There was a follow up to this post. The babysitter contacted the CB's husband at work and he agreed to pay her, saying something like "I wish she would stop doing this." Her sister reported that he had planned to come over the next day with the cash. If I had been the babysitter, I would have spread the word in the neighborhood so she couldn't find anyone to babysit unless she paid in advance. Then I still would have demanded her engagement ring as collateral in case she stayed out later.

Fun fact: Threatening to sue someone without grounds to sue, especially to get somebody to do something you want, can result in Coercion charges, and repeatedly calling someone the R word is Slander. She said that her *interest* in buying it automatically meant it was legally hers. The man said no several times when she asked to have it for 400~. Even if a verbal contract is legally binding, there was no agreement here. For reference, here are the elements of a Legally Binding Verbal Contract: Offer and Acceptance: an offer is made by one party which is accepted by another, e.g. the aunt offers to loan $200 to her nephew to get a new tire, he accepts the money with the promise to pay her back in full at a later date. Lawful Purpose: the purpose of the contract must be lawful, e.g. the aunt can create a verbal loan agreement with her nephew so he can get a new tire, but she can’t give him money to do something illegal like steal her neighbor’s TV and have it considered an enforceable contract. That's exactly what I thought! Here in Finland that is enough ground for a lawsuit, it's a contract agreed on by both parties and these texts are enough proof to solidify the case. There's been a massive increase in people trying to buy American made Fenders for well below retail price on r/CB. If you're buying a first guitar for a kid get a Yamaha Pacifica or a Squier Affinity, if you want something a bit more then spend up a little bit for a Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe; no kid needs an American Standard for their first guitar, and it'll definitely be a huge waste of money if they decide to give up on it.

I had a guy who bought a 3D TV from me, I sold it way under price and when he came he said to me "These TVs sometimes have issues and the screens can get this noise effect". Basically what you get with a damaged cable or something. I told him I had been using that TV for years, every single day and never had that issue. He bought the TV from me and 2 weeks later he said the issue I descriped above happened to him and he wanted his money back. I knew it wasn't the TV because I always take good care of my electronics, because they're expensive. I told him no but I can try to help him fix the issue. He absolutely flipped at me and started threatening me. I said just try removing all the HDMI cables from the TV and check if the issue persists, if it doesnt persist it isn't the TV. I never heard from him after that message. The weird thing was there another person messaging me and he didn't want to buy the TV but just wanted to point out the issue I descriped, I think it's the same person. Very weird, I let the ad up and got way better offers too, the whole deal sucked and I don't think I'll ever sell things second hand again.

That one about the $300 coffee is hilarious. I had an experience like that once. I’m a tax law specialist and one lady told me that if I did her tax return (for free) and got her at least a $10,000 refund she would ‘allow me’ to buy her dinner. I said that this seemed more than a bit one sided, and shouldn’t she pay for dinner if that’s the case. Her response was that ‘my payment was being seen in public with her’.

I honestly would have given her my contact info so she could sue me. I don't know if American law accepts "verbal contract" as a ground for legal binding, but it's also clear that not even a verbal contract was made. She said she would buy the guitar, which initiated the contract, but was denied based on the grounds of inadequate price, so the contract was not formed. If this went to court, the judge would possibly piss himself/herself laughing at the stupidity of the woman, and she would be left with paying all charges since she obviously would not be able to win a case like this.

Aadem only a few states accept verbal contracts and they aren’t enforceable in court. Anyway it wasn’t even a verbal contract since he said NO several times.

How in any Universe is that an emergency?!? If you called the police for such an idiotic reason you are likely to get charged for wasting their time. All of these examples are civil cases, not criminal cases, for which you would need to hire a lawyer and go to court. Considering the tiny amount of money involved it is v unlikely to be worth your time though. Instead The babysitter should take it as a learning experience and ask for the money (or at least half of it) up front.

4:36 ok so I did some research, verbal contracting in sales only works if the seller agrees to sell it for his nonnegotiable price to the buyer, and thay still have the property and sees the buyer is being difficult or unreasonable has every right to decline the offer, the one selling the guitar wants to sell it at full price ($1200) and CB wants it for less then half off and won't take NO for an answer
