The supine is a fourth declension verbal noun that is almost entirely unique to Latin. We commonly see it as the fourth principal part of a verb, and it is found in only two cases, the accusative and ablative. This video discusses the accusative supine, also known as the supine in -um, which is found after verbs of motion to express purpose.

glad to see you still make latin videos! My friend recommended your channel to me a little while ago, and I was astounded by the quality AND quantity of the videos. Thank you for these, they help a lot.

You’re welcome! I’ve going to keep plugging away at them until there are no more videos to make.

This is a rule that just fell through the cracks in my education. I remember lazily calling Caesar's use of "rogatum" a participle describing "legatos" despite the fact that both the voice and the number didn't jive.

Given how often we see it, that’s okay!

So this is kind of like "at an action"? as in, I am going towards the city (city would be acc in Latin) and this use of the supine would be like: I am going towards the action of hunting or "I am making preparatory actions to do this other verb (which is the supine)"

Great video. I would like to ask, why is the future passive infinitive using the passive form of īre, while the other usages on the video used the active forms?
@latintutorial

Without any research, I'd suggest that the passive form of īre (īrī) connects in with the passive meaning. The active īre + supine has a future active sense, "to be going to...", so the passive form would logically have a future passive sense. Sometimes Latin syntax works by taking something that makes sense and applying a basic transformation that in and of itself makes sense, even if the newly transformed word/phrase doesn't make sense to us in English in the same way that the original phrase did.
