Jay, Should I upgrade my 1660 super to a RX5700XT?
@danko2927
@danko2927 3 жыл бұрын
I own a 5700xt strix, don't buy it, I'm gonna sell mine and buy the new 6000 series once the aib cards launch and are in stock. My experience with the 5700xt has been pretty disappointing, if you do buy 5700xt make sure it's not a 2nd tier AMD partner like Asus, MSI, etc, get Sapphire, it's the best.

I agree with the other guy. The 1660 super is not that much worse than a RX5700XT. You'll see slightly better frames, but it won't make a huge difference. You're better off just waiting for the next gen cards in your price bracket to be available.

Ram Mhz ... I think you mean megatransfers per second (MT/s) ....
@potentialbreakfast
@potentialbreakfast 3 жыл бұрын
and before people comment saying it is the same thing ... no it is not. Mega Transfers Per Second is a measurement of bus and channel speed in millions of “effective” cycles per second. While, Megahertz means one million cycles per second and is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices. You'll notice memory is not listed as "2133 MHz", usually it's just "DDR3 2133". That is because it doesn't actually operate at 2133 MHz, it operates at 1066.6 MHz, but because it's DDR it does two operations per cycle, so it's as if it were 2133 MHz, but it technically isn't. So the proper unit to use would be 2133 MT/s which is the actual number of transfer operations that occur rather than the frequency, since those are no longer the same number with DDR memory.

That is crazy, thats a different calculation then what I was taught, but it works just as well. Still trying to figure out why it works both ways, but I know its just math. Your way might be easier. Here is the way I was taught: Ram Nano Second Timings Calc Equation (1 ÷ {Half of Ram Clock Speed in Ghz}) x [Cas Latency Timing] = Time in Nano Seconds to complete. So Using Jay's initial 2 Examples of CL18 at 3866 and 4000. (1 ÷ 1.933) x 18 = nano seconds = 9.312 nano Seconds as opposed to the same Ram Kit running at 4000Mhz at CL18 (1 ÷ 2) x 18 = 9 Nano Seconds Both the Technique shown by Jay in the Video, and the Technique I learned ages ago work for this calculation as you arrive at the same result, I just wish my brain would snap out of it and figure out why both ways work... NVM. Just figured it out. It works because both ways arrive at the same multiplier. So if you take 2000 ÷ 4000 you end at .5 the same as if you take 1 ÷ 2. Or if you take 1 ÷ 1.933 You end up at 0.5173305742369374 the same as if you take 2000 ÷ 3866. So it literally doesn't matter which way you use, they both end up with the same multiplier before multiplying by CAS Latency. In that case I think I will start to use Jays Method instead, as its much easier to just start at 2000 no matter what, and divide by the The Ram Speed in Megatransfers as opposed to having to always figure out half of the ram speed and converting to Gigahertz. Learn something new every day! Love it!

I like watching the overclocking the way some car guys like watching racing (am a bit of a car guy, sometimes even watch racing, so stop mocking me, _Jay_ ). It's like, "How far _can_ they go with it?" Also, unpaid and no affiliation, I *wish* I needed more iFixIt stuff, I love the kits I've gotten so far and they're the reason my laptop is in as good a shape as it is. I can recommend their stuff and their support of "Right to Repair" is becoming more and more important every day!

I would love a like 20 minute video of just Jay talking about Ram, going into detail explaining how it all ties together, what speeds are best for what CPU, just a full deep dive. An End of 2020 series for explaining CPU, GPU, Ram, Motherboards, whole 9. Looking at what pairs well with what, how to overclock step by step, and the advantages of one vs the other. That would be amazing.
Is this the future for PC? Back Connect / BTF is CLEAN AF!
