It was attempted murder, so many of the things they were doing to those kids. Food and water deprivation, extenuating physical activity outdoors in the scorching heat, throwing into cacti, waterboarding, the bondage torture that caused injuries down to the bone. She once found out one of the small children was hanging on their hands after falling into a hole next to the house , she started to film , not helping the child but film ! That happened way before Jodi . They did all this to get the bad or evil out of the children they said, And do not forget that Jodi did this to Jessie years ago with the help and on the payroll of the LDS church , they love brainwashing . Next to that Kevin was in on this for years . also that Pam woman who was watchdog over Jessie , she played innocent on that vid like Kevin and the church but man this is such a pandora's box

I’m a behavioural psychologist & I’ve worked in child safety for several years & this horror & abuse of these children is so devastating; I can’t imagine Ruby’s mindset allowing Jodi torture these darling children. Ruby has always had very problematic & abusive parenting & Kevin was at least complicit in the ongoing abuse of all of their children & he needs to be investigated & punished - at the very least KF tolerated & accommodated Ruby’s Dickensian child “raising”. I’m actually astonished that RF survived & had the immense internal fortitude to escape from his torturous existence & that he was so brave he was able to get help for himself & his sister. I’m certain that RF & EF would have died if they were subjected to more torture meted out by Ruby & Jodi. Apart from the Franke children & those people who have come forward throughout this investigation, who knows how many other people have endured & suffered Jodi’s loathsome wrath & completely deranged “treatment”. Rubi Franke was never a mother; she was a narcissistic sociopath who abused her children for social media clout & her husband is equally responsible

I think Jodi Hildebrandt was sort of the anti-therapist. In a good therapy relationship, the therapist helps the client realize the best of themselves. Jodi coached people into bringing strengthening their worst traits. It is like she took someone with narcissistic or antisocial tendencies and helped them develop the negative traits
@brandonwilliams4050 Жыл бұрын
"Anti therapist" is a hauntingly accurate way to describe Jodi Hildebrandt. Perhaps it's because I don't really follow a lot of so called "true crime" but I am truly flabbergasted by this woman and what she has gotten away with and the web of pain and misery she has caught so many victims inside of. Learning about her and all of this coming to light feels like history being made, and not in a good way. Like how people must have felt following the discovery and trials of the infamous serial murderers or other historic criminals in real time.

To be honest, not only do the details of what torture those children went through deeply disturb & upset me because that kind of depraved behavior should be upsetting, but also because FOR YEARS Ruby not only got away with it, she GOT PAID & PRAISED while being that kind of person- Those children get to go through life with a reality of their parents abusing them, that people subscribed & enjoyed watching videos of the “perfect family” you never actually had, that companies & brands paid them, that there were some people who saw & tried to help, but millions of other people defended your parents & idolized them. My heart hurts for all of those children- even Ruby’s siblings’ children- they always deserved to feel loved & safe

I have a tendency to be an overly diplomatic person which I'm working on and I worked in childcare and education for many years. Though I DO NOT condone abuse in ANY FORM I also do understand some discipline coming from some parents in some cases. Every kid is different, different things work for different kids, if you've been around kids enough as an authority figure you understand what I mean. Even with that said, this could NEVER even be MISTAKEN for discipline EVER in ANY circumstance.

Being a therapist seems so challenging. How do you treat sadism?!? How do you hold unconditional positive regard for someone who enjoys torturing their own children and reveling in it online for all to see?! And what’s worse is that sentencing is usually more lenient when it’s parent to child violence vs. adult to non-related child. I guess that’s good news for Jodi’s sentencing but it really seems like it should be the opposite.

In Jodi’s case, I honestly think she just enjoys hurting children and has thrown her pseudo religiosity in the mix. In Ruby’s case, I don’t think she wanted to have as many kids as she did. She put in a vlog that she didn’t want to have E but Kevin did. Other than the youngest two, she always seemed to target Chad as the “problem.” But I feel some of that may have been Jodi’s counseling and Jodi has a particular hatred of males and especially adolescent boys. This really seems to be a perfect storm of two individually bad people coming together and ramping each other up. Just my lay person’s observations

After hearing these details, I’m fully convinced there was a very real possibility those children would’ve died if one hadn’t escaped and gotten help. Dr. Honda, can kids with all this trauma ever recover fully? I know trauma sticks with people, but will these kids have PTSD as they get older from their Mom and Jodi?
@Ms.Prairie Жыл бұрын
I’m a former complex trauma kid with previously undiagnosed ADHD, and yes, they can absolutely recover, but ‘recovering fully’ isn’t really a thing. It’s kind of like scarring that can open back up in later life. (Getting my BA degree is taking me longer than peers my age, but that’s not the same for everyone with my trauma profile). I will probably need psychiatric and psychological support for the rest of my life - but it’s kind of like how we all normalize taking our vitamins. Trauma alters the body on a chemical level, so we are more prone to mild to severe autoimmune disorders (I have endometriosis and mild eczema) when the trauma took place during early developmental periods. Humans are truly unique like snowflakes, in that our resiliency ebbs and flows, and sometimes our resiliency can be so strong it defies neurotypical logic. I hope this helps understanding ❤

i do appreciate dr. honda making sure everyone watching is safe, even at the expense of views, and also that he's not mincing words, because this just sucks. i feel like a lot of kids are harmed because some adults have difficulty with the concept of children as... children. they are developing humans with specific thoughts, needs, and behaviors seeing them as small adults means you could assume they have context and responsibilities they are just not capable of, and seeing them as something like a pet leads to depriving them of care and stimuli they need but this behavior towards adults *or* animals would be (or SHOULD be) entirely unacceptable. this feels like treating children as objects. or worse! you wouldn't duct tape your toaster out of spite if it didn't work! this sucks!!

She has agreed to serve her terms consecutively, and has agreed to jail time. She can be sentenced anywhere from 4-60 years. Why isn't she being charged with attempted murder? She is lucky her kids did not die. It would have resulted if this young man hadn't escaped. These women are horrible! This is horrible! FYI...I am LDS and we don't use the language of "you are possessed", "you have something demonic and need to repent", or "you are evil." This just shows how sadistic these ladies are. They wanted to control and terrorize these kids not because of their religious beliefs, or convictions on upholding truth, or whatever BS they were telling themselves. They just flat-out wanted to control, abuse, and manipulate vulnerable innocent children. Their punishment should be swift and harsh. There are just so many people who are made up differently and like Dr. Honda references, that wake up wondering how they can hurt others, and it is amazing how many people subscribed to her philosophies and ways of thinking. I think there are so many people that failed these kids, including their father. I hope this just helps us to remember to be kind, and help others where we can because so many people are suffering. My philosophy has always been that if any child is in my presence, then I will treat them like one of my own. I will be a safe space and hopefully leave people feeling loved because of our interactions and hope that it carries through to others. We just have to do better as a society.

Hidden True Crime put a video of Jodi's house that just went on the market and you can see where the kids where kept. Everything this woman is saying about what Ruby and Jodi did to the kids didn't involve Kevin. You can read the reports on multiple news sources and you tube channels. While Jodi and Ruby have to go to the sentencing, they will not be given a sentence at that time. In Utah, they will be taken to the prison and in about 8 months, the Parole Board will decide what their sentence will be. The judge has no say in it. Jodi's niece was told Jodi will most likely get the 60 yrs total. She was told that by the DA.

Jodi may be on increased supervision, but who knows, but they were denied bail, presumably due to flight risk and commingling with others (or the internet) to alter their alibis/defense. They both took plea deals, so sentencing is in February and they will be transferred to state prison (if I recall correctly). I really recommend Hidden True Crime’s coverage in the case. They’re a couple! Dr. John is a licensed psychologist and Lauren is a former local journalist.

I've always been convinced Ruby is sadistic because of the look of joy on her face - she becomes RADIANT when she thinks of her children's pain. I have trouble watching it. Jodi seems different - obsessed with control and domination.

What really makes me sad is clips ive seen where R and E are talked about by other people as being so sweet and kind. I saw a clip where ruby said that E was always smiling and behaving and being sweet but that it was manipulation. So she got punished for...being too nice?

That was Jessi’s victim profile too when they allege (and I fully believe) that Jodi would send Jessi to church with duct tape over their mouth because words are manipulation when you’re “possessed”.

Jodi Hildebrand was just as bad. She pleaded guilty a few days ago, and one of the things she pleaded guilty to forcing the little girl to jump into a cactus at least 3 times! How messed up can someone be to do this to a little child? Jodi's niece, who had endured some of the same abuse from her aunt, and who also tried to flee but was sent back, she said, she had spoke to someone in court, and they said, that the sentence Jodi will be receiving will be on the upper end of the spectrum, i.e. closer to 60 years.
@StylaPet Жыл бұрын
She is pleads guilty to 4 charges each holding a sentence of 1-15 years and has already agreed to the sentences running concurrently so she’s looking at 4-60 years and I’m really hoping it’s closer to 60!

Also a bunch of youtube lawyers are guessing maybe 8 years minus time served, probation and the high probability of early release. Given it’s her first offence (legally speaking), she has a large and present support network (family & community), and probably seems like an ideal candidate for rehabilitation; I could see her getting away with a little tap on the wrist from a jury of her peers/local judge. Personally I’d like to see her in a chair but apparently I’m biased

Unfortunately the max is only 30 years because of a Utah statute and that these are only SECOND DEGREE child abuse charges. I can’t imagine what first degree would have to be since this is some horrific stuff! Hopefully they will get at least long enough for the minors to age out. Anything under 20 yrs is a miscarriage of justice.
@kellybrusky87659 ай бұрын
If anyone is interested there is a 20/20 on this that just came out. Definitely don’t watch if you are sensitive to this stuff because you see what condition the children were found in and it is incredibly troubling. I hope they both go to jail for the rest of their lives, to starve and imprison your own children is unforgivable.

I wonder if Ruvy torchering her children was a form of subconscious projections. The way some abusers will blame their victim for all the behavior they are actually doing. Total speculation, but maybe Ruby knows/feels there is someone wrong with her at her core(like Ali Wong in Beef), and so her kids are just an extension of her and she punishes them in all the ways she wants to be punished? I don't thing Ruby was ever this sadistic though until spliting with her husband and going up with Jodi. Where would she have the time between all the filming? How would she have kept her kids quiet for so long? I think her oldest Sheri would have come out by now if things had been that extreme I her home. It seems that vlogging was her escape, her high - something I really don't understand. I think she even said ask much that blogging helps keep her in check. Then she gave it all up to be with Jodi. I wonder if that contributed to her slowly becoming unhinged?

Personally, I don't think Ruby is sadistic. I think there are a lot of things that came together to make her capable of this violence. Our society values authorities like psychologists and Jodi was one. I think Ruby knew that these methods are not practiced by mainstream psychologists, but that's where the religious authorities come in. The Bible says that if you spare the rod you spoil the child, so that alone can lead the devout to beat their children. In addition to that many Mormons were referred to Jodi by their Bishops. So, she was primed to listen to Jodi and Jodi is very convincing. Jodi would say that punishments are "spiritual surgery". Surgeons have to cut into human beings bodies, in certain situations like war they might have to remove a limb while the person is screaming in agony. Those surgeons do that because they know that while it causes the patient pain, it is also helping them. I think that's where Ruby's head was at, she was brainwashed by an authority that the violence was necessary to help her children. The Milgram experiments prove that our obedience to authority can lead us to commit violent acts even without long-term brainwashing and in this case there was long-term brainwashing.

Pretty sure Jodi was just a therapist at a Master's level. Psychologists are doctorate level. And she had her licensed suspended for a time- I think because of how she treated Adam steed? I wish those facts were enough to ward people off Jodi but atlas she was recommended by the church which I'm sure for many Mormons Is higher ranking than science.

I’m also concerned for Ruby’s older children. If they complied out of fear they will also be impacted for the rest of their lives. I speak from experience. Their spirits have been broken. They are vulnerable to further abuse from others.

You have the timeline wrong these things happened while Kevin was living separately. The kicking and waterboarding i mean. Do i think he deserves a pass NO however he was not in the house for the timeframe of this investigation sadly.. Also utah only allows 30 years for level 2 charges so the 60 people are talking about is not possible. It makes me sick but i bet they get 4 to 6 years. We need better laws..

I try not to judge or assume I know the mind of anyone I don't know, but it's hard not to think Ruby and Jodi got some sadistic pleasure in all this. I don't know that they believe they did anything wrong. They seem to be taking the plea to avoid consequences although Ruby has said it's to spare the children going through the trial. I really hope the kids are getting real help. It's hard to know if the father is safe. Do you know of any studies on how not fully sadistic people (abusers) are convinced that abuse is love? It sounds like you believe there are many abusers who are not sadistic or psychopathic. Is there specific treatment to help reprogram people who believe this?

While I am so glad the victims won't be put through the trauma of a trial, it's frustrating to me that the full horror of their abuse will not have its day in court. We shall see, but unfortunately it doesn't look like Ruby or Jodi will serve more than the mandatory minimum for their crimes (4 years). I just don't want either of these women to ever be able to have a normal life after what they have done...

I agree. In the Chris Watts case, the state investigator/detective (one step down from the FBI, essentially) said she felt like the story was never finished and she couldn’t find true justice for his wife and his children, and the State as a whole - because Chris took a plea deal. It is just devastating. I fully believe the trial could have been accomplished without subjecting the kids to cross-examination or further interviews. They could easily use the first weeks of their pediatric care, and follow up appointments that happened post-escape. It boggles my mind. It shouldn’t be allowed in cases like this. It would expose so much systemic religious ab*** of children and infants within Utah.
