The pride did better than I thought! I've been around the 2 amp versions the most. I used one for vacuuming pews at my old church, back when I cleaned it. No problems with it other than the bag would occasionally slip off. My Grandpa had one as well, and I used it to vacuum the pool table. It worked wonderfully for that application.

That was a great test. Minus the China Pride™.

I got in my collection a Panasonic jet flo MC-1060 hand vac from 1986. I found the vacuum in my grandma's shed in the original box. The brush plate was really rusty so it got sandblasted and painted black(original color was crome). A lot of cleaning and new belt brought the MC-1060 back to life again. This vacuum was pretty feature packed containing a head lamp, hard floor brush accessory, and two speed motor. The box still has the price tag from JCPenney and the price was $65 in 1986. With inflation that would be $161 for this vacuum in todays money.

I scored the Royal Prince Model 501 from the Estate Sale for $4 right before you post the video. Even though I still happen to have a Dirt Devil Model 103, and they are all American Made handheld vacuum cleaner. =)

If there is but one version of the 501 that you might be looking for, it's the Dirt Devil model 501D Deluxe... it was the only all-metal Dirt Devil hand vacuum and it was only sold for a short time in the early 1990s.

It did exist! I remember seeing what I thought was a Royal Prince 501, but marked Dirt Devil, back when I was in middle school. I haven't seen one since, or heard anyone mention it, but it did exist!

Have the same red Dirt Devil. Got for $2 at a flea market and I use it to vac my carpeted stairs.

I remember you had a 1978 model 501 (built for the 1979 model year), that you sold later for $50.

I believe why the 157 came in third is because of the smaller opening on the plate. Maybe swap plates with that 501 and see if the 501 can still pull the can away from the 157. I'll actually try this myself when I get a 157. I don't think the 157 having less amps than the 501 will make much of a difference, but we'll see.

I did this as well with my new and old dirt devil hand vacs and the one won and here's. The older ones have direct air motor, and new ones have a bypass motor.

My mother had the red 2 amp Dirt Devil and I'd use it to vacuum the stairs. Had it forever until it got water damaged and the bag wore through from use. Occasionally the bag would slip off too.

Do you know what style belts the Dirt Devil 103 uses?

Models 157 and 501 also use the belt type you describe.

I’m going to find a 501. Should not be surprised, as new stuff is cheaply made. All marketing not practicality .

The old direct air machines were awesome to say the least. That’s why my vacuum “collection” has two Kirby vacuums, a Heritage II Legend and a Generation 3. as I also have two Rainbow units, a D4 and an E2 Black. These are the best cleaning machines in my tool kit. I mean, I also have a central vacuum and my roadside find Ridgid wet and dry vacuum cleaner. All of these machines I found second hand and each have their own advantages.

To be fair modern vacuums don't have the same scrutiny as new washing machines or refrigerators. They may need to work a little harder but they still get the job done. Just don't bang it around or throw it down the stairs and your Chinese vacuum will last as long as the Chinese Coronavirus.
@user-vacgod27393 жыл бұрын
But they lack a direct air motor.

I love the Royal 501. I'm selling mine, but that's only because the bags and belts are getting hard to find, and the Sidekick electric stairs tool on my Electrolux does the same job. But they're awesome!

I have always wondered why newer vacuums say they take so much power... like a lot of the cheap ones boast about being 12 amps, that is stupid. my kirbys are only like 4 amps and will outperform every one of them the question is, do the new motors in the new vacuums really draw as much current as they claim they do? because if they do they must be really inefficient because they don't work worth a crap. so once again the old stuff is not inefficient like everyone has been brainwashed to believe.
@ArbokLover16183 жыл бұрын
The 501 is mostly metal and better ventilated than the Dirt Devil classic, but I have to say that the older units all win against the classics with quality builds and better performance for pet hair.

I am gonna get the Royal 501. I admit that I definitely did underestimate China Pride™ in this video. I still don't want that China Pride™. I still enjoy watching the video where Harley took apart that Bissell Ningbo Defeng China Pride™ motor.

Wow I didnt realise that was from the 1930s for that I figured fairly modern like for what it is worth I figured at earliest maybe 1960s but probably 1970s and 1980s then the blue from late 1980s etc for what it is worth.
