hi! Katya, I like your videos very much, I have been looking all over for videos that would help me to learn russian, you make it easy and fun at the same time, I would just suggest maybe you can put the way you pronounce phrases, because when i see all of the russian letters even though you pronounce it I kinda get lost there a bit. Thank you for your help and keep up the great work!!

never even thought that the word "est'" could be hard for learning! it's just the begining! Later you will have to face the word "go" which can be a hundred times more difficult ("idti" "uyti" "poyti" "zayti" means go but in different forms) that would be really fun!:) Это вам не хухры-мухры!

Thanks, very useful. You mention that the pronunciation of 'есть' is 'similar' when it means 'to have' or 'to eat'. However, I don't hear any difference. Is the pronounciation identical, or am I missing a subtle difference because my ears are not trained to Russian enough yet? хлеб sounds very unappetising by the way.

Yes, it is identical, word 'есть' just has several meanings, it can also mean 'there is', like in 'Есть такая страна' = 'There is such country'

2 things: 1st: I like your necklace. 2nd: Why the last one it's negative in Russian, but it's affirmative in English?
@georgegeller1902
@georgegeller1902 8 жыл бұрын
In English, the meaning of "big deal" depends on ones tone of voice. Years ago, it was almost always used in the negative. At present, it's not used so much, and about half the time the meaning is positive. If the two words, "Big deal." make up the whole sentence, the speaker is almost certainly using it in the negative sense. He's saying something is trivial.

One of them is a 3rd person singular form of the verb "быть" (to be). It has the same origin as the English "is", German "ist", Spanish "es" etc. In modern Russian it is used after any personal adjectives, though it is very rarely used as a linking verb. The other one is the verb "to eat".
