Here's proof that a voice fit for Opera, too often ignored when expressed, can bring much joy to many because with it comes the heartfelt telling of a story. The simplicity with which a master uses voice is enjoyed by many. Bravo!

It just does not get any better than Roy Orbison. He is the only singer ever who could take the stage and completely captivate the audience with that 5 octave range in his voice. Roy is and was the only entertainer who only sang and everyone loved him. In one of his interviews he stated that he sang and the audience listened and he was telling the truth.

George Harrison in an interview about his time in the Traveling Wilburys spoke of how hard it was for him to focus on what he was doing with the shivers up his spine from that incredible voice right next to him. This from someone who held his place alongside Lennon and McCartney. It doesn't get any better than that.

nealbfinn .......yes, Roy’s voice improved with the years, as incredible as that is and he was always a heavy smoker! To think this performance was a little over a year before Roy died (far too young) is amazing. Knowing he endured such immense personal heartache makes *everything* about Roy special and that stunningly beautiful voice all the more “haunting”.

you know it! when he came on my World stopped and listened to such an incredible voice that nobody seemed to really get a handle on.. incredibly UNDERRATED. Elvis got all the attention but Roy's voice was in a class all by itself. Incredible range and enunciation.. and don't forget about his unmatched emotion. Nobody and I mean NOBODY sang quite like this guy... why are such great artists like this so humble as well? RIP, Roy and hope to meet you on the other side...

@@leecowell8165 there's something I've come to learn in this world. The truly greatest at anything will never tell you how great they are. That's why it's so hard to find them. Braggarts more often make it in this world because they do a better job at selling themselves. The truly great don't need to tell you how great they are but you have to be looking to see it. Often the greatest things are those right in front of you that you hadn't paid attention to. I think such is the case with Orbison. Think about him in a league with the likes of Elvis, Cash, Perkins, and Lewis. Those guys were great in their own right (and I love them all) but Orbison stood on raw talent alone without the outsized personality.

One thing about his voice is that he can go into falsetto seamlessly, without a break....but I think he did this entire song natural, without the use of falsetto.

I am so glad that "Black and White Night" was done. They meticulously captured the feeling of the original arrangements and Roy's voice was (and this is hard to believe) somehow even better. When he hit those first high notes and the beginning of the song, they switched the camera to the bass player who gave a slight shake of his heard. I always think that he was thinking to himself, "How does hit those notes so easily?"

This is such a classic Roy Orbison song, love it, listen to every word! I was a lucky girl to be raised listening to this type of music. I used to dance skate to this smooth song.

The ultimate song/ballad of a man simply pouring out the last drop of his heart for a woman, long gone, he knows not worth it, but he still pines away for her. Lots of power and luck----luck he did not have.
