Northern Animism and Esoterica in one video... I don't think my brain be able to handle all the mind blowing thoughts in this video..

Great work Rune! One of the areas which is often overlooked, especially in the traditional rune stones, but also in runic jewellery, is the ornamental art itself such as the ornamentation of the dragon, the lindisworms and the fettering of the dragon into the stone. I spent an afternoon with a rune stone master carver (Kalle Dahlberg) on the island of Adelso and we spoke at length how there are few runologist who have studied the ornamentations and their deeper significance and few would have ever touched a chisel and a hammer. Who are the beasts that are holding the runes in its claws and bodies? They are pointing directly to the mythical background, the lindisworms with their linden trees and the dragons themselves. I think artists working with ornamentation today would have a lot to contribute to this conversation and especially the animistic and alive part of the runes. On the rune stone, when you behold it, you feel how the dragon plays a part in waking up the inscription, protecting it and making it come alive - a big magical act!

I will say meditations on the runes that I got from the Rune Gild have showed me a lot. Images and scenes play themselves out. It's as though the Rune is showing you something important.

I love runes from an aesthetic perspective. I know there's a lot more to them than that, and that people like them for different reasons, but from a design perspective, they're beautiful and that's what attracts me.

I am finding your idea of dialogue-ing with the Runes to be useful on a personal level. I realized I have done this with esoteric tarot and oracle cards to some degree, but intuitively. I have read several books on runes. some inscriptions are just writing and some are clearly not, but I had not been able to connect with them on that deeper level. Now I’m like “why didn’t I think of that?” Yeah, the academic view puts blinders on you. Brilliant video. I’m looking forward to applying “dialogue-ing” to Icelandic magic, Greek, Sanskrit, Latin alphabets and other things I’ve read over the years. Thank you so much!

I love Esoterica, and had no idea y’all knew each other. It makes sense because you both are dedicated to looking at things through an authentic, academic lens. I’ll definitely be checking out his contributions to this discussion. I definitely want to read that Long Branches book you recommended. Take care.

I think that there is an assumed contradiction between keeping silent and speaking about Runework. From my perspective I understand and work with the Runes as vættir, as spirits, and recognize that to a certain degree the secrets They have keep themselves. Now that's not to say we should blab about every little insight or personal experience we have with Them, but it also doesn't mean that dialoguing with like-minded folks will do us or the processes of engaging with the Runes any harm.

I'd agree the 4th wave already begun, now that there's a great exchange of information made possible through the internet. My early introduction to runes was through Flowers. I know his works aren't prefect, but he really was a forerunner for many people with his experimental magical concepts to open the door for new ideas to emerge decades later, for better or worse depending on who you ask, but he helped keep the interest alive either way.

The most important approach to runes is to consider them for divination last. Meditation and toning them with the interpretation of the oral traditions. Then live the meaning by personal experoence for a few years. Remember to find these runes in nature.
@BobTrappofIowa7 ай бұрын
Years ago, I was happy to find anything that would help get me started. There weren't any neighborhood elders wishing to share their secrets (as far as I knew). But I agree that the sources could have been better. To many seemed to be making promises and trying to come off absolute experts. I would have been better served by a mixture to academic "here's what we really know so far" and spiritual "go looking for the rest". In any event, we need to make all of the introductory stuff and writing more "normal" and main stream so it can be available for those who want to follow the path and to take it back from the white supremacists.

Thanks for the share brother , Much info and good advice I dare say . I find a truth to your thought about groups seeking to reemerge , not only is there widely different takes , the direction some take is different from each . Yet I can’t help but admire and have some respect for them , I think I take a shamans or alchemical approach to it . I know that old beliefs say pagan Greek , Italian , Sufi , Hebrew , Gnostic at one time seen deities as forces of cosmos which in turn are projections of the subconscious outwardly into the world . These forces then evolved into a sophisticated relations with number , ( not the pseudo astrology , numerology , or what ever BS ) as in Pythagorean music of spheres etc and ties into Perennial Philosophy . I suppose this emerged with rise of King Alexander , when people across the world study together and consciousness moved beyond simply believing deities as forces of nature and seen them as masked representations for force and form of both our inward self and outer world . What will emerge of European/Norse/Animism belief , perhaps mutual respect of all people yet different schools emerge with slightly different usage . Sorry , said more the I wanted to . I guess I have another book to get 😎 , thank you for your work and thanks to all the people whom there wisdom . Take care and be well ✝️

Runes are interesting because they are definitely similar to cunnieform, but not as elaborate as Hieroglyphics or Mayan writing systems. I wonder if there has been some comparison to cunnieform in deciphering it…

Thank you. 👍 i am glad people have made up the spiritual meanings for the runes. From Johannes Bureus onwards to many others a non academic path has been layed down for people to gain insight into their purpose other than lettering. I also am saddened about the way materialism has treated knowledge but also believe that without evolution we would still be living in caves. We will have to ask Odin. Or ourselves. 😁👍❤️🇬🇧

What the rune requires is understanding and meaning. My thing is understanding and meaning more than wisdom, but my son was born with a very old wisdom, from thhe North, part of our dna even though we don't live in the north, it comes through the dna.. At present I get overloaded, like with youtube with all these videos try to communicate wht it will, it can get all too much. Sometimes its like trying to process a tidal wave. For me its not so much about understanding the letters, its just about listening to the silent communication and waiting for it to communciate with you and what it wants you to know and learn, what it needs to tell you and you need to hear. I don't need the letters or any physical object the communication just comes and I prefer that. Like with the number 24, to me relates to the days and time. 4 x 24 is 4 days. I have my own way of the meaning of the numbers and I stay within that, because it can get all too much, when you try and add what comes through other people. For me silence is a way of life, people find it hard because I am a communciator, born into silence and belong to the people of silence and my silent nation and live constant in silence, silence just communicates, sometimes you need to hear the sound of a human voice and just have human commuication and interaction, particularly when you are remote. At present its about listening, people just want to be heard but sometimes they need to listen. For me I am overlistened, so I rest an tell the communication to shush.

I love this! I am a professional rune reader. I work at a lot of psychic fairs in the Seattle, Washington area (USA). I am always the only rune reader. I agree with your suggestion about communing with the runes. I have spent much time meditating on each rune in order to understand the liminal meaning that each runic symbol has to offer. I have developed my own method of divination that I have not found in any book. I’ve noticed that some ancient alphabets have letters that hold both an energetic as well as phonetic meaning. Sanskrit and Hebrew are good examples of this. So, I believe it’s entirely plausible that the Futhark letters do too. Most people have NOT heard of runes and are often startled and even frightened by them. There are also people who are so moved by them that they are inspired to go out and study them. (I don’t teach them) I understand your frustration with the new age movement. But, I also see many people struggling to find a spiritual path because contemporary religions have failed them. I believe that the animist traditions may help to fill this void for people in ways that the New Age movement can’t quite do. I found you from listening to The Esoterica talk on Runes. Super excited to find you! I will be signing up for your Rune class as soon as it’s available.
@paganbanjo7 ай бұрын
I agree that many as you nicely put it, are "looking to find a path because contemporary religions have failed them." As people working in this I think it's important that we avoid the temptation to try to reinvent everything as a single individual all at once. It will take communities generations to recover a nuanced and varied worldview supported by deep-rooted rituals. So we have our personal insights, share them appropriately in close relations, and the good stuff will stick through the generations.
@crushinnihilism4 ай бұрын
I read them semi professionally as well. I completely disagree with most of what this guy has to say. I've learned more from the practices in Flowers work than all the proper academics I'm supposed to read. We have a tradition. We have a rune gild. There are rune master in the gild doing real work. They're not slandering others for views and money. Nordic is one of the largest gatekeepers that constantly puts down people like myself who work out of metaphysical shops because I'm not credited by a university power system. He also calls anyone right of a Nazi. It's honestly disgusting behavior, and it holds us heathens back.
@home86307 ай бұрын
The runes aren't saying very much at present, because they are resting, its a shush time. What is needed is a communicator, not any sort of one, at the right time, the right one will come, but now its shush.

to be fair to Ralph Blum he received a "rune set" with 24 tiles inscribed with the fuþark & an extra blank tile when he set out the tiles, the 25 tiles formed a "perfect magical square" my opinion is that the blank tile should be replaced by something more significant

@@sandra.helianthus Anybody who speaks on decolonial spirituality (the reason I and so many others watch this channel) and does not speak against a colonial project, apartheid, turned into an ongoing genocide, fully supported by the West, has lost the plot.
