Nice to have South Africa back in international rugby then. Remember watching this at university in Birmingham

True, although the rugby team hadn't been away as long as the cricket team. England played them in 1984!

Twickenham is a very different stadium today, a beautiful stadium.

It was more beautiful in the 80’s. Terracing, Leitch, dark green etc

It was being re-built at that time.

We so badly need today, the sheer physical presence that this England side had around the park.

Often England would (rolling) maul teams to a standstill. France once had as little as 25% possession in a match and had to tackle nearly 300 times!! Interesting to also see England's tactical kicking too. Rob Andrew kicking into the corner and putting pressure on the SA Full back to concede possession in the 22. From memory Dooley, Bayfield and the rest of the forwards were huge guys and usually stole lineout possession - it's not surprising that England won back to back Grand Slams in that era. Carling certainly worked his tactics around his forwards!!

Indeed. There is a body of opinion that believes the 1991 WC Final was lost by England having been goaded by the Aussies and some in the press, that we were playing unattractive rugby. Thus we tried to run it a bit more in the final against the best running team in rugby at that time. The physicality of that pack , replicated in a modern style, would be very welcome!@@JP1234815
