What door hinges should you fit to your Land Rover Defender?

This couldnt have come at a better time. My doors has dropped about an inch on both sides. I was thinking about replacing the hinges when I bring them back up

Thank you, some wonderful options there. I do love YRM parts as they're always good quality and those Optimal hinges are very nice too. However being on the outside, all these hinges will get dirt ingress into the pin which grinds away in use causing more wear to the pin over time. So I opted for the modification I seen on defendermodsandtravels. He fitted grease nipples to the hinge pins and it's such a brilliant solution ! When you grease them, the grease is forced out through the hinges were the dirt gets in, there by flushing any dirt and grit out. It's a brilliant solution, but requires dismantling the hinge, drilling, tapping and finding the perfect size grease nipples. But once done, they don't impeed the opening and you can just put a grease gun on them and get the grease to squeeze out either end of the pin, so it really does the job. Even the lovely Optimal hinges with nylon will get dirt into the moving parts, and will eventually wear out. While you have them apart, the castings can be filed to a lovely shape to remove any shape imperfections. Or they can be shaped to a more square edge if you like to. I got mine from bolt-on- bits, and they're quite snug without much slop, and they come with ss torx bolts which could be filled with a plug of seam sealer disguising the head, this may help with confusing a would be thief, and I may drill and tap a n extra bolt from the inside, which seems a good idea too. But I can verify adding a grease nipple really works and should eliminate wear if maintained. Thanks for showing the options available

Great video, Thank you for making these they are just what we all need!.. If you’re defender has had a respray… will the optimill hinges cover the same footprint as the original hinges? Unfortunately my hinges were kept on when it’s been resprayed so anything smaller will show the old paint. Thanks 👍🏻

Great question. Because of the 'footprint' there is going to be some areas you can see where the old hinge sat. You could mask off the area with the hinge removed (small rectangle) and paint it with satin black or even Raptor, before putting the new hinge on. This would smarten the area up until you felt like painting the whole door. Would look even better with rounded corners to suit the Optimill hinge.

Can't help but wonder if the Exmoor Trim hinges could be easily modified to, at least provide that additional rear anchor or something similar. Love the Optimil products but agree on the looks.

What constantly surprises me is that iron, S.Steel items are used on aluminum without the use of rubber/plastic flanges to avoid electrolysis.

Would be good to see some headlight options… see plenty budget Chinese stuff then they all seem to jump to 400! Appreciate you did do an early demo of one lamp but would be good to see lots of comparisons…..

I just sent a front set back to the eBay supplier because two of the hinges were loose even although the seller said ,there’s no slop in our hinges,lol.

Does Optimil make a version without their brand on it? The product is great, I just don’t want to be a rolling billboard for them with “Optimil” labelled on every single bonnet and door hinge on my car 😂

ive had a frew britpart rear hinges and they have been utter rubbish didnt pass the wobble test and ive had front door hinges badly finnished off too again britpart the quality control on these are utter sh-te
