As someone incredibly harmed by purity culture and abstinence based education...nothing boils my blood like the victim blaming and lack of education about bodily autonomy that comes with it. Those lessons teach children to have power over their own bodies and they will be more likely to speak up about being harmed or pushed into sexual situations they are not ready for.

@DominelleBorden I think most parents are just trying to shield their kids. That mindset, while well intended, does let in those that would seek to push boundaries, when there are none as a parent can't and shouldn't be with kids and teens 24/7.

It’s the story you came to life to live it and overcome it. I believe that anyone who was born in a difficult situation that take him years to overcome is a brave soul that took that story willing to overcome it and flourish regardless of it. It must be hard to cut relationships that u have known your entire life .. relationships that you are defined by. I am on that early stage where I am just realizing that in order for me to live life authentically the way I want, at a certain point I will have to cut my fundamental relationships (family). Just that realization is hard to accept let alone acting on it. Good for you to have been able to reach that stage. It’s okay if it felt wrong, upsetting and scary. Allow what ever emotions or doubts to surface and you will heal eventually and find peace within.

“Family” does not abuse each other. If your blood relations have mistreated you they have lost the privilege to be called family. Grieve the relationship you should have had with these people and lay them to rest. It is a freeing experience to let go of this umbilical cord of guilt that connects you to “family”. After birth the umbilical cord becomes unnecessary and unsafe for the baby. Cut ties.

Tragically, it's not entirely against doctrine. Women are basically blamed for tempting the man with immoral dress or behavior. And for being alone with the man. Not every bishop is harsh about it, but a lot of them do. I was raised Mormon. I was sexually assaulted in high school. I was basically labeled a "sexually immoral" teen after that. The Mormon repentance process involves a lot of public shaming and going over the event in excruciating detail alone in an office with an old man who's telling you what you did was almost as bad as murder. That you're not allowed to take the sacrament anymore (similar to Catholic withholding communion - it's very distressing if you believe). The church is absolutely culpable in this case. They brought her those children. They paid for these "treatment" sessions out of tithing and offering money. They selected her for this task precisely BECAUSE she was basing her treatment on Mormon Doctrine and an LDS book called "the miracle of forgiveness" and an official pamphlet "for the strength of the youth" designed for church sponsored "especially for youth events." It's doctrine and it's literally killing kids. A lot of kids un-alive themselves because of these teachings. It's a huge problem in the church.

After I left the church and my mom was still attending, she loved her bishop and it really enhanced the overall experience for her compared to other times with bishops more... strict? Traditional? I don't know what word to use. I also have friends who belong to a stake in Washington state and their experiences growing up in that church are completely different from mine. Being in 12 step recovery programs for a few years some old schoolers will say that in sexual assault that “both participants have a part in it, even if its only 1%”. Its absolutely horrifying and hearing people believe this is really disturbing. Worse yet is that someone is a victim of assault they have often been asked, “what was your part in it”. I should know as this had happened to me. It was horrible and the shame I felt was suffocating. This is not of course to demonize 12 step programs, but it does show the insidious nature of sex shaming that can weasel itself into even programs that are meant to help others.

TW: SA, victim blaming You would think blaming the victim would be against the Mormon church. I left the church a year ago and recently got SA on a date. My very Mormon Mom’s reaction? “There’s something to be said about Mormon boys…” like it was my fault that I got violated because I dated someone outside the religion. Of course, now they spout that the victim is never guilty but that's after DECADES of preaching the opposite. Spencer W. Kimball, a former prophet, wrote this terrible book called “The Miracle of Forgiveness” that reads, “It is better to die defending one’s virtue [chastity] than to live having lost it without a struggle.” or Richard G. Scott, an apostle, said “The Lord may prompt a victim to recognize a degree of responsibility for the abuse” and that they should repent.
@rachellevigil9004 Жыл бұрын
Not only that… but it’s in the handbook for bishops that sometimes the victim played a part that they need to repent of. There are so many stories if bishops blaming victims who are seeking help because, hey, the handbook literally instructs them to look for reasons to.

That Kimball quote is atrocious and burned into my brain. Where I grew up they would paraphrase it to say, "It's better to die than to be r*ped." How anyone in their right mind could enthusiastically say that to young adults ages 12-18 astounds me to this day. And it was mostly elder men saying it to young women. I was 8 the first time a Sunday school teacher pulled me out of the room into the hall alone and proceeded to tell me I should never take my clothes off for other people. I was 8 and thinking... okay? Why are you saying this to me? What is happening right now? Why am I being singled out? Then I think of all the elders who felt it was totally appropriate to put their hands on my shoulders, my lower back, my knee... and if I said anything about it I was labeled a problem child. I'm a problem because I don't think I should be touched by grown men without consent. Ugh. Disgusting.

Sexual sin in the Mormon church is often stated to be second to murder, past leaders used to say that it would be better to come home in a box then come home unworthy ( from a Mormon mission) sexual shame goes deep in this culture, You are expected to repent of sexual sin to be considered worthy and in order to do that you have to confess to your bishop a lot of ex Mormon women will say that they confessed to their bishop that they were raped and the bishop has often assumed it was still her sin , they will re traumatize her asking her if she orgasmed , ex Mormon women will also report that they were punished more harshly for engaging in sex than the men were. This is not always the case however many women have experienced this , There does not seem to be an understanding of consent as the main focus is to abstain until marriage and then within that boundary it’s okay.

But in retrospect, after having had time to think about this issue for a while now, I feel like I should have known that this was happening.. because there’s nothing that I can point to, no scientific paper or anything, that would back up the notion that in 2023 a large portion of human society wouldn’t be against being LGBTQIA+, masturbation, reproductive rights, children’s rights, etc. I must have been living in my own bubble before. I think that people who I might refer to as progressive are a small portion of human society. For a couple years I went to an Evangelical high school in what was otherwise a very diverse city. Every morning we would be forced to go to chapel and listen to guest youth pastors. Probably several times a week that would tell us that if we were alone in a room with any man it would be our fault whatever happened because boys and men have "uncontrollable urges". The message to the boys and men in the room is they can do whatever they want to young girls and women. My parents never even know the extent of the sick stuff we were taught, given it was delivered by a "youth pastor" and bracketed by prayer. In our city this school was also publicly funded which is outrageous. I was also told that my pets and friends would all go to he'll because they didn't attend the Evangelical Chuch (and animals "don't have souls and were created for men's use"). That was the last straw for me and I left that school. Talk about "grooming" young people. A lot of predatory creeps involved in these organizations 🙄

My guess is-- Jodi is a closet lesbian. She uses her position of authority as a councilor and trust as a church member to prey on vulnerable women. There may be a level of self loathing due to the clash with the religious dogma as well. But Jodi's MO seems to be a pattern of her all but invading a marriage by literally moving into the home and inserting herself as a third member. Then Jodi targets the man as the cause of all problems in the relationship and rather than work to keep the couple together, pushes specifically to exile the man. Leaving Jodi to make an attempt to form a sexual relationship with the woman. Remember even if the woman wasn't so inclined, Jodi is living with her and spent months demonizing men as a whole. Trying to break down any inhibitions to this relationship with Jodi. I think Ruby is just the target that Jodi was successful with. Ruby is clearly all in on the cult. While Jodi is composed and calculated, Ruby seems almost frantic. While Jodi is using all this as a manipulation- Ruby is a true believer at this point almost shaking with fervor. But they are virtually sitting in each other's laps in their videos even though the frame is panned out super wide. No reason they need to be in such close constant physical contact for the shot. That's a choice. If you are as down the rabbit hole as Ruby is to expose her kids to this level of torture by Jodi...anything Jodi wants she is getting. She got Ruby to ditch her husband, abandon her kids at best, torture them at worst, and parrot everything Jodi says as some holy enlightened word to a camera. Giving in to Jodi's sexual demands was probably the first thing to go. That's not to relieve Ruby of responsibility for her abusive nature. She was clearly a masochist and bully that got actual pleasure from her children's misery long before Jodi got her hooks into Ruby. That was more like immaturity and not being able to provide leadership as an adult. I saw this in the Army where young people suddenly got put in a position of power over other people- but with little training in leadership first. People lacking maturity that only see their authority as a way to dole out punishments and push people around. Ruby's smug grin during those times is more childish than mustache twirling villain.

I just saw People magazine cover and Ruby is on it. Twice. Jodi did not make the cover. Jodi gonna take Ruby down for stealing the spotlight?👏👏

A few months ago Jodi would have fumed at Ruby taking the spotlight. Right now I bet she wants to remove every association she can with her. I bet they're turning on each other with every sentence they utter...

She made millions off of the backs of the members of the LDS Mormon Church. Just thinking about the damage she has done to so many is enough to turn my stomach. I’m sure some, if not most of them, are reiterating her idiotic ideologies, which align perfectly with the LDS Mormon doctrines…

Someone please tell me I misheard her and she did not just talk about r@pe like it was a choice!

Yep. And I was raised in the Mormon church to believe I should die fighting rather than be raped. My mother gave me a book in high school that listed all the ways to get out of being raped. I wish I kept it, it was bizarre. It was an extreme fear of mine for years.

I can tell that you would consider me ignorant, but I can tell you that it is very possible to abstain from sex outside of marriage. It is called self control. And I don’t go around saying “i am a good pure person”. I haven’t been married since the 1970s, so I have known both sides.

There are many comments/references to Jodi being gay. If that is true, maybe it was easy for her to abstain from sex because of her religious beliefs so she thought it should be easy for everyone. Also, maybe she has a “jealousy” to those who could have sex by choice. Just thoughts but I shouldn’t even try to understand evil.

People are actually having sex later and later. The amount of virgins by the agr of 30 is immense actually. Also, I don't think sex is a compulsion, unless you see masturbation as sex maybe 🤔? Sure its a desire for most but it's not impossible not to, as opposed to drinking water

@Alayhoo Жыл бұрын
😂 fair enough. Don't move to Portland either because we're essentially the same. A lot of LDS and conservative folks are moving out of WA and OR to live in Idaho, which makes sense since there is a much larger LDS community. They will probably feel much happier there.
