@@i-eat-you The majority of the land is owned by the Alaska Railroad and the City. Very little private property for development. As a result, housing is mostly in the form of a couple of condominiums and a smattering of small framed cabins on private lots. As an introvert myself I do hope for this reason as well as others the comment was deep sarcasm or a bot. Here's my version. Wouldn't it be amazing for the environment and social benefits if we all lived in community pods where we all shared belongings isolated from the environment and where our wastes were recycled to meet all our food needs. And it would save so much time wasted preparing food if there could be just a waste processing tube that injected needed nutrients just connected from our anus direct to our stomach. Just think of the reduced carbon and work life balance! 😅 But of course I'm taking it to the extremes of this type of thinking. The people in this community seem lovely and if it makes them or the commentator above happy they should be free to voluntarily choose living as they wish. It's not for everyone and people should remain free to live in the ways that works for them. One person's heaven can be another's hell. I recently saw the planned city in the desert called The Line and that looks like a planned dystopia to me but I guess some people want to live there. Again as long as it's just one type of voluntary option. On a creepy aside, the ad I got with this video was for bespoke underground luxury bunkers for rich people to ride out the apocalypse in style and opulence.

What a GREAT idea for a small town. However, I hope that the city does background checks. Otherwise, it could be dangerous. 😳
@explorer8125 Жыл бұрын
Yeah they definitely need to do that. The apartment building I used to live in was for elderly and disabled and had all good people but then the manager was way to nice and well I guess you can’t discriminate but a lot of druggies got rented to now and I’ve heard it’s not that good or safe anymore... but I guess they would’ve had to been over 65 or drawing disability in some way

At first I was reminded of videos I've seen of Soviet apartment buildings. I can only imagine, especially during the winter when you don't get any sun at all for months, how depressing this could get.

It's nice to see that this building is in such good condition. I've visited Adak Island twice; Once in the early 1990s when Adak was still a nuclear submarine base. I returned in 2010, and I was shocked at the differences. There's a big building that I'm certain was the enlisted quarters, and in the bottom floors there a huge swimming pool, and a theater. Most septic tanks are in better condition, and the theater wasn't any better. Smashed EVERYTHING made me sick. The strange thing was, everything else is in great condition. There's a typical McDonald's (theletters are all gone, and the sun bleached eveything around the name on its side) This is a really cool video, it tugs at my heart string for my home away from home.

If you like the idea of everyone living in one place, you might enjoy the fictional novel called Wool, where everyone lives in a silo because no one can go outside anymore.

This would be a good concept for retirees or those who have budgetary constraints... Build a building or a building complex to house the whole town in... I bet it'll be a cheap and affordable "rent to own" system for people who like to live this way....all in_no need to go outside.
@rebeccaa2433 Жыл бұрын
It's like this in a lot of assisted living places. They have a salon, movie theater, shops, restaurant etc.
@KatieBellino11 ай бұрын
I think as housing becomes scarce and there are environmental concerns, you will see more of these building concepts. We even have the tech to have indoor greenhouses right in a building.
@nekokid Жыл бұрын
Idk what went through my mind but listen. Imagine a scenario where there is one zombie-infected person which hasn't turned to zombie yet, going inside the building. A few hours after that, there is a raging snow storm outside isolating the residents in the building. I think it'll be an interesting movie if there is one such a kind.

Im from Alaska and Whittier doesn't look like that. It's truly not just in the middle of nowhere...it's only like 2 hours from anchorage and there is a lot of other buildings in the area. It's a place a lot of people go to for fishing during the summer.

I remember reading books in middle school called Sideways stories from Wayside School where it's about a school that's built like a vertical tower instead of a normal horizontal classroom style and has many short stories of every classroom with wacky silly plots...and this reminds me of that but towns people style.
