God bless you John! What a wonderful video! One quick tip though: I would consider buying the newer version of the camera kit, the 'Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter' because it charges your device while using the different apps connected to the keyboards. I use a similar setup to this as well!
@robr4713 жыл бұрын
I tried it with camera kit the charging port, and it will periodically trigger additional key strikes, not always but every 10 to 15 minutes while playing I'll hear an additional note played when my fingers were not on the keys. I thought it was the midi controller, or the app but then tried multiple apps (sampletank, garage band, Korg module) and same thing would happen, I then tried it with my m-audio and novation controller and the same thing. I upgraded the noname camera/charging adapter to an official apple adapter and it happens less frequent but it wasn't till I noticed that your phone was not charging at the time that you did these presentations that I tried unplugging my phone charger and it seems to have corrected the problem. Just figured I'd share this if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Thanks for the videos.

Thank you very much John for sharing this. I hope some app developers pick this up and come with a wrapper app concept that allows for "workstation like" capabilities to have program changes/easy changes of sounds, layers and splits and possibly effects? I think four boards opens up a way of possibilities to have multiple sounds going, but a single or dual board set up should allow for easy changes of sounds too. Thinking of that: have you considered using the features found on some master keyboards to send program changes and configure layers to actually have different apps running over the keyboard? Would require each app to have its own midi channel, but would very well be feasible. Keep up the good work! Enjoying your videos from the Netherlands, Europe.

John Mike - Not sure it is dope but for us older folks it's pretty cool. I have been enjoying my iPad with MKS, Korg Module etc. but have had serious latency challenges. Seeing this I am pretty sure that the problem is a result of my hardware, using a 20 year old Korg N264, and standard midi cables, with their low transfer rate. If you can run 4 devices using USB connections on an older iPhone, then I should be back in business when my Novation Launchkey 61 arrives soon. Thanks for you great work. God Bless You Michael Brandon

I am just discovering your videos!! This is freakin' awesome!! I just setup my first software instrument small rig and had a little latency. You have zero latency. So, I went took a look at mine after watching your videos. I was able to figure out what was causing the latency. I was listening via wireless headphones (I live with others who aren't musicians). I switched to wired ones and boom no more latency. You unintentionally solved my problem!!

So, it was only yesterday that you or one of your prescribers subscribers told me how to get just the synthesizer sound out of my iPad and not the voice From the Yamaha P125 at the same time. I was told just turn the volume down. BAM WOW that worked. So excited. Now I know this video is three years old. But I only found you a few days ago on KZbin. And you are telling me with One iPad I can use multiple keyboards and get different voices from each? I am going back to watch this again. Mostly to see if you used more than one program or it had to be a single program to be able to control more than one keyboard. Btw my 2nd & only other keyboard I have is a Clavinova 330M perhaps M330.

Very neat. What sample buffer values do you use for the apps? In my case with the default buffer sizes on my iPad (256 samples) the playing feels sluggish because of latency. 128 samples is better but I can only use one app before getting pops and clicks. 64 samples is unusable even with one app because of pops and clicks. I use a Korg plugkey into an iPad mini Core A7
@Johnmike7 жыл бұрын
+Bruno Gaeta if have to go look but it's on whatever the default setting is...I've never really messed with my buffer settings...but the iPad mini 1st gen is getting a bit "long in the tooth" for things like this

Thanks ! 2 questions though: 1) The way you've set it up, the iPhone can't be charged while being connected to the keys, can it ? 2) You're calling the iMaschine beat a "click track" but is it really ? As i don't see a way how you could get the audio out seperately in order to hear it on your monitors/headphones but not FOH.
@Johnmike5 жыл бұрын
1. The adapter I used in this video was the older one apple made...the newest one actually has a charge port on it as well... 2. In gospel we commonly refer to the “drum loop” as a “click track” as it serves the purpose for us staying on time like a metronome would...so with the loop there is really no need to route it separate because it’s going to the house and it’s going to our ears and it’s keeping us on time...now when I run stems or multitracks I route the metronome click to my ears only...I have another vid somewhere on this channel showing how I do that

That's cool John! By the way, have you ever tried running 2 or more keyboards but using only 1 app? I want to know if you can run multi channel midi at the same time. I'm new in regards to midi controller and on tight budget for multiple apps. I've heard a little about audiobus and AUM apps, but I'm curious if you can play it straight without audiobus or AUM. Thanks!
@Johnmike7 жыл бұрын
Yesaya M.A. Adijaya hadn't really tried it yet honestly...but I'm not really sure of any app out there that will let you do that...I will research soon and if I find something I'll definitely do a video on it
@DavidCobb20116 жыл бұрын
Yesaya M.A. Adijaya Hi, I have Sample Tank, and in ‘Multi’ mode, you get 8 positions where you can add any sound from its library - and assign each one... a different midi channel, a keyboard note range, volume, pan, effects, and more. You can save individual setups etc. It is very powerful. I have a single keyboard with a ‘multi’ that has bass on the first octave, then layered piano and pad up higher. My keyboard also has pads, so I assigned drum sounds to them. Look up Sample Tank Multis on KZbin. There’s a great couple of videos. Good luck. :-)

Hi David, thanks for your feedback. I also have Sample Tank but I probably skip the multi mode. I will surely check it :)

Hi John! Thanks for posting! You mentioned you use an iPhone 6, does it not work on a 6s ? Also, would you know if it would work with a Novation Impulse 61, since it is usb powered? I contacted Novation's support and they told me I "may run into powering issues". They could not tell me for sure if a powered usb hub would work. Thanks! Keep it up

If milliamps provided by hub > milliamps required by controller, you win. I have to use a powered hub for my Akai Mini, or iOS simply shuts it down as too hungry. My Keystation 49 ES (just like in the vid) works w/out the hub, just off the camera kit, though.

Dope! John Mike, I have a question. I've been using my iPhone 6 and 7 interchangeably, running 2 apps simultaneously (MKSensation and Korg Module... sometimes, Korg Gadget). When it all works, it goes off without a hitch. But... here's where my issue comes in. I'll be playing and randomly...out of nowhere... the most high pitched, annoying sound (similar to digital feedback) comes out of nowhere! I then have to kill my volume or get to the panic button as quickly as possible so I don't lose my job! lol I LOVE the ease and convenience of iOS. It was GREAT while it lasted but, after having this issue a couple times, unfortunately, i've had to shut that setup down. I use a Korg PlugKey as audio/MIDI interface. Have you ever heard of this type of thing happening or what it could possibly be? 🤔
@Johnmike7 жыл бұрын
+KeezOfLife sorry for the delayed response I've been in and out of town the last week or so and I'm just now getting to sit down and answer questions....I'm really not too sure...the issue sounds like it might be with the interface possibly? But still not totally sure there...I've never had this issue...I would try it with a different audio interface and see how that works...
@CMane7 жыл бұрын
No worries man. I went back and troubleshot again. I'm using a Yamaha Motif XS8 as my controller. The 'high-pitched' sound I was hearing was actually one note stuck in a high range playing through the MK...like a note-on malfunction. The keyboard itself is in good, working condition, with no sticky notes. I then tapped the panic button on MK and it stopped. I notice that it happens mostly if I move any of the 8 faders up or down on the Motif. I'll be moving them freely...and all of a sudden...weeeeeeeee....note-on malfunction out of nowhere. Hit the panic. So, something in the Motif is triggering something in the MKSensation and causing this to happen. I just can't figure out what it may be. I'll try another interface and see what happens. Thanks

5 years later. I am wondering if this still works. In my experience there must have been some change in what Apple sees as „compliant“. What do I mean? My usb-to-5-Pin-adapter and a USB-Midicable are not recognized anymore as they used to be. Talking the step from iPhone 5 to an iPhone 8 and within that the update to iOS15. Which also included the missing earphone-plug.. But maybe I just have to keep buying the latest of everything all the time..
