Not trying to hate him or defend Gukesh. But recently I heard that this world championship was the most accurate in history and I didn't get how this could be true. I remembered Magnus and Fabi drawing for 14 straight games in classical, and the reason that wasn't the most accurate championship was exactly due to this reason. Either player wasn't taking a risk. So then I realized it's easy to get high accuracy if you aren't even trying to push and just trying to play solidly. The reason the current championship is being considered as the most accurate is because of the players' fighting spirit. They are taking risks instead of just playing solid main lines. This didn't apply to this 9th round. Gukesh's opening idea was well explored and the slight twist wasn't enough to put that much pressure and the little chance he had he didn't choose it due to his misjudment .

Great show you three! Stockfish says this game was played at: Ding 99.5% accuracy Gukesh 99.2% accuracy, and that the average accuracy in the match so far is Ding 95.8% accuracy Gukesh 95.3% accuracy. I have decided only to watch GM Hikaru's recap and this one, they both have the best understanding when accuracy is so near perfect. The common idea of Hikaru, Magnus and Levy I found as follows: * Gukesh should have tried another opening. Ding is too familiar with the Catalan. This led to "Easy Moves" for Ding, that there was not enough pressure. The fact that they played a perfect game is not going to win the Match. As Magnus said, "It's absolutely useless if he doesn't pose Ding any pressure. * The time trouble the Ding gets into and then comes back is stated by both. What I get from this is that Ding plays better intuitively, and that may be a problem for Gukesh is they get into a Blitz tiebreaker. I already saw the advertisement for Anna vs. Odin, and when 40 years old is OLD, well...I will shut my mouth on how ancient I am...older than Pia.

ding has a good strategy. He knows gukesh is too young to have intuitive strength for faster format of chess. So he is planning to draw the classical part of the playoff. It is a really smart approach. It is far easier to play for a draw, given Gukesh's strength of deep calculation why even play for a win in classical when he will be so much easier to take down in rapid. The only reason I come here to here is for a honest unfiltered opinion from magnus.

@curio78
@curio78 21 күн бұрын
@@AhsanGaming133 Its all about repetition, which eventually becomes pattern memory. That is all intuition is, Gukesh is far too young to have hard wired enough of it. Now this is not the same as magnus, because there Magnus is a different thing, a freakish working -long term memory capacity. Which means he can memorize patterns. Magnus calls its intuition, but no its his freakish memory. And his ridiculous working memory means he can process more short depth lines very very quickly. But also means he is compensating for the relatively normal deep line calculations with years of built up game memory. Gukesh will take time to build that and he does not have that working memory advantage so he is unlikely to be the top in speed chess. Argun seems to exhibit a little more of it but not at magnus level. Now alireza is a product countless hours of online play drilling those patterns into memory. But he has the issue at the other end. which is deep analysis. I have seen alireza stumble of simple lines if he has not encountered them before. Which is why I think he is there product of drilling through so many games.
@AhsanGaming133
@AhsanGaming133 21 күн бұрын
@ Alireza built his intuition as a child like 12 years of age, gukesh is 18 which is too old to build that type of intuition as you say, at best he can be an ‘average’ 2700 player

Historically, Ding has been hard to beat with that 100 game unbeaten run, and I think we are seeing how hard he is to beat, even when he's only playing at 80%. He seems to have improved on his 2024 tournament results. Gukesh is still the favourite though.
@Phantom_Zone
@Phantom_Zone 22 күн бұрын
I feel like Ding's play style is more or less a soft counter to Gukesh's playstyle. Like at lower time Ding gets a boost on his defense. If Gukesh let this go to tie break, there is a legitimate threat Ding would win. The fact that Gukesh was such an overwhelming favorite yet Ding is holding on is a sight to behold.
@GaugeSymm
@GaugeSymm 22 күн бұрын
Gukesh is now only a slight favorite, and not because of his chess skills but rather because of fighting spirit, Gukesh will try hard to push every game now and Ding's defense will likely crumble, if not, then Ding probably wins the rapid tie-breaks.

There comes criticisms whatever moves these guys make. They are between a rock and a hard place. The difference in magnus's matches was that both Sergey and fabi in their matches just didn't wanna play a game against him, going for extremely concrete lines and trying to out prep him, therefore leading to many draws. Iain tried playing against magnus and was crushed, and so was Anand in his two matches against carlsen. As hikaru mentioned that magnus has one of best feel of the game and therefore no one wants to. actually play him, they just try to out prep him in an extremely concrete line. On the other hand Ding's lack of confidence in his classical ability is stopping him for pressing for wins in better positions, he is overthinking too much, basically he is seeing ghost.

I agree. People are overly critical. Gukesh is doing his part as the challenger - taking risks, pressing. Ding is doing his part as the defending champion- defending, and bringing the match toward a point where he has an advantage (the rapid tie breakers). Both players are trying to execute their strategy without overextending themselves or taking too much risk, which is extremely fair, they’re following their plans. There are still many games left for one to begin to execute their strategy better than the other.

GMs can each play at 99 if the opponent doesn't put any pressure on. They basically have 10 good moves each turn. Against stockfish, which always puts maximum pressure on your position, they would not get anywhere near 90%, and would lose every single game without exception. Accuracy is just an artificial metric for human learners. For stockfish, there is only one best move it plays and countless wrong moves in every position

@@studyonly9994 Carlsen's statement is independent of how he would've played, it's merely an assessment on *Gukesh's* chances of winning the match. About the comparison between Magnus x Fabi and Ding x Gukesh, when it comes to the influence on their chances by going to tie breaks, Magnus is much more akin to Ding than to Gukesh: at that moment in their careers, Carlsen and Caruana were pretty much equal in classical chess (the then-world champion had an advantage of 3 points of rating over the challenger), while there being a clear disparity in rapid and blitz. Thus, being on the opposite side of the situation, even if you limit the credibility of his words by his experience, he knows first-hand how tie breaks can transform a +0, =12, -0 score into a +3, =0, -0 (and, by extension, a +0, =0, -3) one.

While other top GMs are perhaps just as confident in their own analysis as Magnus is, I have to assume - because he's still world #1 - that his analysis is still the best. I wonder if the solidity and sureness of his understanding came from his early tendency to be independent as a youngster learning chess. He even limited his coaching sessions with Kasparov because he just wouldn't buy into the particular training regime Kasparov was pushing. And earlier than that, they say he spent a lot of time (I hear like Fischer did) actually playing games against himself, and analyzing by himself. In a lot of fields, people can become excellent technicians by following structured training regimes laid out by others, but perhaps "self discovery" might still be the best way to develop truly deep understanding of a subject.

@wizzraa I am of the opinion that given his use of the word, "morally" he was looking for an adjective form of the word "morale". But that was a whole lot of videos ago, and I don't really want to go searching for the spot to hear it again. Your suggestion seems to make good sense as well. I just wanted to point out the train of thought that led me there.

@ConClasher3 Yes, I love that the meek, likable Ding who was written off by them all is proceeding nice and quietly, without all this "alpha male" stuff. All that is very much a western thing; the banter, the testosterone driven posturing, etc. Magnus stepped away because he couldn't handle the commitment any more, and his fear of losing, despite being stronger, as was a possibility against Karjakin, sort of took the wind out of his sails. So whoever is prepared to put in the effort will be the true World Champion, and that will be the person who prevails over a long stressful classical match .... not a bunch of rapid or blitz games, even if it ultimately comes to that.

Magnus is incredibly articulate and seems like a normal guy who just happens to he a super chess wizard. We have grown to expect geniuses to behave extremely wierdly full of nervous tiks. Magnus doesn't display any nervous tiks physically or mentally which is a good surprise. Testament to his excellent upbringing. His Johnny Bravo hair is hilarious but why not. Levi's hairline is going crazy for 29 year old but bro works hard so i understand. Happy birthday boys. Kaja's energy is unmatched doing the full game coverage and post game is crazy but she does it so well. I've been following the world championship for first time ever and the take take take app is not bad at all especially for such a new app. Why not stream KZbin coverage on the app too? Congrats to all the team.

I really want Gukesh to win but the closer we get to the ending the more I think Ding might pull a repeat of 2023. And win sort of last second to avoid tie breaks. Which isn't something I want to see happen ever again... people can say this is more exciting but that's pure cope to me. Which is a real shame. I keep watching these games seeing Gukesh with an advantage only for it to disappear by the time I come back. And not to take away anything from everybody's favorite Ding - but these draws have less to do due with Dings defensive prowess as they do with Gukesh just sabotaging his chances.

It's kind of hilarious to hear Magnus in these recaps. He clearly does not think much of either Gukesh or Ding. He is not impressed and he's giving off a "I would crush either one of these guys" vibe. Basically, Magnus is saying without saying "This is why I have no interest in playing a classical world championship anymore. Nobody can match me and it's obvious with every game Gukesh and Ding play".
