Switch axe us really good against safi. The part break modifier boost plus park break make it easy to get the tail and head twice in one hunt solo. I say solo because you need competent tm8s who target the right part and not the legs. Edit: only problem is killing him because it takes fotever when you solo him.

Stormslinger with Safi Armour strategy is the most efficient, sadly its only available for PS4. Safi Water LBG is the next best thing. BTW, that instant 2nd sapphire star attack, its not a glitch, its kind of like the Extremoth, you know you have to know how to use the Jump gesture, but with Safi he will do that b2b only when he is near death. The easiest way to prevent is to take a Slinger Bomb, safi will drop them only when he is near death. Worst thing is there is no warning, but everyone should be prepared anyway. Whenever he take flight, shoot the slinger bomb and it will flinch him and drop him from the air. The time window is very short so you have to be ready. Safi's slinger ammo drop is also an indication of his life, he will drop Dragon Pods first, Slinger Burst 2nd and Bomb 3rd.

Safi goes to rapid SS attack when his HP is at critical, also it happens mostly when you go for the single run kill, its like a punishment for playing good. Safi's enmity doesn't even come back in that time frame, b2b SS is way too fast.

The double SS drop is most common in runs were the group is doing WAY to good for a fresh run, best option i found for it was the smoke back to camp, safer then trying to avoid the unavoidable SS drop

I'm pretty sure stickies is defeneatly the best strat. Can be lietrally on every part but the tail with around 80 dps. Can easially run partbreaker without sacrificing core skills and can run narga zorah combo no problem

This was a *really* good breakdown of Safi'jiva. Everytime I thought about something in the fight, you then point it out. The only thing I could add is on the second run, save the mounts for the third phase of the fight. Mounting while it's super critical deals a *lot* of damage.

I’d like to add that you can break the back/wings after a mount or a KO. Another thing is that you can try to aim for 20 fire resistance with either food or decorations so you don’t get fire blight after the pin attack.

I've broken the back with 2 mounts with a switch axe. That's if a ranged user isn't aiming for that. Also I've noticed that most people don't try to break jiva's chest even though its worth 200 points. And those that did were used Great Sword.

Generally speaking, yes, do not aim for legs. But truth is, not really, esp on ps4 with stormslinger at level 1. Max dps is valid concern in few situations. 1) driving safi to different position, push it it wine and falling boulder points. 2) Max dps-er able to hold the enmity all time on other level, high dps + health aug stormslinger is best person to do that. 3) When DPS is high, gunners able to break both wings and back in stage 1. The HZV just too bad on other part (eg: chest) before super crit state, gunner will go for legs at level 2 is legit. 4) DPS is extremely important for P1 run. 2 P1 runs can be more rewarding than 2 runs with all parts broken. Anyway player look at P1 run, they usually can analyze it well.

If you have a sns, lance or glaive in your group don't mount in the second phase, the knockdown is alot more useful in phase 3 and they can mount without ledges, also if you are using a heavy weapon remember to wound parts for your light weapon team mates

Good guide man. I've actually been playing quite a lot of lance for Safi the last few days, it's actually surprisingly good. It's pretty damn good at cutting the tail if you have part breaker because of its precision and reach you can stay on it constantly so even if its relatively low damage per poke your sustained DPS is huge, that gets even better with all of its shield mechanics because the tail attacks, ground slams and AoE explosions literally do nothing if you have G5 and G+. On top of that it's an amazing tank because of its guarding potential obviously but also its reach for sustained damage on the head. Finally it's amazing at charging Safi down when it moves too much and can also be used to get one or two super critical mounts if you dont have an IG user with you.

There are sometimes when Safi'Jiiva does the sapphire star attack without rocks for cover...there are. They are just far away (at least, that's what I noticed several times, I had the time to make a run for it and hide...but not the other three who didn't know/see and died...) and people will think there is none and failed a dps check. His sapphire star attack does not destroy all covers (only the close ones) and if there are some remaining, he may not create new ones so it is important to bring the fight near rock covers.

@@Agilku117 Yep. The two times it happened to me, there was no cover at proximity, but a few rocks away (the arena is quite big). And several times I noticed not all rocks were destroyed after a sapphire attack. Basically, if Safi'Jiiva doesn't do his roof attack (the one which creates the rocks) 1 minute after a sapphire attack, it is best to have a look at the whole arena and lure the fight next to the remaining rocks (preferably, the job of the one who has the aggro).

Great guide, however its pretty useless for me due to low player numbers on the PC in 2022. I only started playing Iceborne in late 2021 due to having no time for it back in January 2020 when the Iceborne's PC version came out. And now as late bloomer even during prime time there seems to be zero Safi'jiiva lobbies. It's infuriating being so late on this party and not being able to do the endgame content due to low population, but there's nothing I can do about it. Nevertheless, great guide as always.

The tail cut is no joke, I’ve only seen it come off three times in something like 20~30 hours of grinding the siege. Once after charge blading it for like 15 minutes in ace mode charge blade, I think the second time I did most of the damage before it went. The break rewards at the end screen don’t really give out lashes with tail cuts though? I’ve gotten carves from safi even though it remained on as well which is fun. I’m not really finished with collecting weapons but I’m extremely burnt out on the encounter tbh.

On long shelling it only takes 16 charged shells to break the legs (with partbreaker) so I always go for them since it helps flinch and get points

With some of the attacks kind of tricky to dodge, I feel that wide range SnS really shines in Safi runs. With how easy it is to build the core raw damage skills into a wide range set, you can greatly decrease the chance of failing the quest by sacrificing little to none DPS. The shield also keeps you very safe from one of Safi's hardest to dodge AOE attacks.

I've cracked Safi'jiiva's back with a single longsword mount a few times. Now I'm unsure if dropping rocks in the 1st section counts as part damage to the back or not. But I assume it does. since at times LS is not going to destroy the back with one mount, but at times it will.

i dont think the rocks are considered in part damage alone on the assumption how easily it breaks, everytime i get a mount with the charge blade it breaks. So i can atleast confirm that. Side note on the safi grab, it is an insta kill mechanic, it Will kill you Even at Max hp, also you can flash bomb safi which Will knock it down = letting the grabbed person survive

There is another reason to get the same weapon repetitively. The awakening skill rolling is kinda fixed (regardless your save load). eg: you may not get a specific skill let say zorah mag essence after 100 times upgrade after level 26. Another bet to get specific skill, is dont wast dracolite, try load save on another same weapon, which may get you the skill way faster. I did that for all ammo typed LBG/HBG for ammo up/recoil suppressors, velk divinity for all elemental SnS, zorah essence for some GL.

hmm, I don't think it is a good idea to use bow for wing, bow have limited range which make it difficult to consistently hit the wings unlike sticky unlimited range Bowgun Is easier than you think, I used to play melee only until I follow some guide, just copy some build online and follow some quick tutorial, play few random hunt then you should be able to do Safi easily Sticky bowgun is like the easiest weapon to use nowaday

Farcasters are disabled when it is doing that attack, but right before the star drop it kinda lowers it's body before jumping into the air, and when it does that you can try to use a farcaster and pray you did it fast enough lol

Yeah, I've done safi on PS4 and it gets absurd fast. I did a mock build for an armor set that i just built in game on PC, save for the safi weapon. With the Safi weapon and 0 god decos, it fits Agitator 7, Crit Eye 7, Peak Performance 3, Divine Blessing 3, Attack Boost 5 (7 with mantle), and Focus 3. For side skill its 2 Blast Attack, 2 Recovery Up, 2 Crit Boost, and Fortify. Its a greatsword build thats just meant to hit really damn hard. Currently with Rajang it gives less attack since it needs three Bracy pieces, but the safi weapons just makes this build shine and i love it. I'm hoping there will be weapons that will shake the safi meta up a bit tho, would like to see some strong alternatives.

Yeah but usually melee weapons will be hitting the legs enough by themselves to flinch safi into decayed ground. As a gunner you should just try to break stuff no one else can reach

@@yureenflores8107 Yes, the legs should be the last target for breaking since they are worth the least points. However, most of the time melee weapons will be hitting the legs simply because they are the easiest target. Additionally, it does not require much damage to flinch Safi in the first area and the vines grant you an opening to unload more damage on higher priority targets (activating the trap so you can better hit the tail/head). Not only that, but flinching Safi to certain spots also opens the option of dropping falling rocks for even more openings/damage. From what I've seen it usually takes multiple missions to complete or kill Safi'Jiiva. Each run only grants you 20 minutes and you don't want to repeat breaks on consecutive runs. For example, if you broke the wings on the first run, you will not get more rewards for breaking the wings on the second run and you are only wasting both your time and Safi's health bar. That is why a good strategy would be to break as many important/difficult parts in the first run, and hopefully, all you will need to do in the second run is to break the legs and slay Safi'Jiiva (the act of killing is the most rewarding in terms of points after all). I hope this helps. It is just what I've observed from guides and hunting Safi so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.

I've played with people using only fatalis weapons aside from me. They break almost every part about the 2nd or 3rd try. I'm not gonna say the people you were with were hacking because I don't know the circumstances well enough, but I don't think fatalis weapons could kill any monster in the game without breaking a part tbh. Parts have health, and the more damage a weapon does, the faster the part breaks, so fatalis stuff should be breaking it the fastest out of everything.

I played SnS support for my first few fights since a lot of people don't know the moves right now. But SnS really sucks, I wasn't really able to part break. Right now I'm using a support sticky lbg set. Still able to safe teammates while being really good at wings, head, chest.

You can actually kill safi in one run which is very fun but also very hard. If you're playing with randoms it'll be pretty much impossible so don't try it unless you have friends with meta sets amd are really good. Some of the advice for one running safi goes against the tips in the video so it's very important you don't ruin hunts by aiming for one run while everyone else in your team is trying to two run. First of all you need a tank (any weapon that can reliably attack while being aggroed will do but LBG is the best for this) The other three are dps going after the hind legs. The legs don't give much points but it's the easiest to put in a ton of damage. The point of doing one run is that you aim for the 500 points of killing safi not the parts. The tank needs to stay in front of safi so he doesn't turn much. Don't worry about doing damage keeping aggro is worth it. First and second phase is the same as the video but just go for hind legs instead of the other parts. Whenever safi does the saphire star attack try and flash after he flies but before he starts the attack animation. If you're lucky he'll just straight up skip the attack. It's easier if your weapon can slinger burst. Third phase attack hind legs and flash saphire attack as usual until he reaches super critical state. Now you use the mount (either from a ledge or glider mantle) and green gas to knock him down. Now everyone should go for chest, if four people attack it it should break before he gets back up. If you get more trips the break the head next. You likely won't fully break it but it a very weak point so you can get a lot of damage in. Remember hind legs are bad in casual two run but good in competitive with friends one run. The rewards won't be as good but because it's one run you get twice as much which is above two runs.

I think it takes around 10 stickies on the back (maybe less) to break it. It's usually the thing I break first with the aquashot just to get it out of the way (just aim for the long black spikes near the shoulder). It's easy to aim for whenever she lowers her head to do the laser breath.

Another tip. Safi is extremely weak to Poison so it's highly recommended to carry Poison Bombs. He's poisoned almost instantly, compared to when you're using poison coating or ammo. Two uses of it the first time guarantees getting him poisoned. The second time around, I'm not sure if it takes four or five hits-I just use all five and that's always poisoned him.

It might be because I'm playing with randoms which aren't normally too great with this siege, but me tanking with Lance, constantly stealing aggro allows them to deal much more damage and it's incredibly easy to keep hitting the head non stop with Lance (I once soloed the head, double break 😅) Also Rocksteady makes him a bit of a joke with the lance. You just use his hardest attacks to activate counters and break him out of animations

I play IG and I easily break the back but wings are hard. I aim for a lot of mounts too. IG is good with tail too and ok with head.

Better do single quest runs with bad rewards than 2-quests run with good rewards. After a few tries and some bad experiences, a friend of mine and I are now just going ballistic with RF water Aquashot. I eat for safeguard just in case. I don't need any specific felyne skill anyways. After we break the wings and back in area 1, I tank and my friend tenderizes the tail and wails on it. We get to break some legs along the way but that's all. If the randoms are able to just carry their own weight, it's a single quest run. In 15-20 mins depending on the random's abilities and gear. Rewards will be between 9 and 12 depending on how many legs we broke. You get 3 weps and a small bunch of dracolite, but going for breaking everything requires 2 runs most of the time (especially with randoms) and is not worth the time when I can kill 2 Safis in the time it takes for breaking everything and killing 1 Safi.

IG is good all the way through....Just aim for mount and while Safi is down, you focus on the back. IG is king of mounting.

doing a normal gunlance build for safi seems pointless to me, it moves around so much that your dps looks like it would suffer. I would stick to wide or long

Actually get latent power for stormslinger instead of part breaker. 100% uptime and that damage is enough to compensate for part breaker also speed up the solo siege

I used the safi blast bow at the beginning then once the back and wings where broken i would switch to blast DB for helping cutting the tail, depending on the team comp and the siege stage then you can manage to break both wings, the back, and one horn in the first area

Aerial glaive is irritating because you get knocked down by the wings constantly.

I never realized how hard it was to get level 17 with randoms. This current Safi event going on is the first time I'm fighting him. On something like my 2nd or 3rd run against him.... we broke every part and got level 17 rewards. Since then, I haven't gotten more than level 14. I didnt even realize at the time how rare 17 is with randoms lol.
