I've always been a Left sock first (and sock-sock-shoe-shoe like a NORMAL person) person. But to extend this, over a period of about 3 months I found myself AMAZED that I was picking out the left sock (with a "L" label) first. It became a habit not to even look at the label on the right sock, as I didn't want to break the run of good luck. Then, one day, I accidentally noticed both socks were labelled "L"eft...or actually....."L"arge! 😲😲😆😆😆😆

I must say that you guys have really nailed this format, now. I'm actually enjoying the podcasts as much if not more than some of the weekly videos. The chemistry and quality of information is great, even when it's fun and light-hearted. Keep it up, gang!

Didn't realise you were running Valencia in December, Andy. I'm signed up for it and it's my first ever marathon! Hoping to go around 3:30 and the training block starts in August...dreading it but buzzing at the same time if that's at all possible!

Every time I have a big race I actually personally buy a new pair of socks for it as it just feels fresh. Also got to have a shower before hand even I had already had one on the morning and it is a night race I still have a shower before the race

I have a question for the podcast! Why do running coach/vids (sometimes even you guys) constantly and casually switch between KMs and miles when they talk about distances? Eg. “If you’re training for a 10km, then your long run should be 8-15 miles” 🤯. It’s so confusing! Everyone does it so casually like it’s nothing. Why!? 😭😭😭. Can’t you just stick to one (ideally KMs) 🥺..

I have only ever tied my running shoe laces once, when I first wear them. I tie them tight enough that they have never come un-done. You said this is bad, but why? I have had many shoes over the years and never seemed to have an issue so far

Speaking of superstitions, hockey players consider it bad luck to wash their hockey gear. Some runners feel the same way; they don't wash their kits, or their lucky socks.

cyclists have found a large advantage from aero socks. I wonder if they could save a couple seconds per marathon, or if the mass of the socks would be worse than the tiny aero benefit? :D

I'm sock shoe sock shoe psycho, it's mainly to keep my newly socked foot from touching the dirty ground. Not really a running superstition though, just a thing I do. 🤣

What defines the difference between a habit and a superstition?
@whitehorsebricks2670 Жыл бұрын
I would say the first is something you do as part of your routine. A superstition you fear something bad/unlucky happening if you don't do it.

I think an small, but significant distinction needs to be made between a superstition and a compulsion. There are things people do with no "magical power" invested in the practice. It's just something you feel you must do. That would be a compulsion, but not necessarily a superstition. It becomes a superstition when you think the practice is invested with some mystical magical power. Personally, I have a few compulsions, but don't think of myself as superstitious.
