropriate, and fun. As an aside, I don't think you should return your Halcyon Green to stock condition. I mean, why??? You have another model that is stock, so why not continue to ride them both as they are and, perhaps, allow your opinion to evolve about stock v. modified. I would be very interested in that. In any case, your video was bloody great. Thank you!

This does prove a gain in the 0-60 0f -4 seconds approximately. The tuning does work, but not worth the investment in the flatlands. But in hilly areas, is where it’s worth doing, and of course, safer overtakes. In the final analysis it depends whether you want to tune the J platform engine, and want to spend the money doing it. Great video by the way, split screen isn’t easy!

more cam duration robs the low end and gives it to the upper rmp. Also a Dyno the peake is not the most important number on a street bike, you want a goid braud torque curve with goid low rpm numbers.
@borderlands6606Ай бұрын
It depends how hard you want to wind the throttle of an air-cooled, 2-valve 350 single. Apart from the odd blast to hear the exhaust note, my mechanical sympathies exceed any desire to thrash the little Enfield to the limit.
@Volcanicbrown1878Ай бұрын
@borderlands6606 Just hard acceleration up to 60, Neither bike got anywhere near the rev limiter so got nowhere near the limits. The vid was about performance mods over a stock bike. Can't demonstrate Performance parts by poodling about! (I do not ride like that normally)
@borderlands6606Ай бұрын
@@Volcanicbrown1878 Not a criticism, more a comment on how some riders expect the little single to perform. I'm actually pleased some people ride them flat out, because it shows it's not a fragile engine. I still think there are better bikes if people regularly want to hoon about, and I've no idea why they'd choose a 350 Classic to do it.
@Volcanicbrown1878Ай бұрын
@@borderlands6606 I don't ride like shown in the video on the 350's, if I want to do that, i mount up the 750 Interceptor or even the 650 Inter! You don't have to try to make them go! I personally think the lil Enfield's are perfectly fine as they are, standard.

On Hitchcocks dyno graph they say not to pay attention to the numbers themselves but the percent gained. Maybe 30% on a 15hp bike isn’t really that noticeable after all. I bet you’d know it going from 100 to 130hp. Everyone says it’s like night and day though, so who knows?
@Volcanicbrown1878Ай бұрын
@elwood62 Jumping from one bike to the other, I cannot tell the difference between the two!
@ruahinesriderАй бұрын
Dyno should be the same one model only as there are many Dyno.Some measure from the crank some are in Nm some in Lbs/ft some at the wheels & some will say 4hp gain & another will same 5hp gain. They don't allow for camber in-climb & weight which have a affect.Two bikes the same but one 10kg lighter will be quicker etc.Lot's of factors to consider.A 1-2hp & 4Nm gain & the weight loss with lighter pipe actually makes a big difference in the real world 🌎, people see 1-2hp 4Nm & think 🤔 that's bugger all but don't consider weight savings as well & rpm differences & if try it notice it straight away & are surprised.A 4-5hp gain with a Cam upgrade is alot especially on a smaller bike.
@Volcanicbrown1878Ай бұрын
@ruahinesrider It's a shame the mod kit doesn't make hardly a jot of difference on the Enfield over a standard one.
@RebelCowboysRVs29 күн бұрын
You're not wrong. Remember we use to go by a term called brake horsepower. We measured that by bolting a giant brake disk to the back of an engine, revved it up an slammed on the brakes. Brake horsepower was how much energy it took to drag the engine the engine to a stop. Completely useless information for comparing anything but the same engine on the same dyno. Real world 0 to 60s are much more useful an easier to understand. The problem is consistency. It's extremely hard as a rider to do everything exactly the same. So it's usually done lots of times an averaged. Current drum dynos are trying to simulate actual acceleration. The drum is weighted to simulate the mass of what it's testing. The test is also ran without shifting. It's makes for a much more consistent, repeatable test. But it still has problems. The drum is always to heavy or to light so not directly comparable to real world tests. You also still can't compare between different dynos. What you can do is compare completely different engines. I am sure we could build a better system but would it matter. No matter how good we build a system, the end result will give us a graph. What we have now is good enough for people that really understand how to read the graphs. Most people will never be good at that. They need something visual like this video. Or they need to feel it. You can't get around that. So perfecting a better graph maker is pointless.
@RebelCowboysRVs29 күн бұрын
It's also worth pointing out that these upgrades don't really create much more power, it just moves where in the engine rpm range the power is produced. While this test is valid for how you ride the bike, another rider may have better or worse results. The guy that keeps the engine in the lower part of the rpm range by shifting earlier will be faster on the factory bike. The guy using the top of the rpm range by shifting later, he is going to be faster on the modified bike. If that doesn't muddy the water on if someone should mod theirs, I don't know what would, lol.
@Volcanicbrown187829 күн бұрын
@@RebelCowboysRVs All very valid points! I'm just a fella with a GoPro and a few bikes, so all I can do is what I did! If that makes any sense!
@RiderOftheNorth1968Ай бұрын
I can´t really have an opinion on this since the testing is no where near scientific. This test tells you exactly one thing: A person drives slightly different from time to time..... Good effort tho! 👍
