On 2011 RSBot and iBot were the two most popular RuneScape bots in the world. Combined they were estimated to account for 98% of the bots in game. Jagex was still working on the first bot nuke to try and remove them but needed a solution a little more direct and as a result took iBot to court. This is the story behind iBot and how instead of backing down the creators chose to fight Jagex in a multi-million dollar lawsuit that spanned two years.

@@jager_123 actually courts can reverse previous decisions. The 2nd case likely didn’t have the same judge, so he or she may have looked at the case differently then the judge in the 1st case. Not to mention Jagex had likely filed the correct US copyright paperwork by the time of the 2nd lawsuit, something they didn’t do before the 1st one. Many factors go into the outcome of a lawsuit. Jagex probably presented the argument from a different angle, with a different judge, with more supporting documentation during 2nd trial, which could be why they won that time. I highly doubt bribery was involved.

I remember being pumped at first after the bot nuke, but then I suddenly felt kind of alone in the game because the amount of active players was cut in half. Like it gave me the sudden realization how few actual people were playing the game. Still a decent amount, but it was no where near what I thought it was.

The info that Jagex was awarded was personal information on all the people who made scripts, ie name and address. They got the info due to the people making the scripts were being payed by Ibot's owners. They are considered employees as they were being payed a cut of the profit, which is legal information to get. It was likely used to sue or scare them away from the game at the very least.

Used RSBot for many years and real world traded - never got banned. Bought hundreds of millions, bought accounts, sold money, sold services easy.

I used RSbot, Powerbot and Dreambot since like 2007 and only got a 2 day ban once in like 2009. I don't think Jagex cares if you bot combat stats on a pure, or bot a couple mill to buy supplies because most pures do that. The problem comes in bot farms that influence the economy.

Jagex is stupid for these mass bot nukes, it helped the game in so many ways: by doing the tedious tasks normal players don't have to and will get great prices for supplies, it gives a sense to the players that the game is more popular than it really is, and also think of all the membership money Jagex made from those bots

OSRS has 9.7k current live viewers on Twitch which imo is pretty good for a game thats how old now? Like it has more live viewers than Rocket League, Valorant, World of Tanks and Warships, Smite, Destiny 2, War Thunder and even one of the most popular games out right now... Animal Crossing. Considering its just a point and click game its doing pretty decent

Rsbuddy was one of the best botting sites. Those were the good days. It took them literally 7-10 days to recover from the bot nuke, which was completely amazing. It took other botting sites 2-4 weeks to do the same results.

I'm pretty sure you can't sue someone for the same crime more than once in the US, but, maybe I'm wrong. Sounds like something fishy happened on the second time Jagex tried to sue. If anything, the botters violated the agreement. There was a way the botters could have done this without courts getting involved, but, this shows the botters were nothing but spoiled man children.

Oh shit I guess that was how I got banned then. I used to bot on one of my accounts back in the day using a paid sorc garden bot i got from my friend. I never got banned while all this bot nuke stuff was happening, but I got banned when i wasn't active on the account anymore. I tried to login one day and it said my account was disabled, i checked the message center and seen the perm ban and the date it was issued and it was indeed months after i stopped playing on that account. I sent an appeal but to no avail.

No. Just old school graphics. You can get OSbuddy pro and play in OpenGL which is sort of like it. Although even with my beefy i7-7700k cpu and 32GB of ram... OSbuddy didn’t run too well. Had a lot of input lag. I use RuneLite. Way way wayyyy better client IMO.

The simple answer is because it was not a criminal case, it was a civil case brought by Jagex themselves and not criminal charges brought by a state or federal prosecutor. Double jeopardy only applies in criminal cases, civil cases like the one Jagex brought have no double jeopardy statute.

Got like 110 99's botting on rs back in the 2006-2012 era, always botted very sporadically and with breaks. I remember getting an email saying they knew I was botting and gave me one chance lol. I never did bot again but they never banned me. Same accounts running on oldschool to this day all legit. I think jagex just underestimates how well their game could do if it was more afk. People would pay money just to watch their bank and exp build up, combat would be the main part of the game and skills would be more afk like one of those click games.

Man it sucks how jagex is so against botting... I dont bot and never will, but I mean it brings players to the game and it helps people's skills which would help someone get more invested into the game.

2:20 Copyright infringement? Their bot didn't have any of the jagex files within it, they couldn't sue under those grounds. if they had a good lawyer they could have beat Jagex. Even if they did lose, they can make their bot open source and other people will fork off their work to keep it going forever.

I got like 4 of my accounts to 99 fishing and had my main with over 100k lobsters and tuna/swordfish. They never stopped working... And I just stacked up day after day..... It was fun pking with free money. But I did get hacked here and there. Plus 2 of my favorite accounts banned. Was it worth it.? No. Did I have fun. Yeah.

I dont agree with botting, but I don't agree with the court's decision either, it's a fucking game, it's jagex's responsibility to stop botters, there shouldn't be real life repercussions for things you do in the game, that sets a huge precedent. Next thing you know they'll get a kid to court over exploiting a pvp glitch or something

It was not 90%+ RSbuddy was huge before the botnuke and consumed a large portion of the bots in game.. That was false information given, I'd say RSBuddy and Ibot combined had 70% and Rsbot had 20% of the bots in game
