In ui elements, tabs, loading screens that they are going to artificially include and they are going to make them mandatory just how it works, so now when you log in the world select screen will have 1-2 ad banners top bottom when you tab over to world select screen ads on the sides banner style, when you slow teleport it will now give you a black screen with an ad on it for the whole animation, when you go to edit your character in appearance/customization tab, stuff like that, wanna skip a clue puzzle here’s a 1 minute long ad you can watch first it will be 3/day then they will take the limit off because they will say there are a lot of people complaining about the limit and it works out for both of us so it’s a win/win. They will do everything you can think of and more, they will raise the rates of the non-ad membership even more because they will be earning more from the ads than the memberships at some point.

You'd be surprised how many people have tons of characters. They have: A main max level character with everything in the game done that they use to pay for all of their other characters via in game money, a (sometimes a few) player killing character(s) that have to be in a specific combat level bracket to appear weak but actually be very strong for their apparent level, an ironman character (a game mode where you don't trade, basically playing an MMO as a single player game), an ultimate ironman (an ironman with no access to banks or most item storage methods), a hardcore ironman (an ironman that can never die or it becomes a normal ironman), a group ironman (up to 5 ironman characters that can only trade items within their group, not with other players), a "scout" account they use as a camera when playing in PvP areas, so their main can escape danger (though this is usually one of their PKing chars), ... the list goes on, but after this point they usually just use their PKing characters for whatever one off purpose they have. We as a community have been pushing for an extra character at a discount price for a while now. IMO it makes no sense to pay full price to play a single player ironman in addition to my main when it could easily be "hey thanks for playing so much on your main, have a 30% discount to try an ironman mode." Also, they've already gone and back pedaled on some of this stuff, just like you got into at the end of your video. Everyone on the subreddit is saying the same stuff lol

Several commenters have mentioned moving to private servers - recently lots of RSPS have been hit with the legal stick. Jagex's finance team wants their upcoming brand of private servers (project Zanaris) to be successful, and want us to pay a premium price for it! Sad to see that price increases have been steady, and people who have been playing consistently for a reasonable cost are being pushed away. This is a financial strategy fit for shovelware mobile games.

Little explanation on the higher 2nd character price: Last year, jagex started to encourage people to link multiple characters to their jagex account for increased security. Yeah, I hope this will happen. But usually private servers are meh, or add lots of unwanted features and changes. The only thing I found which is faithful to the game was Open RSC, but it's based on Runescape Classic. You can find everything you need online to set up a server for RSC, exactly as it was back in 2003. So if OSRS eventually dies, I will play this probably. I managed to host the server locally on my PC so I can play single player offline lol.

The ads question seem completely silly. OSRS is a game that has tons of afk, and advertisers hate paying for their ads to play to people who are afk. It's such a bad fit for the game, that it almost seems like a red herring, so that the company can alleviate players concerns that "we will never include ads in OSRS," while tying that to a sneaky price hike.

Playing OSRS is like sticking around in an abusive relationship. Sure, there’s some good parts to any relationship, the questing, leveling, and sandbox nature of the game can be fun, but after a while you are just addicted like a cookie clicker and justify all the terrible gameplay and slot machine nature of it that just wears you down because the game does stop beating you up once in a while with a rare drop or you keep telling yourself to just stick it out a little longer because you are so close to making a number bigger. Just stick it out a little longer, just endure the abuse, you’ve grown accustomed to it. It’s comforting knowing that someone wants you around all the time, you can’t go to work, watch a movie, or even use the bathroom without keeping them close or you’ll be punished for missing XP. When you eventually “take a break” from the relationship and play other games you quickly see what a good game actually is and realize how you’ve been paying all the bills while simultaneously being abused and now your partner is cheating on you and is demanding money to satisfy their new investment company. Then your ex comes back with a new update, you think they’ve changed, however when you go play the update you see nothing has changed, it’s just the same old grindy behavior kicking you over and over and occasionally being nice to you with a cool new item that really isn’t that great but it’s only +1 and it’s now the best in slot. But you can’t give up on the relationship you’ve invested so much time in it to stop that push to getting 99 in all skills even though you really don’t enjoy it.

This is usually the biggest contributing factory in whether or not investors will dump millions into a company or not. How disappointing I quit osrs a while ago but as a fan from a distance with nostalgic warm feelings it’s so sad they sold out and are screwing the players

the next thing for me to do in OSRS is the inferno, so i fell off because I struggled to dedicate the time to learn it. I had locked in 12 months last April (and only played for a few months lol) but dang reading this is absolutely nuts, this could seriously be the end of OSRS with ads in the game
