Stephen Hillenburg never asked people not to make SpongeBob spin-offs. He only said, "I don't see any at this time," or something like that. But on a side note, interesting fact: In Japanese, "The Rugrats Movie" is "Rugrats Movie," "Rugrats in Paris: The Movie" is "Rugrats: The Paris Expedition" and "Rugrats Go Wild" is "Rugrats: Go-Go Adventure."

The Rugrats was a 90s show, leave it in the 90s, no one was asking for a photorealistic reboot of the Rugrats, this could end up like the Baby Geniuses films, what next? A photorealistic reboot of Rocko's Modern Life?

I personally feel like this movie should go down the Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers root. The reason why I think that is because it’s a better animation choice than realistic cartoon characters in the real world trope. At least of what I know of, I wasn’t even aware Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers was going to be a crossover movie until the first trailer came out. Idk how that would work if they’ll use only Nickelodeon/Paramount IPs or expand out with IPs from other studios. The only plus side I can see with that idea is the possibility of making movie Sonic meeting Ugly Sonic canon.

Rugrats was MY SHOW growing up, even now as an adult I’ll still go back and rewatch it. When the new show released I originally was heavily against it after watching it. However when you step back and look at it not as a continuation of the original, but as a remake in the modern era, it isn’t that bad. Of course I’ll always be upset about some of the changes, especially how dirty they did Charlotte who went from being this bad ass business mogul who literally saved all the families by ripping off her high heel shoe and creating an opening for everyone to escape the capsized boat in to a shallow vein nobody who hates everyone in Drew’s extended friends and family (who also low key hate her in return) but the show (standing back and looking at it as a ‘new’ stand alone series’ isn’t half bad. Of course there’s nods to the original show for us adult fans, and even reskinned with tweaked storylines based off a few original show episodes. But it does grow on you after a while. Their Halloween special they dropped a couple years back was actually pretty great compared to modern show Halloween specials, and the Christmas one is pretty good as well, even comparing them to some of the originally running rugrat holiday specials. It is good in its own right, compared to a lot of the modern shows across the different animation networks, it’s a fine successor to the original series, even if it isn’t AS GOOD. Not every episode is a winner, but more than half are enjoyable. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

However, this live-action CGI hybrid is definitely a hard pass for me and just looks like it’s going to bring horrible flashbacks of Son of the Mask to moviegoers. This is just going to make the Baby Geniuses films look like masterpieces in comparison. At least those films knew to use real babies and toddlers and CGI only for their lips. Heck, this could even cause those who weren’t fans of the CGI reboot I’ve mentioned to end up reevaluating the reboot and finding more positive things to say about it in comparison to the live-action CGI/hybrid film.

If I was making it then everyone would be both in the way where in scenes where the camera is with adults then everything is live action with the children being slightly CG enhanced to move or wink or gesture only to keep it as if its "just babies being babies" feel to the scenes then when in the perspective of the children the camera would transition to the cartoon world viewpoint that is slightly more vibrant colours and has fantastical events take place during such moments. then at the end I would have the two worlds viewpoints come together in some event like them being trapped somewhere separated and have them reunite on differing sides of a sealed door that need the children to open it up before some time expires so one of the parents plays into the children's fantasies prompting the rest to do the same and the children "battle" the last hurdle before escaping with their parents they "saved" with an afterward of them having a playdate and have the parents talk about how scared they were when the children got stuck in something far more mundane than the children's side would have one believe.

Rugrats has this current punching bag status online, because people are sick of Nickelodeon's dependence on 90s nostalgia. I believe the show has lasting appeal and could thrive in any era. It saw a resurgence in the 2010s and was even popular among younger viewers, like Gen Z. Rugrats in Paris also had significant airtime in the early 2010s, proving that new generations can still connect with these characters. While the reboot wasn’t bad, it struggled because it was too similar to the original and had some flaws that turned viewers away. (I enjoyed it despite the flaws but unfortunately they were enough to sour people)

@@consumeroftoons2119 I apologize if I sounded harsh, what I meant when I said that Rugrats had its time was that the original series came and went leaving an impact. They just need to leave this show alone, it was perfect the way it was when it originally aired to the point where you could still show its classic iteration to children growing up today, and they will still take on those lessons. I don't know why these companies think that all of these shows need a revival. When all they really need is just a brush up in the animation, and maybe to have some of the voice actors come back and fix some lines, that is it, we do not need new animation style or storylines because the story that they gave was perfect to begin with.

The recent CGI reboot can’t have been that successful as I don’t think I saw anyone talk about the 2nd season to the point that I didn’t even think the reboot got a 2nd season. @consumeroftoons211926 күн бұрын
It did fairly well on streaming, (even with Nick not marketing it much) and has a third season on the way. Unfortunately, networks still count traditional metrics and it didn’t too well on the linear network. Three seasons is enough, especially since the 2021 series is just a retelling of the original series. But it still got done dirty, with the reboot being removed from Paramount+ and the rest of Season 2 being relegated to digital platforms, and DVD.

I believe that the current negative sentiment towards "Rugrats" grows from viewers' frustration with Nickelodeon's reliance on legacy properties, which detracts from the development of original content. Interestingly, "Rugrats" enjoyed considerable popularity throughout much of the 2010s, leading to excitement when the reboot was first announced. While I understand the reasons behind the current discontent with "Rugrats," I maintain that the characters and premise possess a timeless quality that can resonate in any era, as evidenced by the success of Boom Comics. Even ignoring that the live action/CG movie is a bad idea, and goes completely against what people loved about Rugrats, this is not the way you introduce those characters. A different strategy, such as the one employed in "A New Wish," could have proven more effective.
@GODZILLA291526 күн бұрын
With that reboot, I didn’t like their 3D models and it has dull lighting and colors such as the living room. Also where’s Howard? Nostalgia had its uses for Nick such as Hey Arnold The Jungle Movie and even gave a few shows one more special, but I say the Rocko one gave the best lesson when it comes with nostalgia.
@consumeroftoons211925 күн бұрын
The lighting in the Pickles' house tends to be quite dim, while other locations feature brighter illumination. Regarding Howard, there are subtle hints and teases about his potential introduction in the series. However, if he is indeed brought into Season 3, as suggested, it would have been more effective to introduce him from the outset and to portray Betty as bisexual. This is not to undermine the talent involved in the reboot; it includes notable alumni from "Hey Arnold," such as Joe Purdy and Rachel Lipman, and showrunner Kate Boutilier has a history with both the original "Rugrats" and "The Wild Thornberrys." My critique is not directed at these people, they had their hearts in the right place, but rather at the decision to adopt a partial modernization approach instead of fully reimagining the series. While I personally enjoy the reboot, I believe a special or miniseries format could have been a more compelling alternative.
