I put a steel ceiling in my 42x64 Morton building all by myself using all the techniques learned from watching your videos. I did the 3 sheet stagger, F&J trim, working back to front, roofing gun to nail the end sheet, etc. I did not do the air deflectors however, because I was putting in R38 batts as I went for insulation. Wrangling 16 foot sheets with a drywall lift on the JLG lift by yourself SUCKS BTW. I also pre-wired for LED lights and ceiling fans too. It was a TON of work for one guy who had never done it before, but I got 'er done and it looks great! I want to thank you for all the knowledge that you share, because my project would have not have turned out nearly as well if I had not watched your vids 1st. Thank you Kyle!

On your shop build if you could give sidewall overhead door header details. As in do you use a truss carrier style header and just box in directly over the door or do you use a structural door header that posts rise from to support the trusses independently??

My builders used styrofoam insulation deflectors for the soffits....many of them fell down in the 3-4 months before insulation was blown in. I asked that they staple them back up prior to insulating. It wasn't a fun job for that guy. I didn't feel too bad since it was the same crew blowing the insulation, and I had recommended RR's tyvek method before they built the barn.

You always do a bang up job cutting the trim pieces with your red and green scissors. It is never that clear exactly how you do that so nicely so I wonder if you could run a class on that. there is probably a limited number of corners or and trims and you might be able to lay it out and show exactly how you do it. I just did some of my ceiling in my shop, mostly by myself. Bright white metal looks so good and the end result is very gratifying. It was a pain in the ass but i figured out a safe way to do it with a drywall lift. I always like to check out your videos, usually AFTER I did my work! 😂

I would personally use 2 equal length sheet with a single joint in the middle. It's not hard staying straight, you just start the first row with a chalk line than put a mark every 3' on each end and at the middle truss/purlin. I get that it's much easier to stick with 16' sheets, but it wont look as good. I'm also skeptical with only putting screws every 8', especially when there's insulation on top. Most manufacturers recommends support every 4' or less. Judging by the way the metal comes up when you a put a screw in between the truss, that metal is going to bow down once the insulation is on top. You might not be able to see it now, but once the lights are installed, it might create some weird shadows.

Perfect timing for me! I'm looking at ceiling options for a barn to woodworking shop conversion. You taught me how to side last year and I tore it down to frame and resided the exterior after watching your videos (including adding new service doors and windows). I just rewired the ceiling for new lights and was looking at options for ceiling material. This clinched it. Thank you!

Great work practices Greg and Kyle. You guys are always measuring twice and focused on the initial layout to be square and level so that the final build has the least amount of error factors. One thing I am still trying to figure out is how you seal up the base between the ground level and lower sill on this style vs. concrete stem walls. Looking forward to your "main office" building project.

How far down (distance in Feet/inches) do you put your top purlin down from the peak of the truss and how do you work out the spacing of the purlins from there. In that I mean do you lay the purlins on center from the peak or on center from the first purlin down from the peak. OR do you lay the roof purlins our from the soffit up???

Do you use drip stop roof metal when you’re putting an insulated/vapor barrier ceiling in? I’m looking at building a 40x64x20 with an insulated ceiling (I’ll do walls/wall insulation at a later date) it’s almost $1,000 for drip stop roof metal and why buy something that isn’t needed but also would hate to cheap out on something for $1,000 in the overall scheme of things. Thanks!
