Came here from the Kripal book review....I'm slowly working my way through all your vids, Mark. My dreams are also typically jumbled....and what I think of as "balancing" after the kinds of unbalancing that can sometimes be part of my life and my work...which can be stressful at times. But I do cherish my memory of a single dream I had some years back that was clearly full of symbols...and it was amazing for its technicolor movie clarity..and it had music...in Spanish, a language I don't speak....it became an obsession for a little while to identify the song...which was very uplifting....and it gave the dream experience a real sense of spiritual buoyancy, if you will. This was well before the iPhone apps...and indeed before the high speed net. For a month it was a real puzzle...I could remember the tune and a few lyrics.......I talked about the dream and the puzzle with several friends who spoke Spanish, looking for clues. Eventually I was able to ID the song.....which was a crossover pop tune by a Spanish group in the 60's...which I had undoubtedly heard many times....but it had sunk deeply into my subconscious mind and been forgotten. I'm still tempted to think the dream had great significance for me personally. I should book an appointment with you and see what you and Dr. Jung would say about it...one of these days. :)

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a fresh look on dreams. I think we could have an interesting chat about them.

Easily the best thing to do, imho, is note down any dreams and free associate around the imagery, figures, mood, what you intuitively know about what happened. Any dream is your own and your psyche is the authority on it.

Mark/Rupert, Jung talked about dreams as being 'complimentary' as well as 'compensatory'. Compensatory refers to balancing what the ego thinks it is. I'm not so clear on what complimenting means

I think it's complementary as in completing something, or making it whole, in the psyche. Homeostasis is a big dynamic in the mind, he thought, as it is in nature...
