Wow...thats awesome Every jiu jitsu practioner should watch this Unfortunately, a lot of fighters care about his belt color even more than the knowledge. Before I got my black belt, I realize I was in a different but wrong way. When I got the brown belt I became worried because I taught the black belt was the final chapter and I wasnt prepared. But after a long time, I realize the black belt is just the beginning. My final message: dont worry about your belt color. Always wear it with pride. Respect everyone and give always your best. And most important of all: Dont try to prove yourself to others, prove yourself to you, being a good example for the next generations and honoring your masters Thank you

Historically gracie jiujitsu was just a made up art by these guys who took a few classes and started their own business. Overtime techniques would get better obviously through training and resources from books at that time...also frequent challenge matches. Obviously they work because Judo works lol. Just goes to show you with enough actual training you can learn indirectly. After all they were never Dan rank holders under Maeda or any Judoka which is what gjj/bjj really is hence the gi etc.

Carzo Parazzo I’m not gonna argue about techniques because like I said Judo works. Wrestling works. Need examples? Kimura or Sakuraba. Notice how the gracies make up excuses or back stories whenever those matches come up. Also I’m not going to take away credit from the gracies, I’m just here to help lay out some truth. Originally this whole thing was a Japanese engineered art/system adopted and essentially “remixed” to the gracie taste. From then on it drew in from other grappling arts/systems plus experience from full contact matches making it even more dynamic and progressive as we know and love today. My main point is that bjj/gjj is a bit silly when you wanna talk tradition and origins when you can’t even go back into the Japanese side of it with notable names not just Maeda but Kano etc. Kano was the one who organized the classical Samurai grade Jujutsu into Judo. The gracies never learned that pedigree of Jujutsu (Samurai) , if so then they would have knowledge of swordsmanship because that’s what Jujutsu was mainly developed for in the first place. Also if the gracies were in fact trained in “Japanese Jujutsu” (Samurai) then they would have known basic takedowns like throws and sweeps easily found in Judo as well as wrist indexing methods for wrist manipulation, again for the blade or Katana aspect. There’s a reason why many old school Jujutsu looks the same because of the sword... also if they surely did train classical Jujutsu they would have also worn a Hakama in practice like Aikidoka. BTW Aikido is based off classical Jujutsu . Correct me if I’m wrong but some people who have something to say still can’t distinguish a gi from a kimono, Judo from Jujutsu. These same people probably don’t even understand the meaning of the gi and the Japanese Dan ranking system or just the culture in general yet it is exploited and pretty much appropriated for commercial or fashion trends Btw I also train in bjj but I just have a thing for history and Japanese culture

I don't like Royce. Respect to him for UFC, but he's said some very stupid things over the years. About 4 years ago, a couple of his family members had lost their mma fights, and he berated them publicly, said they were idiots for diluting their jiu-jitsu by training in striking, and how he was an all time great because his jiu jitsu was pure. He failed to mention how the first UFC was stacked in his favor.
@jackreacher44885 жыл бұрын
@Whammer79 I'm not saying he wasn't good, but they definitely stacked the odds in his favor. They could have had him fight Telia Tuli, the sumo wrestler, but his jiu jitsu would have been severely impeded. Shamrock wasn't much of a challenge, the fight didn't last 5 minutes. They could have found a decent wrestler that could have defended a double take down. UFC 1 was about showing north America the effectiveness of bjj. It's very effective, but they didn't get any catch wrestlers, or decent strikers for a reason.

@Whammer79 Royce defeated Severn in the event where Severn refused to strike anyone, he almost won that night using only wrestling. Here's my 2 cents. Royce is a legend, not only does his skill in GJJ earn him that title, but the fact that he demonstrated the art of BJJ to the world and put his life on the line countless times is the reason why so many people (including myself) practice it to this day. Personally though, I think the guy is a hypocrite and generally the more I hear about him the less I like. He's famously arrogant, been caught cheating multiple times (either by using PEDS or just general Gracie rule bending) and is incredibly deprecating of the achievements of others in the JJ community who demonstrably have either revolutionised or improved the art as a whole. But then again many Gracies are the same, just do some internet searching and you'll quickly find that the so called humble nature/beginnings of the whole family is a complete fabrication. For decades in Brazil they often acted no higher than petty thugs, throwing their weight around and bullying others. Of course you can't generalise an entire family, but look up some of the stories involving Royce, Renzo, Ryan, Ralph, Relson, Royler, Rickson and many others; and you'll be quite shocked.
