A good comparison to this could be a KTM 390 adventure. Yes it makes more power and had better electronics and what not, but its also an A2 compatible bike and it's one of the only other small capacity adv bikes around

Royal Enfields rebirth is the best thing to happen to motorcycling in the last five years. It's bringing many many new people into the fold with simple, affordable, reliable, fun and good looking bikes. Kudos to them and excited for their future. Nice video Spite!

Rebirth?… That implies they'd stopped producing bikes at some point. RE have been in continuous motorcycle manufacturing since 1901… the longest unbroken period of any marque. Initially building them solely in the UK, then from the mid fifties to 1970 in both the UK and in India, and since 1970 in India alone (though in recent years they've had a major R&D base in the UK again, as well as in Chennai). Like many companies, particularly in the automotive world, ownership has changed over the years, but the marque has continued in production without break for over 120 years.

@@Stevel_ Fair point, if you include scooters. My French Peugeot riding friends wouldn't forgive me for forgetting them. There are a few nice 1920's to 1950's Peugeot bikes in my brother's classic bike club (He lives in SW France). I followed a few on my Interceptor as marshal on one of their events in the mountains of the Languedoc.

@@chrisgraham5186 Yes, it was a rebirth or call it a rejuvenation if you wish. New management bought Harris to design new chassis, hired some other engineers away from the competition, and started rolling out new models.

@@ws8080 Rejuvenation is closer… or just a case of a new owner providing development funds, as often happens. Whatever you call it, we have firstly the Indian company laws to thank, for keeping the Madras/Chennai operation safe from the liquidators grubby mitts in 1970… and in more recent years, Eicher Motors, and in particular Sid Lal's vision and enthusiasm to thank for refinancing the company and heading the marque to greater things.

If I lived in a rural town, that would be the bike to have. Simple enough to repair yourself, enough power to go everywhere around, and the quiet engine is great to enjoy the scenery. I am just happy RE exist and set a good mark for cheap, nice bikes. Great video.

I also live rural and other than the quiet engine those are the reasons I garaged my other bikes and moved to a DR650. Dual sports and BASIC ADVs like the Himalayan are great where I live.

Absolutely true. I live in a rural part of a developing country. If you are young and don't have much money, the thing to have is a dual sport or a light adv bike. Here there are a ton of Honda and imported chinese 150cc and 250cc dual sports, with Himalayans recently thrown in the mix. You can use it day to day for work, go fishing or hunting on weekends, they can be used to get to neighboring villages. On occasion if you put together enough money, you can even take long journeys without much problems. I know people that have travelled from Cordoba to Ushuaia on XR250, a 6000km round trip.

I have ridden one of these and I agree Spite it is a great beginner bike. For the Nay Sayers out there I will remind them that Itchy Boots has ridden one from India back to Holland and also 2/3rds the length of South America with only minor problems with this bike. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. Great review Spite!

@@kevincrockett5155 She had to abandon the Himalayan in South America, Covid hit and she could not continue the journey. She then flew a CRF over and completed the trip to Alaska on that. All is explained in the end of trip movie that she has just posted.

Its fast enough off road. I usu keep up with all the big adventure bikes off road :) .. And on all other paved roads, I can always comfortably manage speed limit + 5 mph more..

Bought a Scram 411 a couple months ago and have put a little over 2000 miles on it now. Taken it to Texas and a couple other states. It does really well on highways. It's not going to blow you away or pop any wheelies, but this thing is smooth riding at highway speeds. Couldn't have chosen a better beginner adventure bike

I have Scram too and it really depends on the highway speeds in your country. Here it is 81mph and I don't feel comfortable in highway trafic on it. 65mph is good speed tho, you can get there on 4th gear and then cruise at 5th. 81 it can do maybe downhill... (Edit 105 and 130kmph. Btw people want 150 on highways here...)

@@daniellandry9366 I am 185cm and the Scram 411 is decent. There is one smaller issue, I have knees slightly over the edge on the gas tank, because the seat is slightly angled to front in the rear part. I am thinking about adding some cushioning to make the rear of the front part more flat so that I would stay at the back of it. Otherwise it is very comfortable. I rode 1,5h after 10 years and no issue. The seat is more comfortable then in the original Himalayan. On a bad road it feels confident. It can clear bumps easily but if the road is pothole next to pothole (literally), it is better so stand at 40kmph. But the bike doesn't look to be suffering on such a road. The front doesn't sink much which surprised me, so the Scram might be rather stiff, but in a good way.

I bought a Himalayan after riding Harleys for 7 years and, as slow as this tractor is, I never get off it with a frown on my face. That, and the feeling that I could literally take the entire bike apart and reassemble with the provided tool kit. I can easily perform all of my own valve adjustments and top level work in my garage. It was built to be able to adjust and repair on the side of a mountain. That stalling issue is as simple as a TPS adjustment. Half of the pleasure in this bike is that you can’t quite figure out WHY you love it as much as you do.

I work at an REdealer and I have to say, the Himalayan was the first model we got in our shop, and initially none of us were impressed. As you experienced, these bikes have starting/idling issues from the get go, and it seems like they have some kind if battery draw, because if these bikes sit for even a few days without starting, they will die completely. That said, the 650, 350, and even the new Scram 411, which is literally just this bike with a new dash and smaller front wheel have none of these issues. It's insane how quickly and concisely they've stepped up their quality control and finish on their new motorcycles!

I have an '18.. it had the usual Himmi idle/relay issues. The local dealer took months trying to (finally) fig out it needed a FP relay. Once the relay was replaced it ran beautifully and has ever since. My worst experience was dealing with the shop.. a bunch of hacks imo. Whoever worked on it stripped a tank bolt but said nothing about it. After the warranty expired I steered clear of them and did my own maintenance. I really like the bike, it's great for exploring FSRs, even 2 up. I have 2 other bikes but the Himmi is by far my favorite. 😍

IIRC that "choke" lever is the idle adjustment. The bike is fuel injected, so there's no "need" for a choke, but the designers put that idle control on there so that when riders are ascending the Himalayan mountains (it's named the Himalayan for a reason), they can adjust the idle to keep the bike running better at higher altitudes.

I love my Himalayan (mainly because it is my first bike). I put a tall seat on it cos I'm quite tall also and it helped so much with long rides and overall comfort (seat concepts tall, if anyone is interested). I did ride a Kawasaki 650 for a few weeks beforehand and found that I was only ever using 3rd gear for pretty much everything, which why I love riding the Himalayan so much; you really have to pick the right gear for the situation you're in, which makes the overall ride so much more engaging to me. It also seems, surprisingly, to be ok at highway speeds and I've had little issue getting it up to 120km/h (about 75m/h). While it doesn't rocket off the line it definitely has more pace than the average car and can get up to speed no problem. Not sure how much Spite weighs but I fluctuate between 95-100kg. (oh he's 240lb) Great bike.

I'm 5'3 and this is the ideal size for me. Absolutely love my Himalayan and I'm learning off-road techniques. Such a reliable and forgiving bike. I've never had any issues with low idle or stalling. I find it a versatile bike with a great entry price.

As a younger rider I started with the Kawasaki triple in the 70's and kept pushing the envelope for that adrenaline rush, until I finally I ended up on a Ninja. As I got older being able to pull wheelies at 55mph gave way to just enjoying the ride, so I bought a Goldwing which my wife and I both enjoyed together. I moved to the Andes from the states and wanted to replace the Goldwing's non demanding touring demeanor while allowing off road ability and settled on the RE Himalayan. The fact that it is less refined than the Goldwing gives this bike its charm. Down here in South America, it always seems to attract a lot of attention for its Indiana Jones classic and rugged design that with luggage, oozes visions of world back road travel on a budget. It gives the rider, everything they need, while forcing them to relax and enjoy the moment. Having long legs the seat and tank cutouts bothered me at first but I hardly notice it now. The bike is fantastic for exploring the Andes mountains, when exploring mountainous back roads the engineering begins to make a lot of sense. It happily does what it needs to do, and really allows the rider to be less focused on the bike and more focused on the experience. On this bike the rider sees more of the natural beauty because of the fact that the bike is just there as a supporting actor rather than playing the leading role and the center of attention, as high performance bikes do. It is my primary transportation behind my classic Nissan Patrol 4WD, and I do not have any desire to upgrade. It is a fun bike that is easy on the eyes and the wallet.

I picked up a 2019 Himalayan 3 days ago, I had a precision end can, new down pipe, iridium plug and DNA filter added. It definitely helps. I'm glad I found your review as it confirms everything I want from this bike: Economical, great to learn / try out off road, travel, camp, tour and commute. I did a Vlog of the Reveal on my channel with all the add ons. 😊

Currently ride a 1000cc sports tourer, I went to a Royal Enfield demo day recently and had such a good time on the Himalayan. Strongly considering pulling the trigger on one, also helps that other manufacturers basically have no supply of their small adventure bikes whereas Enfield always seem to have bikes ready to go. I'm a similar height to you though and I relate to having the tank cutouts digging into my knees!

The cold start issue is very common on these. They run too lean, and that "choke" lever really isn't a choke, it adds even more air! I solved this issue on my '22 Himmie by installing a Booster Plug and it hasn't stalled since. I commute in California on mine 250 miles a week and have just passed 10K miles. A few mods and a sprocket swap and these will do 70-75 all day long.

I already have a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 for commuting to and from work; it's a brilliant little reliable and versatile bike. Next on the list is a Himalayan for camping. After that, I'm going for the new RE Meteor 650 2023 for long range touring. These bikes are bloody great for the price range. Real value for money.

I have a Himalayan and a Classic 500. To be honest, I ride the Himmy three times out of four. I LOVE the Classic, but the Himmy is just more fun and practical.

The Himalayan you rode needs the software update that will fix the cold stall issues. I’m buying one this fall. I followed Ol’Man Ronin until he died of cancer. His continuous laughter while enjoying this bike proves that the Himalayan is all about FUN!

There is something to be said about smaller bikes. Not just for beginners but for all experience levels. When it comes down to daily riding on asphalt or gravel you don’t really need 100hp bikes. Comfort, useful power, lightweight, and generally easier maintenance. A few minor upgrades and you’re set for a long time.

I have one of these as a commuter, touring, and light offroader in NY/New England. I’ve done plenty of highway riding on the bike, and I found that Hitchcock’s intake cover actually helps with its highway manners a lot. The stock cover has a very small air inlet, the Hitchcock/DNA one is much larger. I don’t think it does much (if anything at all) for peak power, but it changes the power curve a bit and improves response at smaller throttle openings. You wind up using a bit less throttle at highway speeds and it feels a bit more chilled out. The Hitchcocks part is ~$30 and made of metal, although you could achieve the same effect by dremeling out the factory plastic airbox cover. With me and a load of camping gear on the back it’ll cruise happily at 70 mph all day long.

As an absolutly beginer /boght my himy this year, and started riding again after 30 yeras/ can confirm everything you said.. I love this bike, and with less than 5k km of experience i managed to ride some really nice off-road tours, even some "technical" parts. I am a "vertically challenged" rider, and the low center of gravity this bike has, makes it so much fun to ride..

I own a Himalayan alongside a Gold Wing. If you are looking at one, this review is pretty fair … I’ve had mine one year and put about 3500 miles on it. I am 6’1” and replaced the stock seat with a tall Seat Concepts and a 40 mm handlebar riser - addresses issues Spite pointed out. A couple things I would add is that 65-70 US mpg is typical and all REs run on 87 AKI (US)/90 RON gas. $10 gets you 150 miles of fun (@$4/gal US). Secondly, the bike has a three year warranty- I made a claim and RE stood behind the bike. Thirdly - maintenance is every 3k, but easy. You do not have to remove the valve cover to adjust valves and they are old style screw/nut.

I think that way too many people are so worried about aesthetics and never really live life on a motorcycle. I have had way more fun remembering the trip where I had to zip tie ammo cases to my bike as storage. However, I will say that when you are young pulling your bike out of the mud is always an option, but as you get older, you tend to want to get through the mud vs stuck in the mud. That being said, I have always enjoyed bikes more that are easy to fix, easy to ride, and just keep going and going. I have often considered REnfield because you can avoid the gasps of shock and awe, because people do not care what you do to the Enfield, As the price goes up, so does your panic about what happens to the bike as you go out adventuring. I know a lot of people who limit what they do because they are worried that they may devalue the bike. Where is the fun in that?

Thanks for one of the best and truthfull Himalayan reviews, you nailed it and my decision is also influenced by this video. I just bought it as first bike. Together with my girlfriend on the back (she feels very safe and chilled, even with all these boxes around), travelling on country roads and sometimes on highways. Yes, it has not too much power, but still, you can do it. For my girlfriend this is a big advantage, she must not fear the gas lever, the acceleration is smooth and cannot surprise with power spikes. I choosed this bike, because I felt like on a horse - I had just a very good time shifting these clunky gears, listening to the engine/exhaust and watching onto these cool looking instruments. I love the look of it, the price (got it used (6k km) and full equipped - for 4k €) and the fact that you could do more than just onroad riding and in case something must be repaired, it should not be a big problem. I live in Sweden and here the roades are very empty, with speed limits of 40/70 or 110 km/h and a nice view right and left into nature. I can see me and my gf riding through the country, going north, through the woods, using gravel roads to cross a field, with camping supplies in the bags. My girlfriend wants to do her licens next year and really likes the new Himalayan 450. Thats gonna be fun. In the end I must mention that there were not really affordable alternatives next to RE (going to university) - I thought about the CB500X, but it would have been pretty much 2k€ more. Maybe it would have been the better deal, the better bike... But the Himalayan as first bike, this is something I will remember, as good simple and funny days - the puctures, the view as a rider, the heavy clunky feeling, the people looking at you like as you were a knight in shiny armor going out on adventures... And the next bike is gonna be a blast of fun, even with 48hp - unknown feelings for speed. But this awaits in a far future - Anticipation is half the pleasure.

I think your perspective is naturally from a big young guy 240 and 6'4" . BUt I know several, well more than several very experienced older guys that are lighter and a little thinner that love these bikes. Myself included, the problem with a lot of adventure type bikes, is they are too tall in the saddle. I hate tip toeing a top heavy bike. I had a Vstrom 650 Adventure XT which is a great bike, but it is a little top heavy if you are around 5'10" and getting on in years. The Vstrom is a Great bike, but I sold it to buy the Himalayan and also sold my Electraglide, I enjoy the himalayan more. Sure it is not going to cruise down the highway at 90, but most of us miss the fact that it is more fun to cruise down back roads at 50 and still be able to turn down a dirt road to see where it goes.

Air and evap delete will sort out the stalling and EBC pads for the brakes make a big difference as does fresh decent brake fluid, The tick over can be adjusted by lifting the back of the tank and there's a large brass screw head for adjusting, I've had Harleys, Victory's and numerous Japanese bikes but never had so much fun on a bike since I was 17 on a 125, My Yamaha 900 has sat in the shed since i got the Himmi nearly 2 years ago lol. enjoyed your review cheers.

I have a Chinese Dual Sport that I put over 16K miles on in a year and I enjoy it just as much as my Harley-Davidson VRSCR Street Rod. Sure it's not fast but it handles well and is a ton of fun for cruising the local trails. Any bike can be fun if you just ride it instead of listening to what the specs say and others people's opinions about them.

Hey There Spite! Love the Channel, Keep up the good work! I have a 2022 Himalayan back here in India and they have updated the bike by removing the choke. To be fair, we don't need it in most parts of India because it doesn't get as cold as it does in the USA. There is an idle RPM adjustment screw, but its literally under the fuel tank, so you'll have to detach it and then adjust the idle RPM (weird but it is what it is). Again the bike is pretty big for most Indians considering that we aren't on average as tall as y'all are xD I absolutely love the himmy and am glad to see yoou enjoyed it too! Cheers

Had my himi for a couple of years now, biggest gripes are the bike is heavy for a 410cc and is incredibly un-balanced weight. It could do with some more HP, not a great deal, but pushing closer to 35/40HP would serve the bike better, not the best cruiser, can safely cruise all day long at 55mph stock. But forget over taking . Can feel shaky and vibrations at higher than 60mph. Saying this, i have had lots of fun on it. Invest in barkbusters and engine bars, worth their weight in gold, ive dropped mine many times, mainly due to the weight and its an un-balanced weight.

I bought it as a second or third bike, now after five years its still there (some others have changed) and the most driven of all of them. Very often when its a great day with some time to explore, its "ah lets go with the Himi". Finally, it will never be sold.

I just got one a couple days ago, it’s my first bike. I am having a blast! There are times while riding I wish it had more power but thankful that is doesn’t because I’m still learning. The only opportunity (other ppl call it a “problem”) is my slow speed maneuvers. Mostly it’s U-turns and sharp slow turns from a stop up step hills that let me test the durability of the bike vs the ground ha! Also it’s not super heavy to lift a couple times during a practice session. Thanks for the time you take on these vids. 🤘

I have the Himalayan 411, waiting for the 450 with avarice in my eyes. Still, it will be a single cylinder, so probably the 450 will have even worse vibrations than the 411 at high speeds. Kind of a bummer.

Hey I bought one a year so ago, its may be a beginners bike but I'm not a beginner, put a pair of Schinkos 805 on it and a can, I love it to bits, I'm 5 7, its a little high for me but ok, super cheap to run and you can take it anywhere. Mines called Harry and he handles fantistically, it is a bit heavy and the front brake is shite.. put in EBC pads.. better, but I love Harry.. big smiles. Stalling can be fixed by fooling the the air temp sensor to think its cooler by adding in a dual sensor, have one but yet to fit wire it in., I got one one of those throttle bolt on. cruise controls, $9. Use it to warm it up. I just love this bike, twisties and a bit of off road it just dials in the smiles.

13:14 I have to disagree there tbh. This bike is the top choice for serious off roading and trailing here in India. The mountain ranges it is named after have a reputation for notoriously dangerous roads where there's more ruts and deep holes than pavement. The Himalayan makes up the majority of motorcycles that complete these routes where you have to cross some very risky trails.

I’ve seen a couple of videos of riders using the Himalayan to ride up to the Mt. Everest base camp. This thing is a tough workhorse. I’m not much of an adventure type though (I’ve tried the outdoors a few times but it’s just not for me) so I’ve been seriously looking at both the Scram 411 and the Classic 350.

@@MrSpeed-lt8gr i had to choose between Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and the Scram 411. The Scram had just launched a month before I had to pick. RE is known for some teething issues at the beginning of their production runs so I went with the Svartpilen 250 which was already 2.5 years in production locally. You don't have to worry if you're interested in the Scram though. Royal Enfield has a much better QC on international markets than the local network.

I have one a 2021 and I'm 50 been on road bikes since I was 16. I have a bmwk1200 a yamaha thunderace 1000 and use the himalayan for my daily commute to work. However even on the weekends I find myself going out on the himalayan more and now I think I don't see myself ever wanting to not have it in my garage. It just works. Taller riders can get a larger seat, the after market accessories are affordable and can transform this bike to what ever you need it to be.

Holy crap, I just walked into the room and saw this playing on the TV. That thing looks like a rolling Rolex Watch with all the analog gauges from behind the helmet. 😮 It must be expensive with all the second hands. 😂 Racks and all three Panniers are $2600 on a BMW. Hi Spite ! Great review...I have a Hayabusa a Tuono factory and a Himalayan... I ride the Himalayan more than the others especially around town and as a daily rider. It is incredibly cold blooded and even when warm out will not idle until it has been running for a bit. I heard it is the way the fuel injection is set up and you can only adjust it with the TPS and it is a hassle. Once warmed up it is fine. 1500 rpm's. The so called " choke " which I have never seen on fuel injection from what I can tell does nothing..Lol... I hit the starter and rev it until it warms up and then let it idle and restart if necc. Lol.. Great little bike so far... I will only run it 65-70 on the Highway as I do not want to blow it up. Anything above that and your redlining it.... Reliable so far and great gas mileage , small gas tank 4 gal. Unreliable fuel gauge on mine but the Nav system works surprisingly well... For the price it is a great bike, sure it needs a lot of things but then the price goes up. I was looking at KLR's and the couple grand price difference persuaded me to try the RE. Glad I got it but I am 6'2" and had to change the seat out and Spite you are correct a flat dirtbike styled seadtwould be so much better... there are options out there.

I did the cam upgrade with a 16t sproket an it is a different machine. Rpm's much lower at higher speeds. It'll cruise at 70mph all day and w/ the cam has passing power. I have the RE panniers from Baxter cycles and its an awesome touring motorcycle. Get a 411 while you can!

I've been riding an off the showroom floor 2021 meteor 350 for about 3 months now and it's a brilliant bike. Very dependable and even capable of mid range touring. I'm looking next at the 2023 super meteor 650, which I'll be using for long range tours. The himalayan is next on the list for camping. Royal Enfield is great quality for such a low price point.

Did a day ride with a friend the other day of around 190 miles (~300kms) I was on my 750, my friend was on a 125cc, it was more than enough for the light tour that we did, super fun! The super Meteor, it's such an eye candy, really dig the look! (super heavy though, but it has no sporting intentions and the low seat help it's case)

Not serious off road? Itchy Boots rode the Himalayn off road from India to Malaysia to Oman to Central Asia to Russia to the Balkans and up to Holland. 36000 km. Then Buenos Aires to the Southern tip of America to Chili to Bolivia to Peru, only ending because of Covid. And you state not serious off road? Really?

You can adjust the idle.Lift the tank and there is an adjustment screw.Turn counter-clockwise to increase.

Trust me this really good entry level Adventure Bike. I own a Interceptor 650 but in my Biker group there are Himalayan owners who have ridden bike in all weather conditions and climate from Leh Ladkah in Himalayas to heavy raining area. Bike performed really well on more than 1500 kms oneway. First launch batch had issues but all those has been fixed from BS-6 Model. One cannot compare with Ducati, Triump or BMW. Its all. about mindset and no bike is perfect. It is skill of rider that matter. RE bikes are practicle and easy to maintain and less money is spent. Looking ahead for such good content.

Great vid...10,000 mile Himi owner and I can tell you the stalling problem is likely the TPS voltage. Boost it a bit and the startup will smooth right out. Enjoy!

Man.... Himalayan sounds about perfect for my situation - moderately experienced road rider, a bit short (5'8") and both looking to step up a bit for on road bikes, but also dip my toes into adventure bike riding. Sounds like a great first adv bike for me, but I'll probably "outgrow" it fairly fast.... however.... the Mrs also wants to try biking for the first time too - shes a touch shorter and much lighter ofc, but this is about as small as can be for a real adv bike it seems. But anyways, she's out on work for a few months still.... perfect excuse for me to try this little guy out, enjoy it, outgrow it, then pass it on to the Mrs for her first bike - everyone wins heheh

I got a himalayan as my begginer bike. Never once road a motorcycle and I drove it home the day I bought it. It sits very comfortably in the standard sitting position, the lean angle is really high because it's higher off the ground, it's not built for super speed but tops out at 75mph which is all you really need and holds up well against bump in the road. I mounted ammo cans on mine 30 cals in the front and 50 cals in the rear. I will be getting a triumph thruxton as my next bike and will be replacing the himalayan with a better long distance bike after I pay off the thruxton. Reason I want to replace the himalayan is because I will eventually want the loud grumble aesthetic of a traditional motorcycle, and want the option to over take if needed.

For new riders who want an ADV here in Europe with an A2 license, the Himalayan looks like a great option. But that does seem to be the niche that RE have carved out for themselves; cheap and actually cheerful, with the full awareness that the brand is not going to give most Western riders their forever-bike. But to be honest, I do think we need more bikes like that.

I bought a new 22 Himalayan last year . In America, the 23 model is coming here. I bought Tusk Explorer soft luggage with the medium size center bag. More than enough for a long weekend. I think it handles well . I am thinking of getting a 16 tooth sprocket to bring the top speed a little faster . I'm seeing it's very dependable by people like Noraly from Itchy Boots. With the right tires, it's great for off road

Neat motorcycle. You can adjust the valves in an hour. Lots of buggy stuff though. Installed booster plug to spoof the ECM and NGK plug together helped shitty cold start issue. Installed camshaft and air box mod searching for power. Shinko tires for better off road grip. So much red loctite on the handle bar risers from the factory it took three men an a small boy to remove galled bolts. Fasteners are all cheap. Motor sounds like marbles in a coffee can. Sold it to someone thrilled to buy one.

Presently, I ride a Harley Road King, the result being, I am confined to the pavement. If I bought a bike for off road, it would only be for gravel roads, not rough trail rides, no single trails with terrible rocks or deep, crazy mud hills or bogs…sheesh. I’ll leave the hard stuff for the youngsters. I know absolutely nothing about the multiple mods possible for off-roading. I don’t mind learning. Thanks for the review…from an old man, retired in east Tennessee.

A very fair road test. Thanks! Regarding your criticisms: 1. Most people aren't 6'2" so the bike's ergonomics are perfect for the majority. Ditto weight, not that I'm saying you're fat of course :-) 2. The brakes can be sharpened up greatly with a set of Ferodo pads. An inexpensive mod. 3. Our speed limit is 100kph (62mph) which means it is just fine on our highways, and this would be true for a long list of countries that don't have the US's road network.

Had one as my first bike. It was awesome to learn, especially cause it's so tame. Still love it and rented one last week to go off-roading (kinda cracked a bone in my foot when I dropped it on it). About the idle adjustment, there are adjustment screws under the seat, if I'm not mistaken. Would definitely have one as my second bike nowadays, but I like having a bit more power now. And I agree with you about the suspension. I weigh about the same as you do, and I think it squats a bit too much for me. All in all, good fun for a beginner, and not dangerous at all, I'd say.

Change disc pads, change to some decent shinko rubber and run front about 29 psi, 34 in the rear. I can get the abs chattering on the front quite easily now. I'm 6'3" and 350 lbs. Pulls to red line in top gear now on a calm day. Takes 3,000 miles to fully run in.

With an upgraded intake and exhaust and the TEC camshaft you can get 29 hp and 29 foot pound torque if you’re handy enough to do that camshaft upgrade I think it’s definitely worth it. Thankfully I was able to find a used 2019 with all those upgrades for $4000. Even better than new!

I just sold my Harley Ultra Ltd and my Suzuki SV1000S. I won't miss the Harley, even though it was a very competent bike, because I'm just so done with big heavy bikes. I will really miss the SV, but honestly, the power of even an older litrebike is something that makes you always feel like you have to be CAREFUL. I moved to Mexico (why I sold those bikes) and now I want something to just go exploring on, something that I won't always feel like I need to be CAREFUL, and can just have fun with. I made up my mind to buy this bike and then forever bitch about the power, when voila! they offer a new 450 version with almost double the power. Make mine a 450 Himalayan please.

Modern singles idle @ up to 1500, real old school singles not so much. I thought even my DR was idling way too high compared with singles of my youth. Looks like a steady, capable bike. Fast enough, goes most places. Exactly why I bought a DR. And fun? Yes, you can have heaps of fun on simple, small bikes. I've had some big fast fun bikes, but the most fun has been on the slower small bikes. I can ride a little bike flat out, without worrying about doing time!

You need to check the throttle position sensor voltage. Voltage should be 0.75 Then you can adjust the idle as well. Idle screw is under the tank on top of the throttle body.

I have a Himalayan 2022 and the handling was massively improved with tires change. I got it a pair of Shinko 705 and it be came so much lighter and flickier at the twisties. Off-road got a bit better too. Imagine if I had gotten top tier tires. :) Greetings from Mexico!
