Damn near everything the Russell's touch is gold. Even their "secret" stuff like W.B. Saffell are truly amazing. Great review, Jason! Are you going to try the new Master's Keep 10 year they just announced? We'd love to get one for our channel, but we're not holding our breath 😅

I tried a pour at Wild Turkey and asked… did they put Maple Syrup in here mixed. No, so I got a bottle. We left and heard Mr Russell came and was signing bottles so we came on back and said hello, and he signed a few bottles. He told us the secret to a happy life was respecting your wife, she was also signing bottles. Great Day.

I always have a couple of these on my shelf. But I have Rare Breed, Pikesville & 101 too. 191 us strictly a mixer for me, not that you couldn't drink it neat but I don't. Pikesville can go either way. Nice neat but cheap enough I don't mind making a Sazerac with it. Russell's and Rare Breed are both in the excellent value every day sippers category.

Glad you got to this one. Like you, I'm a Turkey fan, and enjoy this as well as Rare Breed rye. As you said, it's a matter of preference between different people, or different occasions for the same person. I also really like Pikesville, which is said to emulate Maryland rye (more rye, less corn), but which has a mash bill almost identical to Kentucky rye (minimum required rye, high corn). Chalk up the different taste to yeast, barrel char, aging, and all the other distiller idiosyncrasies.

I still haven't come across any Russells reserve single barrel ryes yet here in Australia but I can find heaps of different master's keep😅.cheers all .keep up the good work mate🥃🙏

Great review Jason! Thank you! I was sipping on a Nashville Barrel Rye that’s so delicious. Went into one of the liquor stores in Indianapolis and they had a bottle of the Nashville Rye for $20. What a find. It was their last bottle so they clearances it out! Anyways! Great review!

I really enjoy this bottle. I'm surprised it isn't more popular. Slightly minty with some stone fruit and vanilla (at least my bottle is, an old label).

all rye's in this vid r good. pikeville, wild turkey rye, i have tried and enjoyed. i'll keep on the lookout for wildness trail. current crushes sagamore double oaked and daniel's barrel proof rye!

Nice review! I really like the Rare Breed Rye, fresh citrus, vanilla caramel! RR 6yr is really light and the single barrel is more viscous, oak, caramel, goodness! I think it’s close to the Pikesville rye which is really nice. I get the RR for 62.00 and the Pikesville for 48.00 both are great IMO! Cheers!

I agree about the citrus. WT101 rye is alllllll orange and I love it! I've only had the Russell's 6 year rye, haven't had a single barrel yet I'll have to give em a try! You da man Jason C!

Not so much a rye guy but I do have a few. I like the Wilderness Trail Rye. I have blinded against the Knob Creek 7 year several times and it comes out on top every time. Also I like the 13th Colony Rye. It's about 44 dollars here in the 13th colony.

I like WT products, but this offering is $92 at Total Wine here in Phoenix. I just can't pull the trigger. Instead I've been enjoying the Dad's Hat bib & Sagamore 8.

The Pikesville is $36 and $40 after taxes in my area, tbankful for that because I really enjoy Pikesville as a regular sipper, you didn't mention the Cherry/Red Licorice notes the Pikesville has on the nose and palate which I absolutely enjoy. Haven't had the Russells rye yet but you've sparked some interest comparing it to Pikesville one of my top rye picks.

Appreciate the comparison, instead just one bottle notes. For what you get, I really prefer the Russel’s rye. It’s close, it in some batches I find the Rare Breed to a bit rough on the finish..perhaps a bit on an ethanol note

This has been beckoning me from my grocery store's shelf for the past few months... but there are too many Bourbons out there that command my attention more than Rye. Once my Pikesville is killed, maybe I'll grab this as my "complimentary" Rye on-hand. I've had the Rare Breed and, as I just mentioned, Pikesville. I dug/dig both of them. Sounds like the Russell's deserves a buy. Thanks!

I preferer Old Forester 100 rye or, Jack Daniels BiB rye. I also have a local store pick of Jack Daniels single barrel rye that is currently my favorite bottle. So much so that I went back and bought two more! I've come to know that If I'm going to enjoy a rye it needs to be more committed than 51% rye. Old forester is 65% and JD is 70% Man are they good!!!

I’ve only had the SB Rye a time or two. Always wondered why those didn’t get pushed as store picks like the normal RRSB. Rare Breed Rye is such a good bottle. Even better than regular RB IMO.

Haven’t tried any Russell’s ryes. I like 101 rye. Their single Barrel pricing is a bit heavy though. I’ll get around to it at some point

I had a pour of this about a month ago, and I could not shake off this really strong aspartame, fake sugar note I kept getting on the finish. Granted it’s the old style bottle. Maybe the newer ones are better. But I haven’t gone back to it since

I actually "stole" this bottle. The price tag was the Russell's 6 year. Not the single barrel price. So I paid $30 for it. I thought it was just OK... Nothing that blows my socks off. I perfer JD SB BP rye & Pikesville
