You really don't need a screen on a bike with a 70mph maximum speed. It just causes unnecesary turbulence, especially for taller riders. Nice comparison, even though the bikes are very similar. The 450 will be more technically advanced and much quicker, but then that's more to go wrong? The Himmy 411 is pretty indestructable because of the low-stress on the motor and in real world use, its torquey delivery is ample for making decent progress. Not a motorway cruiser though. My son and his significant other recently completed a 15,000 mile ride round Europe over four and a half months and thirty-five countries, including a lot of off-roading. Both were riding 411 Himmy's, the only thing that broke was a pannier frame, quickly welded up by a friendly local. Great bike!

The stock screen on the Euro5 Himmy is ok for smaller folk. The shorter screens work better for taller riders.

If the dials can be opened safely you can place one of those silica gel packs (thing that are put in with new shoes, elec items etc) . Will draw moisture away from screen.

Thanks for comparing the two. I'm torn on my decision. If the only difference was the front wheel, it'd be a no brainer; I love the nimbleness of the Scram, but I need all the luggage options there are on the Himalayan. Such a hard decision.

Gyroscopic steering is rake angle setting. This can be changed by adjusting fork height. I can take mine as an example from flush which is higher turn tendency and less gyroscopic to above which becomes more gyroscopic feeling when trying to go into turns and goes stable and straight. Folks in an off-road race would adjust these as per normal course for rider preference to the track type but street riders just ride as is and get used to them. As a bike builder they can dial in any feel they want for marketing the bike as an agile and nimble street machine to a stable bike that just feels like it wants the cruise all day in straight lines.

I sat on both and preferred the Himmy. A tall chap met recently he said he removed the screen on the Himalayan, said it was much better. Am used to it now but def need good noise reduction earbuds. And yeah the dials not moving etc took me some getting used to! Center stand was also a big reason. P.s Just about to get the x bars sorted. Boots needed at NEC.

Those new Himalayan loses the military dash look for a new big digital cyclops eye. A push of the button cycles it through different displays including an old school analogue gauge look.

Yes. Somewhat true. I've been using Jodie's bike for a bit, and I still prefer mine. I don't like the turbulence, and it just doesn't whizz around traffic as quickly. I can see where you're coming from, though. I have a soft spot for mine.

80mph is just not enough to cruise at 70mph on out motorways for long periods, it is one of the few things that puts me off the RE 350 & 411 great for a bimble as my mate puts it, ride safe

Ive got the scram. Ive tried 2 screens/windshields. Ive even cut one down just to shield the dials. All of them just created crap turbulance. I think it needs an angle on it? Or no screen at all. Muz from oz

I mainly use crappy potholed rural roads with the odd long motorway stint. In balance the Himmy just pips it on practicality for me too.

Re: Fogy garage gear… it’s nice looking, but pricey! I wanted the Grit boots but 2 problems. Firstly they are eye-wateringly expensive, but once I had talked myself into accepting that - especially as I was going to get a discount (thank you!)…. I then find out there is no UK distributor or retailer. This means you have to take pot luck on whatever you buy, (from Hong Kong) as to whether they are going to fit! I emailed them and Fogy suggested buying 2 sizes and then returning the one you don’t want to their warehouse in Germany. That is WAY to much agro, a large outlay of money to try them on, (RRP £338 a pair). Not to mention the agro messing with the return shipping then waiting for a refund. Shame! Sort it out Fogy!

@@murrayhyde4902 Some Royal Enfields have yellow stickers put on the clocks during assembly & Cover the drain holes to let moisture out. Interceptor & GT have them & clocks fog up & remove the stickers so moisture can get out & air get in to stop foggy up.
