At the 23:00 min mark when Dr McGlynn is talking about "Ivan Mazepa's" Ukraine and she could remember who the other guy was, I think she might have meant "Bogdan Khmelnitsky". Anyway I am glad to have stumbled upon this channel by sheer accident. The "Algorithm" never feeds me any of this kind of chan, just all the popular one's I already know about and don't need to be fed those!

‘King’s college indirectly invests £2.2 million in arms and defence and has increased its shares in the industry in recent years, despite its reputation for being Cambridge’s ‘progressive’ college, Varsity can reveal. Freedom of information requests showed the College’s £349m of assets to include shares in over fifty arms companies, held mostly via investments in a range of index tracker funds. As of March 2023, the college indirectly invested over £2,206,000 in companies like Lockheed Martin, Korea Aerospace, and BAE Systems.’

Russia / Nazi Germany, - Resonates, - or parallels ? Resonates implies a high degree of subjectivity which is not really appropriate, there are factual elements which are not a matter of opinion.

That was a great podcast; thank you. The only thing that doesn't resonate with me is the idea that the situation around the war and the observed state of affairs in Russian society may occur in every country. I disagree, especially given Russia's historical context. The saying goes, "In Russia, things could change rapidly in a span of a few years but actually remain the same throughout centuries." The issue lies not with the Russian nation but in its culture and civilizational background. As a person from Kazakhstan, my sentiments toward Russia align with those of Ukrainians or Baltic states. We're weary of Russia and the recurring turmoil it generates. Without real denazification and a collapse akin to Germany's, this cycle will likely repeat in the future.

Jade has certainly studied her subject. If Stalin had stood against Hitler in 1939 instead of collaborating with him there may have been a very different outcome to the war and less casualties in Russia. Russia may have invaded Crimea in 2014 but we are aware that this did not include the water supply. Russia was able to establish naval strength in the Black Sea. Both Russia and Ukraine were not in the frame of mind to have diplomatic negotiations which could have benefitted the population of both countries. A little give,a little take and calmness on both sides. They all shout at each other. Boundaries of behaviour, it's just give me or I will become furious. Russia does treat their own citizens in a tough way. In the east the lack of care medically and lack of transport, schools and care is so transparent.Russian people accept the corruption involved with daily life as normality. This comes from the top to the bottom. Sheer greed . The riches of Russia were seized by the few who squander it on ostentatious lifestyles.Ogligarchs. The vouchers given to factory workers in an attempt to give them something were sold because they needed food.They hadn't been paid. Investors were like sharks circling in the water. The government in collaboration with Ogligarchs became all powerful and Putin had the political power to put himself at the top of the pile. He had the chance to put Russia in a great place with a fairer division of wealth but Moscow is the jewel in the crown. A show city. Criminal Russian religion teachers hate and not love . The top dog benefits from the allowances in tobacco and cigarettes afforded to the church. Allowing an individual to be in power for years and years is dangerous. I wonder if Russian people will take matters into their own hands and take power. Start the country on a new footing and gradually spread the power and wealth of the country. Putin is so calm and hypnotic. He exudes confidence and is very convincing. I wonder how well informed he is. Russian culture is lovely in some things . The writers, music, dancers and art are beautiful. Designs can be fabulous. It's a shame Russia has become an enemy. The world would be a richer place if peace existed amongst us all. Not love maybe but at least understanding and acceptance of differences.

Малороссы not малороссияне - little Russians - the inhabitants of Little (original) Russia. That’s a calque from Greek and it meant the original territory of Rus’ before it had expanded further north and east to form Great (territorially bigger) Russia). It’s got nothing to do with Ukrainians being inferior to Russians. Jade is too clever not know that, but for some reason prefers to gloss it over.

Putin considers the Ukrainians inferior Why has he and his female accomplice been kidnapping and deporting tens of thousands of Ukrainian children to Russia for Russification if he values Ukraine and Ukrainians. He doesn't. Hitler did the same thing. He despised the Polish people and kidnapped and deported thousands of Polish children to Germany for Germanisation. In at least two regards Hitler = Putin :- Illegally invading a neighbouring country, and kidnapping and deporting children to their countries for, in Hitler's case 'Germanisation' and in Putin's case 'Russification'.

That's not the current understanding of Russians on Ukraine or the Kievan Rus, is it? They claim that it's Moscow that's the heartland of the culture, and deny Ukraine's and Belarus's claim to that heritage. In their minds, the only legitimate state that arises from there is Russia, and Ukraine's and Belarus's role in it is just to be part of Russia.
@ivangoncharov2563

@@henriikkak2091 , if you mean the official line, then Kiev is considered the spiritual center and Moscow the political one of the Russian civilization. All three nations can claim legitimacy to Kievan Rus’. It’s never been denied to either Ukrainians or Belarusians. Quite the contrary, a lot of Ukrainians now and some Belarusian ultranationalists deny Russians any legitimacy to Kievan Rus’ - an ideology designed by the Poles to counter the Russian Empire’s influence in Eastern Europe. Now, the most violent conflicts essentially have three aspects - ethnic, linguistic and religious ones. For centuries, for the majority of Ukrainians (except for the western part of Ukraine) none of these aspects played any role in their relations with Russians. Now that Ukraine wants to be a part of the West you have all three of them. I don’t know whose fault it is exactly as it has to be more studied, I’m just saying that it’s a fact now.

Hmm, to have a successful career, to get published? As the discontent slowly grows among the Western people, and they start digging into social networks for alternate information sources, other than mainstream media, such “scientific-looking” blogs and writings like hers grow in demand. Unpleasant truths about the results of Western politics more and more often, so the people in power need something respectably looking to counter them. Naturally, there are enough “scientists” and “writers” and “journalists” who are happy to satisfy this demand - and get paid. It was particularly hilarious to listen her to talk about propaganda while using EXACTLY the approach typical propagandist approach of combining some solid truths with half-truths and the so-called “fried facts” (its when you say something that is essentially correct - but delivered in a way that the meaning is utterly twisted) - with a number of plain lies (I counted quite a number, starting with “a half of Ukraine belonging to Poland in 1939”). Nevertheless, I admire her ability to deliver her narrative in such a smooth, well-polished manner; it may well work on anyone too lazy/complacent to go make just a slight effort and go fact-checking. I just hope the need for critical thinking will prevail over the habit of listening to comforting b*sh!t.
