I love PS3. I have 4 of them. My original launch day 60GB fat. 3 of the version 3’s. Two are still sealed in the boxes. I wanted to have backup units, in case my units ever quit. I still play PS3 on the regular.

I’ve been collecting for the system since the pandemic. In addition to everything that was mentioned in the video, I love the fact that they’re blu rays and hard to scratch (not impossible though) which makes it so much easier when you’re hunting down stuff at flea markets/ old retail stores. 95% of the stuff I’ve found has been in pristine condition, while other stuff like OG Xbox and Ps2 has been 40% tops

I still have my Slim PS3 I got in 2010 and it still works perfectly to this day!! Granted I don’t play it as much as I used to, but if I could get me some more classic RPG games for it then I would definitely start playing again!! Maybe also get me another smaller 1080p TV also? Like a 32inch since that is about the best it will look!! Though a lot of PS3 discs don't have all of the data required to even play the game on said disk. It makes collecting for a system like this less desirable if you have to source update patches online.

Great video for those getting into collecting. Generation 7 is by far my favorite to collect for as I feel it is the transition generation. It still has games with the old school action first feel, while also introducing the first iteration of Trophy/achievements and online community/friends console

But for how long are the games going to hold up, and why is this suddenly an item when the world was crying for a PS 5, and now everyone is talking about Nintendo 64, PS og, PS 3, Xbox 360, so I think the people who are saying this, don't need a PS 5 or 6, just stick with problematic fps game consoles that were learning about what we have now, that was junk compared to the ps5, or even the ps4 pro. Yeah you could use Google and files, but that's not what a gaming console is mainly built for. They're built for gaming entertainment. And the ps3 was absolutely ridiculous in price when released, almost 600.00 for half of what we have now. People are back tracking and I don't know why, I think everyone knows what a ps3 is, it's not like WOW!! The ps3? Woooh. It's not like that, it's an old console, and was the best for it's time.

@@DiMarzio-Tone what will always make the ps3 hold a legendary title, is the ability to run custom firmwares. Being able to run homebrew applications on a console makes it the closest thing to a PC as a console. Not to mention all of the classic games PS3 had in its prime that are still fun to play to this day

I got myself the Slim and the Fat BC PS3. Got YLOD twice, but had someone rework the inside of the PS3 so that doesn't happen again. I got them both almost 10 years ago and I still play them. Love that backwards compatibility. Playing Silent Hill Origins (PS2) this week. 🤓

I have both Slim and Super slim models. Love the Slim and it's in living room stand next to PS5. The Slim is only 60gb, but SS is 120gb. I got the SS back in the day to travel with and have for upstairs. Before smart tvs showed up in hotels we would hook it up and play games and watch movies (discs) or stream Netflix. We had so much fun! Now I just bring a fire stick. The SS is compact and light enough to be mounted on the back of the upstairs tv.

All my friends got rid of there PS3 I still have mine and mine is backwards comparable with PS2 if you buy a backwards comparable PS3 and have a PS5 you are set for life. And that’s 5 generations of gaming. PlayStation is probably the only one can do that.

i found my fat ps3 at a pawnshop. they had two but i went for the fat one with the four usb ports. it ended up a mgs4 version and he had the box. obviously went with that one. brought it home hooked it up. turns out the original owner had never had it online. still not updated. thought about setting it aside but ended up just using it. probably should have stashed it. still have it hooked up though and its still kicking. blurays on my plasma look amazing in the dark. rolling old school up in here and its not so bad.

I love ps3. Puppeteer, sly cooper collection, Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, yes! The Motor storm games, Uncharted 2 and 3, and to this day my favorite on the system…. Transformer Fall of Cybertron. Absolutely underrated game. It’s like the makers of uncharted made a transformers game. So flippin good from start to finish. And I could go on. One of my top 3 favorite systems.

You should try to game hunt in Oklahoma City some time. There are over 40 pawn shops and tons of thrift stores. I only made 2 stops last month and got a full sega cd / genesis for 40 bux and SNES New 3DS console for 100 dollars mint. Also about 30 games like 3 dollars each.

got a original ps3 fat, it had YLOD. did an RSX swap on it from a slim which has revised RSX chips, which by the way is the reason why ps3/Xbox 360s had that hardware failure. it was a factory defect with the wide range of NVidia graphics cards Chips affected are mostly from 2006-2008. MCP and GPUs are affected, both in laptops and desktops. Well now my ps3 runs super cool and i play a crap ton of ps1-3 games.

I got the fat ps3 for Christmas when It first came out don't remember if it was the 60 or 80 gb version. But it has the combo new system and motor storm with it, I played that game forever. The system was a little loud with the fans on and would make you sweat in a closed room. Great times! It died from probably to much heat.

I found this video because I was looking for a Linger in Shadows clip for a friend. This game, from the demoscene, is a must play and only available on the ps3 store. I never knew but the demoscene was homebrew from waaay back in the Amiga days and some of these guys produced a few titles on ps3. Datura is another I recommend from the digital store. Ps, if it was eyeko then the Japanese would have written it as Aiko. Just saying. Fantastic video, love the ps3 in 23! Bonus format, it also plays audio CD's where as Ps4/5 don't.

When PS4 was midway through it's life I swooped up a ton of PS3's and PS3 games and started collecting them. I would go to My Local Rasputin Music and buy handfuls of them mostly being 95 cents to $4-$5. I would score hundreds of PS3 games from people getting rid of them in lots right here in the San Francisco Bay Area. It was a GOLD MINE for pennies on the dollar. I was buying PS3 Consoles with some games and controllers thrown in for $30. Sadly those days in my area are long gone - Everyone is doing there Ebay price look ups and selling them for too much money nowadays. I LOVE having physical copies, and the manuals, and the feeling of nostalgia hits me so good but I had to sell off the collection as it takes up too much space. That was years ago, and those games were selling for a good amount of money. I sold my PS1/2/3 Compatible PS3's for well over $300 each...The Glory Days will be missed but boy these PS3's were literally being liquidated 5-7 years ago...Before everyone realized Physical gaming has one foot out the door, and just isn't what it used to be.

So true, anyone looking to get into game collecting in 2023 can’t go wrong with ps3. So many good games that are easy to find and super affordable. I would also say Xbox 360 and even og Xbox to a degree. The time is now to collect for those consoles!

OG Xbox prices have crept up a lot in the last few years, some of the rarer games are hundreds of dollars now, pre-pandemic the same titles were under $100. I am pretty happy with my OG xbox collection, but there are a few games I regret not buying 5 years ago. 360 and PS3 seem to be the sweet spot for collecting right now.

Great video. Love the PS1, 2, 3 systems. The games are amazing. Back in the late 90s PS1 were super popular because it was easy to open up and put a mod chip there or plug a device to play back up games. The PS2 was also easy to softmod. Once it is easy to softmod PS3 the value of it will shoot up.

8+ yrs on my superslim white edition ps3 and still no issues... she stands up 100% of the time too. Some maybe not fortunate... I always see negatives on what I have and never see those issues. My ps4 is day one and only sounds like a helicopter on updates

I had a Super Slim model and I hated it. That sliding door was the worst. My sister-in-law's husband gave me his PS3 and it is the slim model. I love that model. Motorstorm is also one of my favorite games on the PS3. I 100% beat that game and some of the races I had to do over multiple times.

There are PS1 games with compatibility issues on PS3 so always research the PS1 games you intend to play on your PS3.

I’ve had every model but each one ‘broke’ in some way until I’ve ended up with the slide top one and while it hasn’t broken it’s definitely my least favourite. It’s only backwards compatible with PS1 games but that’s ok. It’s used as the heart of my sit down arcade cabinet. Currently playing lots of Strikers 1945 on it ✌️

I repaired my PS3 for cheap (got the sensors replaced as it wasn't reading the games) and I play the PS3 as much as I play my PS5 because of the great games that it had and the PS2 backwards compatibility . On that point, isn't the backward compatibility feature only on the first gen PS3's?

Bought my PS3 Slim with move in 2010 and it's still working well! The controller got some stick drift though unfortunately! Probably take it apart and see what can be done as it just sat in box for a while with no stick drift before that. I'd love to see what an SSD could do in it. Made my PS4 Pro load times incredibly fast.

I had my original ps3 fat from 2010 until 2022 when i finally got the YLOD. Thats when i was lucky enough to find a Test PS3 fat which is the Dev unit. On the minus side, it does not play DVD movies at all, period. On the plus side it plays all regions of not only ps3 games as all ps3’s do, but it also plays all regions of ps1 and ps2 games. Not only that i added custom firmware to my ps3. Also believe it or not there are a lot of ps3 ganes that the multilayer is still active from Team fortress from the half life orange box collection, and Motorstorm both of which ive played online recently. Also theres an active Socom multiplayer community r where you can play Socom 1,2 and 3

i agree with you on the fact that it is convenient you don't need a memory card, but i mean there is something satisfying about playing ps1 games on an actual ps1 with a memory card. my best friend my brothers we all have a working ps1 that we use all the time, and it just is more satisfying to take my memory card over and actually socialize. that being said, i own 10 ps3s. and 8 xbox 360's because the limited edition ones are boss to look at. my favourite being the tales of xillia Japanese console. that think is a work of art.

can get a slim ps3 for $30 - $50 aud here in QLD australia so $35 usd max. There's wierd phases with retro or previous gen consoles. So megadrive stuff is more pricey. Basically a mini pc once jailbroken. Japanese catalogue is nuts.... so many unreleased games
