Have used Himalyan to reach 17,000 ft(with luggage) in Himalayas with 40% off road. The bike did it with no issues. Of course it slows down but a very reliable bike.

There was a video of an Indian dude riding a Himalayan in the Himalayan’s. The bike was stalling at high elevation quite a few times. Great video. I may never do that since I live in New England, but now I have!

In the 70s I would hike the pikes peak trail. If my memory is correct it was 14 mi. Drove to the top a bunch of times. The road was mostly gravel back then. Thanks for the video!

@@AdvMatthew yea it started not far from Manitou springs and went by the cog railway for a part of the way. Two thirds of the way was not so bad, I think that was to the cabin then the last third was a booger. It was a long time ago but I remember we mostly had the trail to ourselves.

We have a pass called "Abra del acay" in Argentina, which claims to be the tallest road in America (more than 16059 feet), not sure if it is true. I went there a couple of times in a 4x4 car. Would love to come back with a Himalayan. Thanks for sharing the video.

Glad to see you & the 'Himi' were up to the the challenge. Even that 'rodent' was surprised! Was going to ask about driveability at that elevation but saw an earlier poster asked/answered. How were the brakes?

I think it was a marmot but I am terrible with identifying wildlife! I was surprised by how many I saw. Regarding the brakes they were fine, I hardly touched them except for a few of the tighter switchbacks so they never had a chance to warm up and get spongy. Himalayan really engine brakes quite nicely on those grades, 3rd gear at about 25-30 mph and it never felt like it wanted to run away from that.

Sure is. I'd love to do some riding out east. Would be a nice change from the high alpine environment that we have in the west, I have heard the ranges and forests out there are spectacular.

@@AdvMatthew That's the funny thing about those winding roads: The twists and turns are not there to let you take your attention away from them, so frequent stops are the best way to get the views. The Blue Ridge Parkway is full of turnouts for that, but is rather tame with the turns. There are some other roads that are notorious for their dangerous bends, though. I was there for a week and probably only experienced 1% of what the area has for roads. Some are like a green tunnel with overlooks at the high spots. Lots of contoured pasture and creeks everywhere. If it's too hot out where you are, you could be 30 seconds from the cool shade of a draw.

I´m just a step away to by a REH and I´m interested how step is the road and in wich gear you made it up there?

Not sure of the exact grade, as each stretch is different. But the main ascent (from Crystal Creek Reservoir) is around 5,000 feet over 13 miles of switchbacks.

How was the Himalayan in the thinner air? Any power problems? I see your engine cut out on the way down - I put an Iridium plug in mine which, certainly, helped with that, but it still happens now and then.

It has a noticeable decrease in power, but nothing dramatic. I felt it could have easily have gone up another couple thousand feet with no issues. Regarding the engine cutting out, I was really surprised. I thought we were past that, it hasn't cut out in over 2,000 miles. And even then it would only do that when cold and pulling up to a stop sign or traffic light. I'll probably go Iridium on my next oil change.

@@AdvMatthew Yes, that's when mine was cutting out - engine cold and coming to a stop. Since that happened a few times, I nearly always let mine tick over for a minute or two while I'm getting my gear on, but I do think the iridium plug helped to improve things.

@@AdvMatthew My 2019 BS4 did the same, and also hunted on a trailing throttle. They are set extremely lean to meet emission regs. Added a Lextek muffler (6kg weight saving), K&N air filter and a PowerCommander ECU. Problem solved. A 16-tooth front sprocket completed the package, and now cruises at 100kmh at 4500rpm.
