This is all too generalized and based on a system where one country dominates others in it's region. Truth is subjective. Most things happen for many reasons. On the other hand negotiations being strong armed by a bigger party like Moscow to take control of territory from it neighbors and enforcing its own singular government dictates without care from other interests in its own country is not a model that china, ukraine, or Eastern european countries have found lets them have a voice at all. When they suggest these generalized ideas with no real specifics it's obviously never going to work. The truth requires being very specific and reducing the strong-arm negotaitions of countries like Iran who take hostages to try and get countries to bow to them rather than negotiation. Russia was suppose to be a more active voice on trade, development, and treaties, but strong-armed their way out of negotiations with the world not liking their over-aggressive tactics. NATO has been rebuilt ever since Russia tore up its own consitution to put Putin in full power for 24 years. The sign that they don't have interests of smaller parties in their scope and only care about the largest ones. The color revolutions rejected this idea of state driven rights over individual ones. If Putin wasn't president for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th terms and they kept a stronger president like Dmitry Medvedev who clearly was bringing Russia back to it's former glory. There would have been no need for NATO.

Why Ukraine didn't accept to stay neutral - after the collaps of the Soviet Union??? After the collapse of the Sovier Union in 1989, Ukraine was allowed to keep all the teritories aquired as a part of Soviet Union, (teritories that were taken from the Russia, Romania, Hungary & Poland by Stalin). Austria, Switzerland are neutral countries in Europe, they aren't members of the European Union and their economic & political stability are well known. What Ukraine had, before this conflict started in 2014 was the fact that its territory was blessed by natural resources & economic potential much greater than Switzerland & Austria combined. What happens nowadays in Ukraine is beyond tragic for its citizens, their cities, its economy. It will take decades to pass to rebuild parts of all the destruction given the fact that the world's economies face financial collaps, because of financial burden of their deficits.

This means that achieving prosperity after getting rid of a colonial oppression can be achieved within 30 years or so, therefore, if after 60, 90 or more years a country still hasn’t made much progress towards prosperity, then probably it’s time to stop blaming the outside and start looking for the reasons on the inside. How exactly is the West still “plundering” the 3rd world countries if all they do, out of colonial guilt, is send them billions after billions of International Aid money?

Russians and Ukrainians are Slavic peoples. Fraternal people. All of this is because of bad decisions made by the US and others before the end of WWII, driven by greed and the lust for power.
