From what I have seen on YT this model likes the upper 60's to 75 gr boolets... I snagged one of these rifles a couple months ago and finally got it to the range earlier this week... Tossed a Nikon 4-14x40 I had in the inventory, new Waren mounts, did drop in a lighter trigger spring also. Im not a reloader, love your passion but, dont have the time to invest at your level... to just get out and shoot the rifle for the first time I have a ton of Federal 55 gr BS NATO ammo... this has to be one of the most fun guns Ive owned... on avg with this 55 gr ammo I know it does not like, 2" groups, shot a couple hundred rounds, got one or two 1.5"s... Just grabbed some Hornady Frontier 75gr HPBT Match at Scheels yesterday, Tuesday next week back to the range,,,, w00t!!! and if you all dont know, this rifle is shorter than a 10/22, and weighs nothing to boot,,,

Heck yeah sounds like some fun was had. You dont have to reload for this rifle to get it to shoot. I may do a followup video on it with some factory ammo if ammo can be had. Thanks for watching!

I shot a 1.17 MOA group with bargain basement ammo at 100 yd, with the standard 4 lb trigger. I can halve that with match grade ammo. With a pound and a half trigger maybe even better. Going to proceed with both of those things.

Now that you`ve found your powder load, start working with your OAL. Have you measured how far off the rifle lands your bullet is sitting? Its much easier to find better accuracy by changing your OAL and dial the load in by seating the bullet off the lands probably around .015 to .020ths for a start. Before you shoot your ammo, i recommend checking the concentricity of your ammo. You`d be shocked at how much better it will shoot if the bullet is seated straighter in the chamber.
@TheHide3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm at a bit of a disadvantage with this rifle as I want to take advantage of the AR15 style magazine so I'm only able to lad to mag length. I thought about single loading it to try and take advantage of a longer OAL but I think that kind of defeats the purpose of a rifle like this. With that said I'm pretty happy with the overall performance. Maybe Ill get an actual bench rifle in 223 I can play around with more variables on but for this one I think I'm pretty well set on the OAL. Thanks for watching!

@@TheHide Yup i hear that brother. Mags will limit yah for sure. Thats what kept me from buying the ruger ranch rifle and i bought the Howa 1500 223 w the 20 inch heavy barrel instead. Just found your channel looking for a cure to a problem but subscribed now. Have you had any problems with light primer strikes by chance?
@TheHide2 жыл бұрын
Thanks I appreciate the support! No I haven't had any issues related to primers. Could it be just the ammo your using?
@michaeljoyce31532 жыл бұрын
@@TheHide yes sir. I started off with factory 556 loads from I believe imi had some issues. I thought hard primer so I loaded 20 rounds with Remington primers and 20 with cci. The cci primers worked the best with only two light strikes as the Remington got 7 light strikes. From my understanding Remington has harder primers so I wanted to load them as a base test. I haven’t pulled the firing pin out yet to see if there’s any problems. I hope it’s just dirt or carbon and I don’t have to send the whole gun in for them to say they found nothing and it keeps having the same problem.
@TheHide2 жыл бұрын
@@michaeljoyce3153 Yes Remington does have a bit harder primer than most. It may be an issue where you may need to clean out the firing pin from the bolt. I wonder if you may have a piece of carbon in there or something else gumming it up not allowing it to fully contact the primer.
@michaeljoyce31532 жыл бұрын
@@TheHide I pulled the firing pin from the bolt and found a piece of metal that wasn’t fully cut off in the machining process. It looks like I can remove it with a piece of sand paper glued to the end of an old cleaning rod. If not I’ll be contacting ruger and having them deal with it.
@TheHide2 жыл бұрын
@@michaeljoyce3153 Yeah be very careful doing anything mechanical you can void the warranty. So if it looks like there might be something that needs removed just put it back together and send it to Ruger lol
