Russia has launched an ICBM just hours ago form the Kasputin Yar launching site in Astrakhan, Southern Russia. The Launch was seen as far away as northern Iran and Iraq, and western countries have been very concerned about the message this missile sends with it's test launch. Meanwhile US warships are rushing into position around the Middle East in preparation for the Full Scale attack still excepted by Iran within the next few days. a massive strike was launched by Hezbollah on Northern Israel, Israeli air defense intercepted all rockets.

Russia should use the flood as an exit ramp to end the War with Ukraine. Saving face to choose to handle the domestic crisis with their Russian citizens - it's more important to Russia than denatizifying Ukraine. And yes, Putin can say all that with a straight face. He's had a lot of practice.

@RichardRodi526 you are correct. Looks like I was thinking IRBMs intermediate-Range ballistic missles. (3000-5000km range) but still effective against russia if they ever wanted to escilate. Google says uk had the trident 2 icbm (submarine based platform), but I guess they may have decommissioned it with the non-proliferation agreements of the past? Or they still have them and were just going off land launched systems. They do still have nukes, though, and more means of delivering them than just icbms. Either way my point is alot of nations have nuclear weapons and different means of delivery but it means nothing unless someone wants to do something very silly.

@RichardRodi526
@RichardRodi526 Ай бұрын
I don't disagree with you on the complacency thought (Ukraine needs a lot more high end air defense systems) but the problem is much different between Israel and Ukraine. Israel is only 135 km wide, probably less than that at the border of Lebanon. Iron Dome is mostly a much shorter range system than what would work in Ukraine or what Ukraine needs. It is not an anti-ballistic missile system also (design primarily for short range rocket and mortar/artillery shell coverage). Israel has augmented the Iron Done system with Arrow 3 Missiles for taking out Ballistic Missiles. The main missile used by Iron Dome cost around $100K versus like $4M for one patriot missile. Iron Dome has around 150 square km coverage (12.25 km x 12.25 km). The land border between Ukraine and russia is almost 2000 km long (not counting the Belarus border where russian missiles/drones often fly over). So Israel in ways doesn't need as many systems (but a lot of re-loads of cheaper to use missiles for shorter ranges), whereas for better coverage, Ukraine would need a lot more systems with much wider coverage similar to Patriot or SAMP/T but the missiles for those systems cost a lot more. The Iron Dome system also calculates the trajectory of dumb rockets/shells and won't attack them if they would fall in un-populated areas. Ukraine is dealing with a much more advanced attack against them which requires more sophisticated and much wider coverage. There are not as many solutions to Ukraine's defense problem. russia is intentionally flying their shahed drones and cruise missiles in circuitous patterns to try and find the air defense systems and then send missiles at those locations.

@@geronimo5537 I am a fool? Why absolutely I’m crestfallen! How absurd it is that I presume the west should be marching on Kyiv with lawyers, guns and money! Didn’t see the differences between Ukraine’s air defence needs and capabilities and Israel’s. For the most part, however, the west has maintained an air defence grid which spans the northern hemisphere, and Russia’s pot shots at Ukraine are a provocation while Ukraine suffers immeasurably. Surely the west is capable of much better!

@@willyjimmy8881 Yes it does seem so. Ukraine was a manufacturing centre for Cold War materiel, though. The irony of this conflict has to be that Russians are being massacred by weapons of their own creation, and shoulder-fired kit from the west. The west can do so much better. The nightly live steam You yammer on too much! We don't need to know every make and model or how many nuts and bolts it has. btw You need to start at 9:45 because screw the 15 min wait. 10:00 is late enough as it is.

That's a trip. You can clearly see all the incoming missiles, but the iron dome missiles don't seem to have any flame. I don't see them....

No Russia wasn't trying to show the world that they have an ICBM that works. They were trying to prove it to themselves, because they don't know if they will work. The worst part is they don't know if they will even go where they want it too.

You are talking about a major power that is a global arms dealer. That specializes in selling such ordnance. No comparison to the US in sheer volume. But still has done so for decades. Though with modern laser defense systems. Much of these slow lumbering systems wouldnt achieve much. They would need to be used in mass volume.

Quick google search found a Reuter article from Dec. 2022 saying that russia planned on doing twice as many ICBM test launches in 2023 (8) than they did in 2022 (4). So they probably do this quite frequently on an annual basis.

What's the big deal about the icbm test? All countries that have them have been testing them for 3/4 of a century. What's with all the fuss and drama? It's sabre rattling, nothing more.

I'm curious...do we know if any civilians were injured from falling debris? There must be a lot from a strike like this. Now, before anyone attempts to apply some devious purpose to my question, I really am just curious, so PLEASE don't read more into my question than what's really there. Thanks Enforcer!
