I used to wrestle a kid in high school that would hit that uchi mada and would ankle pick me as my other leg was in the air or would fake the ankle pick and reshoot to the same leg he hit the uchi mada on and he would take me down multiple times with it everyday. He ended up being a 3 time state champ

This was seriously helpful. Came to KZbin looking for options on how to deal with posting on the face during 2:1. This breakdown (with the evidence) shows uchi mata as a really good option - thanks for it!

Growing up as a wrestler I always kinda dismissed Judo, but over the years I have come to really appreciate some of the technique it brings to the takedown game, especially the leg-kicks and sweeps. PS great content.

0:06 very useful when they post on the head
@pauldarling3302 жыл бұрын
Head post is one of the best defenses against the russian. Something to work with. Also, if you drop your head down you can come up into their chest and they will normally transition into the headlock, where you show the O'Malley hip drop from Russian/headlock.
@earnyourgold Жыл бұрын
Yeah. My goal with a position is to have a solution for every reaction my opponent could have. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but I love the Russian. I have a few more videos coming out on it
@pauldarling330 Жыл бұрын
@@earnyourgold The Uchi Mata is also a counter in the Russian when the guy tries to step behind you. Something to analyze is Seth Gross got DESTROYED using the Russian at worlds. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ7KYqmnf6usfas

Terao and Demas were the only ones in these examples who committed with their hands as well as their feet/hips. Uchi-mata needs commitment forward for the rotation and most of the weaker outcomes in this video were missing that… You can get someone airborne with your hips but you need to finish with your hands…my 2 cents and great video.
@earnyourgold Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. It actually makes sense because they're the two in the video with an actual Judo background (Tear more than Demas, but Demas is still really well-versed in Judo). Michael O'Malley is just really good with Russian ties and so is Seth Gross

Judo in wrestling is great man. It's a different feel and most wrestlers don't know how to defend it

To me this was never a Judo concept. It was Just wrestling. Been doing this move since the 70's in wrestling. I took judo later in life. You do know that their are throws in wrestling.

@@earnyourgoldin the beginning. Where he reaches around from the tie. You said it doesn’t work but I feel like it would if your angle is good. Personally I prefer the Uchi Mata as I am more comfortable with it coming from a jiujitsu background.

I noticed the opponents were pretty square in their stance when they got hit with the uchi mata. Do you think the foot position of your opponent matters much?
@earnyourgold Жыл бұрын
I think it definitely helps if the leg on the same side of the Russian is close (I'm assuming). If that leg is far back though, I've seen the Tear brothers do a cross pick with their feet and I've seen Jack Maida from American University do a foot stomp
@atilax6452 Жыл бұрын
I have seen guys mistakenly "mule-kick" opponents right in the ballz, trying to do that move. Lol! Seemed to b guys with shorter legs. Maybe not lining it up right or something.
