This video is the one that convinced me to get the RR AmFib Snorkel. LOVE IT! I switch back and forth from Snorkel to Cold Air side cowl intake. I really liked the idea of not having to cut a hole in the side of the hood and the install was very easy. If you've done any kind of installs of anything on a vehicle, this is simple. One thing I did pick up from another install video was to rotate the clamps so the screw adjustment is under the intake tunnel, this keeps you from scraping your arms or snagging your shirt on the worm screws. Also, I've seen the exterior snorkel and cowl parts painted to match the jeep from another YT video, and it looks super sharp. One thing that also should be mentioned, do not tighten the clamps too tight (What me?), especially if you live in a warm climate, as the plastic on the connectors will deform. I did that, but with a little careful use of a heat gun was able to get them back into the proper shape. A suggestion is that RR beef up the plastic connectors where the rubber tunnel connects with a thin metal strip on the inside of the tunnel that is pop rivetted to the plastic to reduce the likelihood of the tunnel deforming from someone tightening too much on the worm screws. I'm thinking of trying the metal strip myself if I see the plastic deform again. As for a lightbar, I've purchased, not yet installed, an interior light bar that mounts on the inside of the windshield looking out, because of the roof mounted lightbar support conflict, to reduce road noise (More aerodynamic) and well, I liked the stealthiness of the interior lightbar (One less item to snag on tree limbs and one less thing for "sticky hands" to snag from your rig). Don't know how LEOs will view the legality of a lightbar not being covered on road, it's technically not an "exterior" light, but does shine to the outside, I guess I will find out soon.

Is it okay to leave the stock intake line at the bottom disconnected as it is? Or, is it possible to use the stock intake line at the bottom while keeping it connected? Because, embarrassingly, I’m installing the snorkel for 'looking good' purposes, and I rarely go off-road. Thank you for always posting videos that are helpful for beginners. Great video. If you've ever seen someone do Cape York in Australia, you'll understand why you really want this to be waterproof. Considering you can't really legally run 40's here (only 2 inchs bigger than stock) and maximum a 2 inch lift (although people run bigger) the higher and more waterproof you can get that snorkel, the better. Great product, appreciate the level of detial provided in the video.

Just an observation? You silicone the new fitting/elbow in the bottom of the air box but just snapped in the air box adapter? It looks to me it would accumulate water during slow deep-water crossings, both are almost the same height when installed? Very detailed video. Thanks
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
Not exactly but I see what you're trying to say. To me, plugging up any of the holes shouldn't make much of a difference being that they sit below the air filter. Companies like AEV specifically state NOT to plug the holes to allow for draining.
@dougharlow60375 жыл бұрын
@@wayalife Maybe this is a better way of explaining my question? At 14:09 your sealing a drain system and the air box adapter 15:55 is not sealed? Which would allow water to inter the bottom of the air box. And stay there until you open that white drain valve. All of the air box adapter is below the air filter as is the drain plug. Why not seal the airbox adapter to the air box? It comes out in one piece.
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
@@dougharlow6037 LOL - I got what you're saying. What I'm saying is that installing the drain wasn't even necessary.
@dougharlow60375 жыл бұрын
@@wayalife That's why I'm asking the question. If AEV states NOT to plug any holes then why are they giving you a drain system? AEV is asking to plug only part of the air box? I'll guarantee if you take that air box assembly and submerge it in water just below the air filter you see how fast it will fill up, the more it fills up the more your engine will starve for air. They did such a good good of engineering the snorkel assemble, I just don't understand why they would want you to seal the COMPLETE bottom of the airbox? Just an observation. You have great videos. Thanks
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
@@dougharlow6037 The bottom of my air box sits about 44" off the ground. If I'm fording water deeper than that, there's a lot more I'd be worried about than getting water in my engine. That being said, I couldn't tell you why one companies does things one way and another does it another. I simply showed all the steps Rugged Ridge instructed to do so that others could benefit from it. I would suggest you contact them to see what their reasons are.

The low profile snorkel looks the best. I think the idea of bringing in fresh ambient air would be the main usefulness of this item,rather than under hood temps. Although in colder climates it may make the motor run different. If your in water over that you will have other areas that water can enter,like differentials/transfer case breathers,any electrical connection that hasn't been waterproofed,etc.

I've been watching your video's and a new Subscriber I got to say I love the way you show us in detail. I'm surprised you don't have your own TV show like on the Speed Channel :-)

It looks so good with that tall snorkel on I hope you leave it like that.
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
I might. Fortunately, it literally takes 1 minute to change between the 2 so I'll have some time to think about it. :)

Looks cool, and it certainly is watertight. I have one concern and one comment.. My concern is that it's gonna whip around at highway speeds because it's not fixed to the A pillar. My comment is this.. Snorkels are not only fitted to prevent water ingress into the airbox, they are also good to get the air intake up high away from dust blown up by the tyres.
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
You could be right and we'll be testing that out.

@@wayalife I am right and yes, you should test it lol.

Ivan Valvassori I hear ya, the JK kit takes some work. Glad you enjoyed the video 😎
@Wolfpak7655 жыл бұрын
I'm with you Ivan. It floods often around the area where I live and I was all over it and then realized the JK version is way more effort to install. Now I'm balking on the purchase. :(

Definitely the low looks the best and I doubt you or anyone will ever go any deeper
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
LOL - most people with snorkels never even do any kind of water fording. :)
A factory paint match on the low profile would look great! It would give it that sleek factory look!
@troyd-motorsport99335 жыл бұрын
nice kit! looks good, the benefit of the high mount isn't just for water, theres less dust too!
@sl1pg8r5 жыл бұрын
I've heard there are venting tubes in the axles that should be run into the air box if you're installing a snorkel. Is that true?
@wayalife5 жыл бұрын
LOL - a vast majority of people who say that are the same people who will NEVER need to use their snorkel. That being said, IF you plan on going that deep, it would be smart to extend your axles, transmission and transfer case breather hoses to a higher location. Going to the air box is one way to do it but far from needed.
