@@DanielBrongers basically a civil war that stemmed from a diffrent civil war inside the country from 2004-2007, there was a cease fire from 2007 til 2012 and the anti-balaka aka Selekas, the opposition of the government, had other religious beliefs and way of life, pretty much a Sudan and Rwanda situation. Some European countries like France, Portugal, Netherlands etc. Were also involved for a bit but since 2020 Russia and Rwanda aid the CAR government against the anti-balaka rebels. Russia and those European countries of course are there for their own interest because the CAR main recourse are diamonds wich they have plenty amount. They deployed a few mercenaries and goods plus military vehicles. So far they have massacred civilians and supporters of the rebels, notably the Aïgbado massacre this year, and some that haven't been discovered yet since its also a bit foggy with information. The situation is overall a shitshow, there were 3 sides that fought each other, anti-balakas, anti-balakas against ex-Selekas and the government. About 1.1 million people have fled the country so far, of an population with only 5 million people but since the Russian intervened the CAR government has been successful so far to strike the rebels and probably, mostly, definitely killing their own civilians just like in Sudan or Rwanda. I guess in this case, it's the fault of the rebels since they broke the peace agreement, it's pretty much a religious and ethnic cleansing underneath all of that. It's not a large scale conflict like Ukraine at the moment, but the recorded massacres of the Russian mercenaries have definitely not been unnoticed, at least some. Who knowes how much they have committed these since they advanced into the east of the country and have taken some key cities. But yeah, it's not pretty, and nobody talks about it since (surprise) the US haven't been involved in it that much, only advising the tourist to get the hell outta there after tensions raised in 2012. The entire whataboutism honestly gets annoying because yeah the US has done some shady shit as well as NATO, but Russia is in no way better just because they aren't involved in many diffrent conflicts (Syria, Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan/Belarus protest suppression, CAR, etc.) Sorry if it's to much but definitely look that topic up, it's pretty much a down scaled Rwanda/Sudan situation
