Thank you. Aren’t they lovely? It’s amazing to me what things thrived with the snow and what things died. Making a list and def adding more of these babies!

Such a beautiful compact Oakleaf Hydrangea! I have a Pee Wee that I planted years ago and I will have to bring in a few of the Ruby Slippers now too. I love how the bold blooms catch your eye and punctuate vignettes across your beautiful landscape!!🌸

How’s your peewee doing? I planted a peewee and a bobo last year and they just failed terribly. I’m not sure what I did wrong but seem to have better luck with the oakleafs. My limelight’s are also pretty puny too. 😩 I suspect not enough sun probably. Thx for your comment & for being here!

My Pee Wee is actually a dwarf oakleaf hydrangea from Monrovia I found at Calloway’s. The blooms are white and age to tan. However, I have just planted 4 panicle hydrangeas at the beginning of April, ‘Strawberry Sundae’-I think they were First Editions? Also from Calloway’s. I had read an article from Proven Winners and it said that the panicles can take more sun than the other types, so I am trying them in a place where I have had a dickens of a time getting anything to grow. They will all get some morning sun, at least 3-hours, but one will get up to 5. So far the one that has received the most light during these cloudy weeks has stated to bloom, while the other 3 have no signs of buds at all. I’m guessing it’s because of all the cloud cover, but I’m also concerned that when the sun finally starts making a daily appearance that I might end up with scorched plants. So I think you’re right about the sun being the issue with yours. My Oakleaf and big leaf hydrangeas are blooming away under all the cloud cover in light to medium shade.

I bought a ruby slippers last year and I love it! I’m also in Texas, zone 8b/9a, NE of Houston. I have mine in part shade and wondering if that’s why I only have one flower this year 🤔 Great video! 👌

Probably. I initially put 2 in my back garden which is on north side of house and almost 100% shade. They lived but never bloomed. They definitely need some sun to flower. I think the oakleafs desire more sun then what regular hydrangeas need. Can you move yours to someplace with a bit more sun? Like a part sun scenario? Thx for your comment!

Hello! Do you wrap or mulch up these plants during the winter to protect the flower buds?

Garden is recovering nicely. What a beautiful plant. I need me some Ruby Slippers. Are these planted on the North side?
@SalongirlGardens
@SalongirlGardens 3 жыл бұрын
No. These are the south facing side of my home but under shade of 2 huge red oaks. They get shade all day until about 4 and then full blast of sun. I had some in the back garden but it has too much shade for them to thrive-so they need some sun. I got mine at Covington’s. I think I bought 6 at one time there. 🌸 thank you for watching/commenting!

I am wanting to add one of these beauties to my front flower beds. I am also in Texas (near Wichita Falls) and have a spot that gets sun from about 8-1, then shade for the rest of the day. Do you think that would be too much sun?
@SalongirlGardens
@SalongirlGardens 2 жыл бұрын
No, not at all. They do perform best with some sun. These in the video get sun from 1:00pm on Android they do great, south facing. (Blocked but house til 1). Get you a couple, I love them! Hardy and reliable.

When I go to nursery there is always some kind of black spot or holes at all of oak leaf hydrangeas. What’s the problem? I am in zone 8 too

Hmmm...probably diseased but can’t pin point. I’ve had no problems with mine. I’m an organic gardener so usually if a plant has a problem I’ll get it in my garden. I got mine at Covington’s in rowlett. Not sure where you are but I’d keep looking-they’re so worth it!

Yes. I got them at Covington’s. You can check their inventory online. I called them to see if they 6 and they did, brought to front for me so I didn’t have to search for them myself. www.covingtonnursery.com
