Hello Rummy's Corner. I would like to introduce myself to you. I'm a huge Boxing Fan of old school Boxing and can honestly say that I have enjoyed watching your videos. I have a channel of my own and admire your boxing series. Keep up the good work. Two fights that I can think of from the 1950s are Beau Jack vs Ike Williams Joe Louis vs Rocky Marciano. Carmen basilio vs Tony Demarco. 1&2
@Camcolito4 жыл бұрын
Basilio - Demarco definitely should have been on this list, both of them.
@hummuna695 жыл бұрын
Against La Starza, Rocky had a lot of trouble getting inside to inflict the damage he wanted to. His trainer told him "if you can't find the mark, hit him with everything you've got on his arms and they will come down, leaving you with the opening you need.". When Rocky followed his advice, Roland started having huge bruises on his biceps, shoulders, etc. Of course, his hands came down and this led Marciano to the win. In another bout you mentioned, The Brockton Blockbuster's nose was hanging off his face and that's where he moved into overdrive to win that fight. Those were the good old days!
@damatoslegacy90755 жыл бұрын
I think Rocky's nose was split in the Ezzard Charles II fight, who was arguably the toughest opponent of his career besides Jersey Joe. Apparently Marciano's corner held Rocky's nose together with some kind of toxic material that could have killed him had it not been removed in time.

Great list as always. Way too many fights in that decade to be picky about - so many Marciano fights and Ezzard vs Jersey Joe brawls and full-on fisticuffs with Tony Two-Ton fights and LaMotta fights and guys who's chins made for the most unreal slugfests. Also, great voice Rummy! You already sound like a classic and you are obviously a student of the sport. why dont boxers (heavy weights especially) not crouch anywhere near as often as they used to.. ie frazier Ali or Marciano
@LRBeforeTheInternet6 жыл бұрын
+Oliver viskovich-quinn Why even compare Ali's boxing skills to flat footed brawlers like Marciano and Frazier? Ali fought tall, even off the ropes. He would circle his opponents up on his toes lining up straight shots off his jab, and if he was pressed on the ropes he would lean back forcing you to throw to his body.

Hw are bigger now
@brentcruz87796 жыл бұрын
I am too lazy to refute so... "You don't know shit about Boxing." - Roger Mayweather
@simonghostriley1116 жыл бұрын
Because most heavyweights are 6'4 plus why would they crouch down when they can use their height. AJ used to be a big fan of Mike Tyson and when he first got into gym he was fighting crouched down peek a book style but the trainers made him realise your style is determined on your body. It wouldn't make sense for most heavyweights of today to crouch.
@Leeroynumanuma6 жыл бұрын
Oliver viskovich-quinn Personally I think it’s due to height. After the 50s the heavyweight division was just bigger. Guys like Ali, Holmes, Lewis, The Klit brothers etc were all well above 6 foot and had no reason to crouch. Smaller guys like Marciano, Frazier, and Tyson crouched to make themselves a smaller target and harder to hit for guys larger then them. It can be hard for taller guys to punch down effectively to hit shorter guys.

Growing up in the 60's, adults my parents age would always talk about Rocky Marciano and I just kind of scoffed at them because I was ignorant and didn't know any better. Now I know better. Short arms, short in stature, clumsy, awkward; but he was a machine who never stopped coming, never stopped punching, and had dynamite in both fists. 49-0 as Heavyweight Champion in the 50's pretty much says it all.
