@outdoormirrorist3404
@outdoormirrorist3404 9 жыл бұрын
GdarkWoW It really was a terrible comparison, I'll be the first one to admit that. While Williams was always 'in character' to one extent or another, there was something authentic in everything he did. Brand, while spewing all this 'we are one' new age bs, is at the same time so completely out of touch with his own humanity...basically the guy is trying way too hard and is 100% ego (and not even in the good way).
@olbatrossi
@olbatrossi 9 жыл бұрын
Outdoor Mirrorist Agreed. Russell Brand is a well-read but self-serving narcissist who has severe issues with keeping his impulses and ego in check. I think both Robin Williams and Russell Brand understood/understand human psychology and social interactions in a deep and profound way, yet Brand uses that knowledge for his own machiavellian purposes. Brand tries to be a leader simply for the approval and the leeway he gets with women, while Williams clearly was an entertainer and loved being empathetic and "real". He was too in touch with his emotions, which is what eventually drove him to suicide. Brand, on the other hand, has distanced himself from his emotions(which he clearly has an abundance of, he just channels the energies in wrong places), and has created this overtly dramatic character that he showcases in most of his televised appearances. Still, I find Russell Brand infinitely more interesting than Williams. It's somehow bizarre how the man who was so in touch with himself didn't want to live, while the man who lives in self-loathing now shines in the spotlight.
@Ze-Germanzuk
@Ze-Germanzuk 9 жыл бұрын
Olli Ilvonen A lot of people think Brand is an attention whore and a number of other things. But in his recent book I completely get why he is a bit crazy, he did a shit load of coke and heroin for years his dad left him then his mum hated him and he was stuck with his nan. He grew up with everyone kinda hating him even his own family and doing a load of hard drugs can't help your mental state. I am surprised Americans actually like him though, here in England he is hit and miss but over there you guys seem so sensitive and friendly and he comes across quite aggressive and and physical whilst keeping a Joker like smile.

Brand goes from the hormonal nature of men (wanting to have sex with palmer and extras) to the lure and inaccessibility of beauty/perfection (falling in love with palmer) to the farcical nature of hypnotism when in the midst of genuine emotion (unable to be hypnotized out of his love for palmer) to the harsh and disappointing realities of commitment/relationships (when he gets palmer, reality settles in and the dream/perfection/beauty eventually fades). Then he ends existentially; providing the two most common possible answers for why this all occurred: evolution or god. Its not what he intended, and it may sound like I'm over-analyzing, but I think that he's such a naturally gifted speaker and entertainer that I'm not sure he even realized how philosophical and deep his story became. It was all for laughs, yes, but he still spoke in a more philosophical manner than initially intended.

@@keithhinchcliffe5629 not necessarily. I'm quite well read,but I'm hardly as articulate as Russell Brand. Some people just have natural linguistic abilities. There's 5 main types of intelligence people tend to fall under: Linguistic (which clearly Russell is a prime example of), Interpersonal (The ability to read and relate to others), Intropersonal (Those better with introspection and self-control), Musical (Your Mozarts and Beethovans), and Math (Your scientists and Engineers) So with that in mind...you can observe all the paintings in the world, it doesn't make you an artist. 😉 There is a wee bit of natural talent that goes with that. That being said, I do agree with you that reading more or even simply listening to audible books can certainly assist in broadening one's vocabulary. Absolutely. 🙂

I just watched Russell Brand on The Graham Norton Show and then saw this clip. Graham, as the host got the ball rolling and then graciously allowed Russell to tell a few really good stories, without constant interruption. Russell is trying to tell a story on Conan and had to comment to Conan that he was interrupting his story with constant interjections, and in stead of backing off and letting Russell continue, Conan insults him and calls him crazy. Wow!!! PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.
