I have been a parts guy at a Ford dealer for over 20 years. I am currently in the market for a 2.7 truck as well. We have far less issues with the 2.7 than the 3.5. I test drove one for the first time the other day with 150k on it. And wow, techs have told me they are quick, but its extremely impressive for such a small motor! My bro had one, on the highway he would average 28 mpg, but he also drives like our dad lol... Its either a 5.0 or a 2.7 for me, but I would prefer the 2.7 for the mileage.

That’s a nice truck,still can’t believe you had to pay 19k to get a 230k mile 6-7 year old truck .I always look at the engine hours as well as miles if the cluster has both,and yours does….how many engine hours are on it? That’s a better indicator or what life is left than miles….at work where I’m a mechanic the fleet I maintain we typically get 13000-16000 engine hours out of our GM 6.0 gas engines before the body rots off the frames and we sell them. I have 13 in my fleet and never lost an engine or had a valve cover off, I change our oil w full synthetic Dexos oil every 3000 miles at which time the truck is usually under 10 percent oil life left on the dash. Our trucks idle a lot being highway dept vehicles it’s not unusual to have 5-650 hours on the oil at oil change time..

Just watched your video on your 2015 Ford F-150 2.7L. Thanks. I'm in the market for the exact same thing. This video was made over a year ago and I did not see a follow-up in your list. Did you sell the truck or just lose interest. Two questions, would you buy this truck again with that many miles on it or was that too many. please comment on any problems you had over the last year with this truck. Thanks again

I don't know whether you've pursued a limited slip differential, but you probably already have a locking rear diff if you pull the 4x4 selection knob out. Couple the locking differential with the 4x4 high/low modes and the traction control modes, I doubt you'd see much value from one .

Thanks for the info I got a 2017 2.7 myself that I got with 80,000 miles I was afraid at the beginning and wanted to trade it for 5.0 but the more videos I see about common problems the better I feel. All vehicles are subject to issues. Once you know about them, you can address them and do the best to prevent. Thanks about the cats can’t I did not know that what helps with the carbon buildup and as far as the issues with the cams and those models they say if you Change the oil more frequently instead of relying on the computer to tell you. A. And as far as the oil pan, leak they have a metal one that I pretty much solve the leaking oil pan issue.

The turbos do not lose near the power but they do lose cooling capacity so be careful on the upgrades not to oversaturate the engine with heat. Give her a rest!

I bought my 2016 F165 new and I just paid it off December 13th 2022. It has 87k miles and I had one engine problem. The cylinder head temp sensor went bad (po1299) @ 69k. I use Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend oil and filter. I change it when the oil life meter get to 18%. I used my truck for Lyft for 15k miles and was able to get 19 mpg city. You have to drive like an old lady to get that. It will get 26 mpg on the hwy if you drive 68 mph. I have towed a 96 4x4 Tahoe on a Uhaul trailer before (7,300 lbs). It has more power than you need. I used HP Tuner to raise the top limiter to 120 mph a few months ago and the truck will get there faster than it should. For some reason the stop/start stopped working after the tune.
@paulhunter961311 ай бұрын
When you rented that uhaul trailer and hauled the Tahoe how did the truck handle the weight? Ford says to use a weight distribution hitch over a 5000 tow. I’m pretty sure uhaul trailers don’t have that setup on them
@blackericdenice11 ай бұрын
@@paulhunter9613 I could not go pass 60 mph without swaying.
@paulhunter961311 ай бұрын
@@blackericdenice I wonder if some of that sway was from not enuf weight on the hitch, I’ve had that problem before with another truck I towed with. Did you have LT tires on the truck? When towing with my other truck it was rated to to over 8000 lb but the factory puts on tires that aren’t even rated to tow that kind of a load, just crappy 4 ply sidewall tires. I upgraded to a 10 ply tire and it made a huge difference
@blackericdenice11 ай бұрын
@@paulhunter9613 Ford have to put tires rated for the truck tow rate. The truck had enough weight on the hitch.

Im looking at 1 of these just because of mpg. Honestly i dont trust ford at all for reliability especially high mileage so im looming in to these videos. I currently own a 2008 tundra 5.7 4x4 crewmax with about 420k all original just basic maintenance . its my work truck. Only get 11 mpg which with todays gas prices is not ideal. Any of u ford guys know what kind of repairs i will be in for buying a 2016 ford f150 ecoboost with 80k miles on it especially over time?
@Brandon_Nelson922 жыл бұрын
My dad and I both have 3.5 ecoboost f150s and both have been the best trucks we've ever had. I also know plenty of people with 3.5 and 2.7 ecoboost f150s. Both the 2.7 and 3.5 ecoboost are great engines that last well over 200k when maintained. They are built very stout. Both engines are hard on oil (but not known for burning oil), so 5k or sooner oil changes are recommended. If you can manage to resist temptation and stay out of boost, 20mpg+ is very doable at factory ride height. I get 22-23mpg driving my 2019 3.5 ecoboost in light traffic. My lifetime average is 20.6mpg and it gets about 16mpg when driven with no regard for fuel economy. I expect to lose about 2mpg overall when I switch from stock to heavier, slightly bigger 10 ply all-terrain tires. I have coworkers that get 12-14mpg driving their 3.5s on 35" tires.
@Brandon_Nelson922 жыл бұрын
I also know of a few 300k+ mile ecoboost f150s that have had little to no engine problems along the way. The common trend for ecoboost longevity is 5k oil changes or before the oil life moniter hits 30-40%. Also, spark plugs every 50-60k miles. Fuel economy gets significantly worse with worn out plugs. They are relatively cheap and very easy to replace on these engines. Towing does not seem to impact longevity. I know of a 2012 3.5 ecoboost f150 that tows 70% of the time and had 391k miles the last time I saw it. Original engine, original transmission and drivetrain. He uses a strict 5k oil change and 50k spark plugs and all other fluids routine. Still gets just over 20mpg when not towing.

@jd-it4on You say you don’t trust ford at all for reliability, so why are you even asking about one?
@dagabbagool2600 Жыл бұрын
Ford's 4WD system must have a lot of lost efficiency as 2wd 2.7's easily do 25mpg on highway, with 3.5's not far behind.

My 2.7, 2wd ‘18 supercrew, 3.55 gear got 24.2, 25.4, then 26mpg on a 1300 mi trip this yr. Hand calculated as the dash figure is off what the true mpg is

Looking forward to more videos on this truck. Do you have the maintenance and service records, do you know if the turbos on the truck have ever been replaced?
@JohnDiMartino3 жыл бұрын
Why would the turbos be replaced? I bet you it’s all original, turbo failures are rare, if it was fleet maintained well, it should be able to go a lot longer. There are 2.7s with 3-400k plus and never been touched .They are a great engine that’s built to last a long time with proper maintenance.
@yousufkan69603 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDiMartino I agree they are very well built engines. I own one. I was just curious to know if the turbos which is what most say is the biggest failure point had been replaced on his since it’s high mileage. So I can get a understanding of how long my own turbos can potentially last.
