Running Home With All Sails Poled Out!

So Neptune finally looked dwo on us this season, giving us the perfect wind to test out our sails at last in sunshine made for summer!!!
In the last video we ran all the way down to the bottom of the lake and literally over lunch, the wind veers to give us perfect running conditions all the way home.
We get about 4-6KTS of wind with gentle gusts to send us sailing with all our sails poled out at an average of 3Knots. have we finally got this Drascombe Lugger to move in light wind?
The Spinnaker definitely makes a difference and, although still not perfect, it pulls us gently but firmly along. It'smuch better than the jib running, poled out like this.
The Mizzen also makes a small but noticable difference.
So late in the season to have this kind of weather. I had to pinch myself!!

It's amazing just how calm reaching is. You can belt down the lake beating like a bat out of hell and then you gybe and it's so serene!!

Hi Dave you should look into making dyneema soft shackles to replace those big clunky noisy stainless steel ones. Easier to use than tying knots. Thoroughly enjoying all your vids.

I have some! I have a couple of sizes too and they're great but for some reason I seem to be persevering with the shackles!! The snap shackles are great for the clew and tack of the mainsail as they allow me to stow the main away, even with the boom attached, very quickly. However that one on the clew that attaches the sail to the boom is a PITA!!! I will try a soft shackle and see.

Hi Chris. Been ailing the Menai the last few days, the music in this video is on Epidemic sound and is called "Midnight Safari" by Lupus. I quite love the '80's remake sound and use it a lot. I htink the series Stranger things on Netflix has to take responsibility for that!!!
